Lunar 2: Eternal Blue is the game that made me a story-seeker type of gamer; I definitely recommend it (also since you've already played the other half of the collection).

I am sad they aren't using the MC from the Gatcha for this new Resna but the red haired girl in this one looks cute too so we'll definitely see
Penny Blood is not coming in 2025. They don't even have a publisher and haven't even been working on the game because there is a lawsuit about them never getting the money from the Kickstarter campaign as well. It's unfortunately looking more likely that the game never sees the light of day, but if it does, it's at least another 2-3 years from now before it'd have any possibility of release. Instead we got that rogue-lite Penny Blood: Hellhound to try to build some love for the IP in hopes it helps add value for any potential publisher.
Phantom Brave Played the hell out the original game back when it first came out. Its the reason I actually got into not just the Disagea series but Strategy RPG as whole.
I loved Phantom Brave We Meet Again on the Wii, and i bought it again on the Switch, and beat it a second time. I am really looking forward to the sequel Phantom Brave the Lost Hero coming out later this month.
@@ShadowEliteHD Not for me. I preferred them pure anime. Tbf I'm not really a Disgaea person. I only liked Phantom Brave and literally nothing else from that entire line of series. :/
Woah! Shadow making a solo video after all this time!? 2025 is starting off strong already lol Well, the JRPG I'm most looking forward to is of course Trails Through Daybreak 2, which will most likely be my GOTY since Daybreak was for last year for me. Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter might join it depending on how it goes, especially with the English Voice cast returning or not. Graces F I'm looking forward to also but pretty much just for the story and characters, not so much battle system since it has my least favorite battle system of all the Tales Of games I've play(Vesperia having my most favorite one). Like A Dragon Pirates in Hawaii is another game I looking forward to. Another LAD/Yakuza with an English Dub!? Yes please! Can't wait to hear Matt Mercer as Majima again and with much more screen time. The game sounds super over the top and I'm gonna love it! Hmm, I MIGHT get Fate/Extra Record since I like the Fate series a lot but it seems like this remake is not gonna have an English Dub either which REALLY sucks. I played the original on PSP which was my first Fate experience ever and I liked it but it's lack of an English Dub made me just finish Saber's route and put the game down after that. Not a JRPG but I'm REALLY looking forward to Bleach Rebirth of Souls. It's been SO LONG since the last console Bleach game and it's looking really fun. It could be for Bleach like the Ultimate Ninja games are for Naruto in where people can just play RoS to experience the Bleach story without reading the manga/watching the anime if they want, well at least the first half of the series. It COULD have JRPG elements in it based on some of the DLC items that comes with digital editions. Not a JRPG either but thanks to the confirmation of an English Dub and hearing Stephanie Sheh as Estelle makes me hyped and look forward to Ys vs. Trails in the Sky! It's gonna be a fun little game with characters interacting with each other and hearing them in English fully will be great! ^_^ I'm sure with the Switch 2 around the horizon a bunch of games we don't know about will be announced so by the end the year our lists will grow a lot I'm sure lol

I'm buying that Freedom War Remaster for sure man, incredibly cool and underrated game and everyone want the sequel, that cliffhanger was no joke lmao. I have big expectations for Atelier this time as well! I've been replaying the whole Xeno series so X's remaster will have to wait. Great video!
Regarding Lunar vs Suikoden prioritization, it really just depends on how OG you're sensibilities are. Lunar was one of my first RPGs. I played it on Sega CD. The opening quest, which is assuredly cliche now, was jaw-droppingly cool then. As a kid, I genuinely felt like I was going on a quest to save the world. I played Suikoden too. I loved getting all the new characters, but was a little overwhelmed by it. I generally like games where you get an attachment to a core set of characters. If you're sensibilities are old school, if you see older titles warmly as nostalgic, instead of dismissively as cliche, then Lunar is the one you should prioritize.
