I think he carries a live performance fantastic, but his studio albums show he doesn't have people his equal and know it around him. To say it's time to show of the sticks, or now for me to shine on the bass. Or time to get in a sax player. This guy is so good he has to cover over everything and no one can say fuck you, this is where I'm going. He has to carry the whole thing by himself. That's more than anyone should have to do.
