When I watch how-to, I look for competence and brevity. Then I look to learn something, like I didn't know how well a handheld band saw worked on heavy steel.
Tyler, Really Talented, to have such skills in welding, putting the hay bale spear together, spacing, angle in which to carry, unload, how to strengthen to make sure everything works as it should, planning not only in building, but how to correct it if needed after using it. Thank you really appreciate and enjoy your videos.Continued success.
Tyler, it’s incredible that your “eyeball” measurements are probably far superior than my physical measurements! Your fabrication skills are first class! That bale spear is functional and meets the eye test for a nice looking attachment! Well done!
Wow I remember FTRS excitement over 10 subs. Well done. Don't worry about what you consider to be repetitive content it's always a little different and sometimes we enjoy being done again. I have one request. Please lasso another cow that was spectacular
Thank you for this video. I am an associate in a high school for the AG Mechanics shop. Learning welding online is not fun, but watching someone weld in a real life situation is awesome. ☺️
Thank you Alicia I appreciate that! You know I kind of wish I had been an Ag/shop teacher as my “real” job. Metal shop was my life when I was a senior and when I started to realize I could afford to make the things I couldn’t afford to buy it was a game changer! Now I prefer to just make my own stuff when it’s possible. The pride I feel from that is just as satisfying as it was in high school!
Oh boy, i like that step-up....nicely engineered forks...great lengths and hay stability. That turned out better than i imagined....you can bend or replace spears easily. THAT's super heavy duty....those short spears will never break or bend much...weld reinforcements galore.
Tyler. I love the content. I think fabrication is how I originally landed on the channel. I also love farm content and your channel is a perfect combination of both. Keep it coming. I am a high school teacher. I teach engineering and shop. I hope you don’t mind but I used this video in my Non traditional Instruction for a class this week! We used it to discuss the design process we are learning in class. Knowing my students, I think it will get you a few more subscribers out of it too!
Thank you Adam! I am glad you used this in your class, I wish I could have heard the discussion. Metal shop was by far my favorite class and if I was able to inspire some of your students then that’s the coolest thing I’ve heard in awhile!
I think you've done an awesome job Tyler you have all the equipment in your shop that you need to cut and well with and watching you for the last year has been just awesome I hope you and your wife have a blessed week and hope to see you soon on another video God bless south mississippi girl loves you
Nice job with the prep! A lot of people don't do enough prep, and that's where the cracks come in to play down the road. Bummer about the hood damage.. That's totally something I would have done too. Lol! It looks great bud! You're going to love the world of round bale feeding
Thanks Chris! Yeah awhile back I decided any weld I need to be really strong gets a bevel and the mill scale ground off. I think it makes a big difference and it gives me piece of mind! It comes as no surprise that a fellow fabricator like you caught those details!
Great job. You should be ok stacking three high, if the bale is tilted back slightly just rest it on the bales and gently lower the loader as you reverse out. The bale will settle back into place. Keep your video's coming, cheers. 😃
You did a really nice job. Job well done. I knew from the beginning that this was going to be a good fabrication video. Keep us posted on the repairs to the tractor. Will be interesting to see your updates.
Nice job!!! I built a hay spear for the front of my John Deere 3020 and have used it for a dozen years. It’s not as nice as yours but gets the job done. I’m sure yours will last for years too.
I have a similar idea on the front of my tractor my max hight is 10'6" and i can just barely stack 3 high with 5' bales. If i ever get a round baler i would be making 4' round. So you got the right idea there boss. Keep up the amazing work
Even with the spear not being level with the loader raised all the way you should be able to back out of a bale by slowly lowering the loader arms as you back up. If you ever build another one using two spears in the lower frame 30" apart will let you use them as pallet forks for moving other materials.
Very nice build Tyler! I would argue the stick and mig are equally strong on thick and thin metal, just different techniques. Shoot me a message if you get into anything on the hydraulics.
Great job on the spear! Just a thought if it becomes an issue; make a pivoting frame that has a second cylinder so that when the second short cylinder is extended you are at same spot as now. When loader is at max height you retract cylinder for added tilt back. You could use an electric diverter valve if you only have the one scv. It wouldn’t be cheap to do, so only something to look at if you simply can’t make your current design work. I think you’re fine though if you stick to 4’ bales.
This is some really nice fabrication, but have you ever thought about using a skid steer quick attach adapter and adjusting it to fit on your front end loader so that you can use all the new style implements and you won't have to always be customizing everything to fit your tractor? just a suggestion, I have an old ford tractor and I did this and I'm glad I did because it is way easier to swap attachments on and off and the skid steer attachments are easy to come by nowadays.
My two cents on the bail stabilizers. The longer they are the more they will bend. I had to make mine no longer than 1 foot. Another thing as you pierce the bale with your big bail spike the higher the bail spike is above the center of gravity the less the bail will turn on you which is what will cause the stabilizers to bend.
Yes a few people have said I probably made them too long and maybe not sharp enough. I’m thinking I’ll cut them back and sharpen them up prior to use. I appreciate the input! This is all new to me
Nice job. The bottom spikes don't need to be quite that long, and you probably should sharpen them a bit more. My hay spear has two parallel 'long' spears, I use it for light forklifting as well as moving hay. I think if I were doing what you did, I would have put a skidsteer type of adapter on the tractor and built my spear to fit that. But you have proven you know more than me about your whole process...
I like your idea buddy now are them cylinders are a float cylinders or a you can push down the ground and pick the front tires up how can you find out if strong enough to pick a bell up with your pump
looking at bale spike designs for loaders am wanting to make one that incorporates a quick attach for my bucket on my jd46a loader on my 3020 --- i like large spears on the bottom it helps with loose bales seems like . good work !!!!
Nice hand 🤚 held bandsaw cuts with ease
I enjoyed the fabrication time man. You're pretty handy.
I watched him like your comment 🙃. It just appeared lol!
@@audreyhogan8285 pretty cool when that happens.