I agree Tales of Graces F's story is run of the mill but not awful, the combat is absolutely amazing tho. I can't wait for Graces F, Lunar Collection, Suikoden collection, and Monster Hunter Wilds (not exactly JRPG but I love the gameplay loop). I can't wait to see what other Tales games get a remaster; there's at least one or two more ^__^
the most anticipated JRPG i am most looking forward to is FATE EXTRA RECORD. it's the game i am most excited to get this year (which was hard to choose which one is my most anticipated out of some of the awesome video games we are getting this year like DOOM THE DARK AGES and YAKUZA LIKE A DRAGON PIRATES IN HAWAII) i really hope we get a trailer for this game showing when this game will specifically come out this year along with a playable demo everyone can play as we wait for the full release and that this game comes out as soon as possible
Thanks for the great video! I'll be picking up Freedom Wars, but I'm afraid if it is $40, then those sales numbers may not be great. If they launch it at $20, it could do very well!
Hi shadow. You said three words that made me smile big time due to nostalgia and my love for the series.. Shadow hearts series ❤️💪. I've been waiting for part 4 for years or a strong spiritual successor. 😎😊
Sounds like you need to switch to a faster attacking weapon next time you Monster Hunter. I mean, staying airborne an entire fight with the Insect Glaive doesn't exactly strike me as "slow".
Of course Trails Through Daybreak, Atelier Yumia and the Trails In The Sky remake are on my "absolutely buy" list. I hope we will hear more about the upcoming new Tokyo Xanadu this year, but it's awfully quiet on that front. I will wait how Atelier Releriana will turn out to be. If it's really without gacha elements or other forms of monetization, it's a buy for me also. I wish I could play any of the Xenoblade games, but as a PC player only, I guess I will never get that chance. I am mildly interested in Tails Of Graces F, because I have never played the original (PC remember?). Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 certainly has my full attention. The only thing that really did not clicked with me was the "in your face" QTE in the game play. I personally don't like that very much, but we will see. The new Rune Factory game has a mild interest from me. I am not that fond about management games, but if they fit in enough other game play elements it can be interesting. Contrary to you I am not that fond on pixelated games. As a old school gamer I have grown up with those pixelated games, and was glad the graphics improved over the years to at least get rid of those blocky figures. So I am not that wild about what I see as a regression to ancient times. For me a good remaster or reboot is about getting rid of those pixelated figures, not improve the environment but keep those sometimes unrecognizable blobs of pixels. But that's a personal preference...
I'm looking forward to Rune Fencer Illyia, Sea of Stars DLC and Chained Echoes DLC. Maybe world of horror will get a 2025 update I hope? Last Moon looks interesting too and it has a demo.
I have no only played Phantom Brave.... It's actually my tied for my favorite PS2 game next to Star Ocean 3. It's underrated... but so is most of NIS catalogue.
Between Suikdon or Lunar, since you liked the enjoyed the Lunar PSP game and were not feeling Eiyuden Chronicles I would recommend starting Lunar. That being said Suikoden II has one of my favorite villain in a RPG with Luca Blight.
Who is the character on the thumbnail? The artstyle screams Atelier to me but I have never seen her in any of those games (granted I have only played Sophie so far). Is she from the gacha? Or something different entirely?
The Lunar series is amazing, but Suikoden I & II are truly inspired. If you appreciate story and lore, I would go one further and suggest reading a synopsis of the novel Water Margin which Suikoden was loosely derived from.
With MH I also thought it was slow, but then I played with all the weapons. I found one that had a good rhythm for me and now I love the franchise. If a demo comes out for Wilds I highly suggest playing with all the weapons and figure out what suits you.

Oh holy shit Trails in the Sky 1 getting a remake??? I’ve been wanting to get into that series (Particularly wanting to play the Cold Steel games), but as I have most of them on PC, pixel graphics aren’t that great for me on a PC and so I bounced off right at the start with Trails in the Sky 1. But this? This might get me to actually play through
Am I the only one who hated Freedom Wars? The levels became very grindy - taking almost 20 minutes or more to complete a mission. Also, I think I'm around halfway through the story and still have NO IDEA what's going on. Shame because the same company made SAO: Fatal Bullet which is one of my favorite games ever.
It's a very flawed game with a cliffhanger ending that never got a sequel...but still most games in that genre take a good while for every mission/hunt unless you're *very* good?
