  • When it comes to Pull-Ups and Chin-Ups, are you as strong as other men? Put yourself to the test to find out how strong you are on a body weight to strength fitness test.
As a man, how many pull-ups and chin-ups should you be able to do?
Well according to the research, the average man under the age of 40 should be able to complete at least 8 pull-ups and 9 chin-ups. But let’s break it down a little more because your age does affect these numbers as well.
Here is a chart with the different age categories and your ranking by the number of pull-up reps you can complete:
And here is a chart with the different age categories and your ranking by the number of chin-up reps you can complete:
So in a strength to bodyweight ratio,
Beginners are considered stronger than 5% of men
Novices are considered stronger than 20% of men.
Intermediates are stronger than 50% of men.
Advanced are considered stronger than 80% of men.
And elites are considered stronger than 95% of men.
When it came to pull-ups, I was able to get to 13 before my shoulder started hurting at which point I tapped out.
Next I took a break, then moved on to the chin-ups portion of this challenge.
When it came to chin-ups I fared slightly better, and was able to complete 17 reps.
So now it’s your turn. Let me know how many you were able to do for both pull-ups and chin-ups along with your age and drop your results in the comments below. I look forward to seeing how you fared. Best of luck fellas!

AGE 35 (5'9, 210 lbs). 15 pull ups, 17 chin ups. I dont think that the average man can do 8 pull ups. Because of the rate of obesity, I think its more like 1 pull up - at least in the US. Every time I go to the gym I see men using the assist up machines rather than the pull up stations.

I'm 40. I do 3-4 sets of 25 reps every other day. I mix between pull ups/chinups/ and hammer grip chin ups. I also do sets of 40 push ups.

@@SimpleManChannel Thanks I definitely took some cues from watching you on the channel. I also walk 7 miles a day under 14 minute miles. I'm gonna do the one day step challenge you did someday soon!

At 54 years old I got 30 reps in 1 set and 5 reps with 50kg extra weight hanging at a bodyweight of 67kg, now 59 years old didn't train much the last 5 years due to my wife getting brain cancer and dying and a spell in a South East Asian jail (now been deported ha!) Trying to get it back, weighted backpack run this morning morning followed by hanging on a roof edge to do pullups got 21 reps and 3 reps with 25kg extra in backpack plus I'm now a flabby 73kg.

I’m 26 years old, 170 pounds and can do 7 pull ups and 10 chin ups. I feel weak.

I call it BS. Most average guys can't do ONE pullup. Most guys over 30 are overweight and don't exercise. I also remember when I was in highschool. I was doing 12 pullups and I was the only one who did more than 10. Half of guys couldn't do more than one.

I'm 12 but i'd like to put my numbers anyway😅
11 or 12 chin-ups, and 7 or 8 pull ups. Not sure if these are my actual max reps because my muscles are pretty sore from the 100 chin ups for 30 days challenge.

When I was in my 20s I was 70kg did about 15 pull ups 18 chin ups, at 37 now I'm like 6 pull ups and 8 chin ups but I'm nearly 90kgs pretty solid, workout constantly. Not a.bodybuilder by any means

I'm surprised the pull-up number is higher than the chin-up number. I thought the general consensus was that chin-ups were easier. Anyway, I have no idea what my max is because I don't want to mess up my elbows, but three times a week I do 9 pull-ups and 10 pull-ups (as the last set in which I do more than the previous ones). I don't know how many more I could do and I'm not prepared to risk injury to find out. [edit: I'll be 67 in a month]