You’re amazing! You must have learn so much from your Grandfather and Father! You’re a good Engineer! I’ve learned from you! Thank-you!
I love your variation of dueling banjos in this video.
You farmer/machinist guys have a lot of cool toys and a lot of creativity!
Professional job, nice. Round bales will make life a little easier on the Ranch.
Just love fabrication videos. Rehabbing old tractors making them useful. well done

I appreciate it David thank you!
All this fabricating is another career broading experience!!
You are an incredible fabricator Tyler. Take care and have a blessed week.
Thank you so much!

"I will have to burn some 7018..." - love the welding lingo!
Such satisfaction when you build something useful from scratch. Great video!
a welding rancher who plays the guitar! A man of many talents!
Enjoyed watching you put that together! Thanks for sharing that with us.
It's a real pleasure watching a talented fabricator at work. Good job!!!
I always enjoy your fabrication videos. Your editing and dubbing make all of your videos exceptional.
As always, I like your job. A nice idea to renovate your grandfather's tractors. Take care and God Bless Your Farm. :):):)
Your music goes so well with your vids.
Nice job. Can't wait to see the first lift!!
Me too!
my dad was a welder I enjoy your videos

Good Night Mrs. FTR
A welding video just like old times :)
Well done, great adaptation and using what you have.
The Hay spear looks well built. Hope the loader does good with the round bales.
Thank you Evan! Me too. I wouldn’t mind if I had a slightly bigger tractor for this kind of work but I’m just going to have to make this one work!
really nice! I can't wait to see it in use with the rebuilt hydraulics
The old Ford 8N, reliable and tough!