From this video: Phantom Brave: Lost Hero Followed by: Fate/Extra, Armed Fantasia Tales of Grace F, Atelier Yumia, Trails Through Daybreak 2, Trails in the Sky, Rune Factory: Guardian of Azuma, Atelier Resleriana, Thread of Time, Freedom Wars, Penny Blood, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
Tales of Graces F combat da GOAT Clair Obscur looks masterful, seems like the west has not fallen yet Rune factory looks interesting, i only played the one on the PS3
Suikoden 1, 2 and lunar are both known to have the best story telling and world building. So you cant really go wrong. Just fyi suikoden 1 story kinda slow because they starting to establishe the world then it gets great during suikoden 2. If u played eiyuden chronicle its basicly suikoden 1.
from whats announced so far i'm looking forward to Kingdom come Deliverence 2, XBCX DE and Sky the First and while this isn't a game Switch 2 overall, im ready to move on from the stinky switch (joking btw)
@@ShadowEliteHD Moderation is key. At least, an option menu to reduce the effect. I always crank them down when playing the modern Ys games on console, so it's easier to maintain visual on other surrounding foes while attacking the one in front. Auto camera and FOV on Switch make it hard to do so. Glad they use blue and red effect to differentiate normal, speed and power attack. It's help a tons in handheld. Now that I think about it, I should check later if the sound effect is different too. Cant wait for YS XI. Hope they also add Speed Attack & Skill to the Normal Attack and Power Attack & Skill the main characters use. Holding the dodge bumper and pushing one of the 4 face buttons.👍
Why do so many games have to be EITHER hit or miss? Don't they test the games with users then tweak them BEFORE release? I just don't understand the rigidness of the developers these days! when they have all the internet at their disposal.
I wish I was more interested in the Atelier games than I am, given how few female main character we get in JRPGs, but I just really dislike the artstyle. I am interested in the Trails in the Sky remake, tho. I played the originals, and quit playing after I finished the Cold Steel series. None of the Main Characters compare to Estelle. Heh. Mugen looks great too, but I don't need another Gacha game (playing 2 right now) so big pass on that one.
Suikoden is more of a classic, so maybe prioritize that. It’s also more time consuming if you recruit all heroes, which you should at least try to do. Lunar is great, but not nearly as innovative for its time as Suikoden, so I would add those to my backlog to play when you have a bit of time on your hands.
When it comes to video games, in 2025. We're going to continue our good eating. I like knowing, that old games, are coming to a new console , and or other mobile devices. I feel, we're going to not only have Nintendo switch, and its sequel cancel. I don't think they're going to get rid of the Nintendo switch, but I feel, we're going to hold on to the Nintendo switch, just a bit longer. Then when 2026 get here, that's when they will cast aside, the Nintendo switch. If not that, they're going to give us new switch titles, up until before this year ends.
7:45 On the one hand you can say whatever you want about this game and I might agree with you in part or in whole. But on the other hand, I'm sorry but JRPG is JRPG, and that include ANANTA and Threads of Tiem becuase they are chinese and canadian Respectively.
I want the very last game for the Nintendo switch, to be, Metroid prime 4. Hopefully, we get Metroid prime 4, on the switch, in the sequel cancel. Nintendo switch 2: electric boogaloo. All of that aside, this is a very long shot, but I want, Chrono trigger HD remake, on Nintendo switch 2: electric boogaloo. If not a HD remake, finally getting a sequel. Sure, this isn't going to happen, but, that's what I want so bad. I also have given up hope, we're going to see, Metroid prime 4. That's never going to happen. I feel, it's in so much development hell, it's never going to come out. Just like, we're never going to see a new game for f-zero, no, HD remake, no reboot, nor even a sequel to the previous f-zero game, that was on the GameCube. I don't see it happening.
2025 is a weak year for my taste in jrpg's. Clair Obscur is the only one I'm looking forward to. Looks to be a year of indie jrpg's, srpg's, and crpg's for me. Happy for the Falcom fans though.
