I hope someone can help me.. i brought a st about 2 weeks ago and the 2nd tab is welded to the back unit would I be able to buy a new back unit or will I have to buy whole new headlight?
Only things I would add to this are (1) Buy new front plastic clips because those crappy plastic screws will not come out and you'll get annoyed and will likely scratch something trying - I put a flat Stanley blade under it and sliced it off. Put a new one on (preferably not the Ford one, use a push clip type) and (2) The square protrusion on the bulb holder goes under the spring clip, even though it looks like it should fit in the square recess the other side. Saves you getting frustrated trying the impossible.
I'm having such a hard time replacing the head lamp unit on my facelift mk7. The light won't sit flush. I've made sure the bit at the front that the plastic screw goes into is underneath where it should be and screwed the other 2 screws in. But I'm then left with a gap between the light and the bumper. Any ideas? :(
nikkilevel27 yes, take the headlight out again and realign it. There are clear plastic bumps in the headlamp casing that pulls the unit tight against the bumper. I start with putting the front tab in position as you said you did, then the tabs that pull it into the bumper and then finally get the top in.
thanks! yes i'm having a nightmare with it at the moment....windy last week remember? yeah, it caught my door and the swing check strap snapped in 2 driver side...dunno whether to take it back under warranty or if its put my door out of align or what. I want a good intense white bulb or HiD kit but which one is best I'm not sure sure as long as its better than the standard yellowy colour. and this video was a decent watch tbh because I've tried to take out the light unit once just to sorta figure out what was going on and that 'clicking sound' that you said don't worry about, im sure theres like a white clip underneath the unit holding it in which im sure i snapped as i took it out because when i put it back in, it doesn't sit right, only slightly but its noticeable to me lol Im not very good with cars can you tell.
Ohh man sounds like a bad time, sorry to hear it. Unfortunately I don't think that will be covered under the warranty but definitely worth trying to get it sorted, you never know always best to ask the dealer. Personally i prefer the HID kits as they are more powerful and really light the roads up at night. Plus they aren't yellow. You can get "super white" bulbs but I've tried them and they aren't as good as HID's. A lot of people use a set of bulbs made by a company called Osram and they name them Nightbreakers. I've heard really good reviews but never tried them myself. When you take the headlight out, on the bottom there should be a little white bit thatvsticks out with a cylinder on the end. That clicks into a holder directly below, that's what the clicking is. You should be able to click it back in and get good panel gaps. Thanks for the kind words. i know, its just annoying. ok thanks ill give it a try and I'll join or check out the forums thanks :) last thing dont suppose you have the link to the HiD kit youve got?
sam westerman , unfortunately i don't have a link as i used to get all my lighting stuff off a trader on the forum but he is selling up so I'm not sure what stock he has left. this is his business Facebook page so you could try messaging him to see if he has any kits left? facebook.com/PWPerformance-1468135886848737/