Great job fabing up the bale spear! Your videos keep me inspired to keep cranking out videos of my own. Thanks!
You have some really good equipment and tools that helps you transform things good video
I really enjoyed the fabrication part of the video
Great fabrication. Good job

So interesting and just plain awesome!
Nice looking welds Tyler. I love working with metal, more than wood..
Me too!
I've seen some later videos where you use the stabilizers for carrying stuff - ended up more functional. You sure work hard, and smart.
Tyler, nice fab work!
That is purfeshnal grade right there! :) Very nicely done.
Haha thanks!
Another great video Tyler! You are crazy talented!!!
Thanks Craig!
Well it’s about time dude. We all knew you had that coolness factor to build things. Show it off man.
Great video! Hats the life of a working man:
Done with my day job, now time to go to work at my night job.
Thanks 😊
wow what a neat job. Thank you for sharing this with us. God bless.
Thank you Dyana!
Incredible. Hope it works!! 🙌🇺🇸 TFS
Thank you!
And that 7018 sounds so Purdy Burning. 😌😏
Yes it does! That little Everlast makes a nice arc
Great job.

Keep your video's coming, cheers. 😃
Wonderful design and work, Tyler. I’m sure you will get it dialed in just the way you need it.
Nice fab job Tyler.
Looking good!
Nice looking welds! Good burn in.
Thank you!
@@farmertylerranch4399 You do an excellent job of teaching. Keep up the good work. I have been metal fabricating since 1969 and I'm still at it. :-)
You did a really nice job. Job well done.
I knew from the beginning that this was going to be a good fabrication video.
Keep us posted on the repairs to the tractor. Will be interesting to see your updates.
Once again I am impressed with your knowledge in the shop. Weld done.
Great Job !!!!!
Good stuff thanks for sharing.
If you don't have one then make one. A great guy to have around. 🚜🚜👍👍🚜🚜👌👌🚜🚜
That’s kind of my motto! Thanks Anne
Great job
Good job thanks
Awesome job. Pumped about seeing the hydraulic work coming up
Awesome job buddy..

Just found your Chanel after Evan at country view acre, just spent four hours watching you repair the old fords
Thank you Lewis! Hope you’re enjoying it

Oh I seen a Yamaha in the background!! 👍👍
Cool, I’m a new viewer and enjoy watching your channel.
Thank you Audrey! Welcome to the channel I’m glad you like it!
Nice fab work , don't forget counter weight! I love these vids!
That will be the next fab project!
Good job of fabbing up that bale spear Tyler. Should do the job.
Nice work. Nice welds.
Very good video, really enjoyed it. Can't wait to see it in action.
Wow. Amazing job! Very impressed with your skills and knowledge!!
Nice job Tyler, it looks good. Keep up the good work.
Now you need to get or build a bale unroller. That completes the package.
Yes that is on the list. Have to build one by October!
Thx
Very nice job of the welding. Hope the bale spear works as well for you as my home made spear works for me.
You do very nice work
Thank you!
Like your clean fab work
Love the fab videos

Yes Mig is used in most heavy industrial welding facilities, better speed and appearance ......cheers
Will do joe thank you!
Enjoyed the fab video. Sorry about the mishap, good thing you hadn’t painted the tractor yet!
Haha yes true enough!

Yeah that’s not a bad idea
Tyler, I think you'll need an oven for your shop 🥃👍🏻
Almost looks like you know what you're doing there Tyler 😝😉
Looks good! I hope it all works out the way you planned.
Thank you Julie!
Woohooo fab!!!
Tyler don't be afraid to make them spears more sharp points
Thank you. I was considering that too. I think I could do it with the bandsaw or the plasma of course!
I would say the needle point you have is a better idea the a pin point. Father and i are going to try that on our next experiment
Can buy the spears with bushs cut a hole in your bottom bar weld the bush in and the spears go in the bush with a nut behind them
Feeding round bales will save you enough time to work on Farmer Tyler Jr project.
My two cents on the bail stabilizers. The longer they are the more they will bend. I had to make mine no longer than 1 foot. Here in Canada we still have hockey games to watch that won't have trouble lifting lighter bales
Yeah I think you’re right. Once I get all the work done on the hydraulic system I’m going to do a weight test
Wow that’s been a long time for Canada to be in the final. Congrats.
looking at bale spike designs for loaders am wanting to make one that incorporates a quick attach for my bucket on my jd46a loader on my 3020 --- i like large spears on the bottom it helps with loose bales seems like . good work !!!!