I don’t think there are things that are too big to fail like pokemon. Consumer trust last only for so long, look at starwars. 4-5 more bad, buggy, unplayable releases and it’ll be in the water
Best I can say about Freedom Wars is...forgettable? Was just another budget Monster Hunter ala God Eater/Soul Sacrifice. Perfectly serviceable and has lots of style, but that audience already has Monster Hunter.
Gacha games are trash though. Just cause they use the exact same lootbox garbage thats basically legalized gambling for kids to make money doesnt make them good. In principal Im not a fan of lootboxes in any form. They ruin any game theyre attached to. Especially in full priced games I have to dump better part of 100 bucks to own. I get why some people can like then. But as an old school gamer. They showcase everything I hate about modern games. Which is profit at the expense of having good games.
As a tip , focus on suikoden 1+2 over lunar (you should play both , still better than the other stuff) , suikoden 2 ist one of the best rpgs ever made and 1 is short enough and very enjoyable as well , thx for the outlook always enojoy your content.
Off the top of my head, i think the only Japanese RPGs not listed on here that're confirmed for WW releases are "Death End re;Quest Code Z" and "Ender Magnolia". At least that's what my currently half asleep brain is able to recall. But yeah, i'm looking forward to "Phantom Brave 2". Being a big NIS fan, I'm definitely jumping on that one. Heck, i even replayed the first game through that recent PS5 port. Either way, unless it does very well, it's looking like it might potentially be one of NIS'S last major games before they go under. Their financial situation has been absolutely dire if you haven't heard, even worse than before apparently. With Falcom tossing NISA aside for future projects, they've lost even that lifeline. "Atelier Yumia" should be interesting. Not too keen on how blatantly they are trying to recapture the reception of "Ryza" but whatever. Funnily, i've actually been in the process of catching back up with the series. I never actually played anything past the "Arland" trilogy and i wanted to change that. Currently on my 7th entry, of 14, so i'm only about halfway to catching up. Well, 15 now since "Yumia" will be long released by the time i get to the end. I'll only be a couple months late for it. Also, RIP "Pennyblood". That game ain't happening.
@@shadowmaksim Yea for Yumia the Ryza like marketing campaign is in affect but I don't blame them since they need to keep that same awareness up. And for Penny Blood it sucks that the game is pretty much done for. It'll take a miracle to get it back on track
@@Troy-gu5vu been around for a min no one can come to a general consensus of what defines JRPG. Got some it needs to be made in Japan and others its a style of game with certain elements. It's all over the place.
@ShadowEliteHD if it simply refers to any game made in Japan than there is no value to calling something a JRPG, as Japanese developers can make any kind of game, just like the rest of the world, and they are not beholden to a specific art/game/mechanical style so it's not like you are guaranteed to see something in a Japanese game that would warrant grouping it that way, but that is the purpose of genres, defining things by their style, grouping them based on similar gameplay ideas and mechanisms, so without experiencing the individual game if you know it's genre you already have an idea of what it will be like, so if JRPG is a genre then there IS value, it allows you to understand what kind of game it is, and in this case it is the genre that Japan pioneered and that's why we call it Japanese, because without them that genre would not exist, but it does exist and any game that fits the genre IS that genre because, again, that's the point of genres, but when two games play massively different then grouping them in the same genre also has no value, which is what lead to this meaningless catch all term that mutated into "it came from Japan"
Lots of JRPGs on the horizon! Let me know which ones you are most looking forward to and it will help greatly if you Like the video!

Threads of Time looks real nice 🤩
Looks really promising hopefully its as good as the trailer makes it out to be
From this video: Phantom Brave: Lost Hero
Followed by:
Fate/Extra, Armed Fantasia Tales of Grace F, Atelier Yumia, Trails Through Daybreak 2, Trails in the Sky, Rune Factory: Guardian of Azuma, Atelier Resleriana, Thread of Time, Freedom Wars, Penny Blood, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
Threads of Time will be release on Xbox series X as well
Tales of Graces F combat da GOAT
Clair Obscur looks masterful, seems like the west has not fallen yet
Rune factory looks interesting, i only played the one on the PS3
i love how all the non-Nintendo exclusives are coming to pc even from japan which didn't really pay attention to that market till recently.
Switch games stay on Switch I guess lol
Suikoden 1, 2 and lunar are both known to have the best story telling and world building. So you cant really go wrong. Just fyi suikoden 1 story kinda slow because they starting to establishe the world then it gets great during suikoden 2. If u played eiyuden chronicle its basicly suikoden 1.
if you only got to play one i would say suikoden but the lunar games are also great
i have a switch, so im mostly waiting for Xenoblade X and Trails In The Sky remake
from whats announced so far i'm looking forward to Kingdom come Deliverence 2, XBCX DE and Sky the First and while this isn't a game Switch 2 overall, im ready to move on from the stinky switch (joking btw)
For me my hype goes to daybreak 2 and edens zero for jrpgs.
Feels like the Edens Zero rpg was announced awhile ago and still hasn't come about lol
8:00 All those useless camera movement make me dizzy. I hate it when games rely too much on camera for impact effect.
Yep I wanted to remain postive about it but does look like after while of playing all that crazy camera changes could have a negative effect.
Not to brag, but I still have my physical copy of Freedom Wars for the Vita😎
Not to brag I still have a pstv and Freedom wars lol
I think I still have mine as well but I have no clue where it is lol
Why do so many games have to be EITHER hit or miss? Don't they test the games with users then tweak them BEFORE release?
I just don't understand the rigidness of the developers these days! when they have all the internet at their disposal.
I played the original phantom brave. I didn't finish it!
But on the other hand, I'm sorry but JRPG is JRPG, and that include ANANTA and Threads of Tiem becuase they are chinese and canadian Respectively.
if you do play these , please live stream
I really do need to livestream more often.
Games have been getting too expensive lately 😢
I'm a hardcore Atlus/persona fan and I don't have their games yet 😭😭😭😭
So you never played a persona game?
@BoliLelly I played them all Bro. But I am in a financially tough spot and buying games ain't part of the budget. I also want to play Unicorn overlord
@@squalleonkeneddyheart4191same here, I'm in backlog mode. Hobby money is low lol
"Biggest leap in turn based combat" Lol that's literally QTE mid turn, how is it new ? Yakuza 7 and 8 literally already do that
Suikoden collection 😊
Lunar collection
"Story and character's mean very little to me"... what a silly thing to say.
@EpicJoeE when it comes to THAT GAME in particular. Jesus Christ come on
I will keep day break 1 on the shelf and just before 2 weeks of day break 2 I will beat it , also I wish they will fix the performance issues in wild.
Yea hearing Monster Hunter Wilds performance issues was a pain but hopefully it was just the beta.
dq12 bro this year fr i'm telling you
2025 is a weak year for my taste in jrpg's. Clair Obscur is the only one I'm looking forward to. Looks to be a year of indie jrpg's, srpg's, and crpg's for me. Happy for the Falcom fans though.
Hey man fair enough not every RPG is for everyone. Clair Obscur looks amazing
Go with Suikoden.
Play Lunar!
Freedom Wars forgettable??? Yeah, I can see that. It was just a good game play on Vita at the end of the day.
Play Suikoden
6:38 I haven't played a single NIS game since they dropped the sprites. That 3D art style is trash.
Sadly its just not the same without the HD sprites smh.
No Dragon quest 1&2
Btw not a complaint, great video!
@@joshpruett4851 lol cool. tbh they slipped right pass me probably because they don't have a proper trailer or gameplay yet.
As a tip , focus on suikoden 1+2 over lunar (you should play both , still better than the other stuff) , suikoden 2 ist one of the best rpgs ever made and 1 is short enough and very enjoyable as well , thx for the outlook always enojoy your content.
Freedom wars no marketing sadly. Sony/ bandai don't care
Seems like they only do a trailer and some tweets smh. Makes me wonder why they brought it backl
Lunar over Suikoden, if only because it doesn’t need a guide or multiple playthroughs to feel like you got everything out of it.
It'll take a miracle to get it back on track
expedition 33 is a JRPG a lot of the other games on this list are not, why do people strugle with the concept of JRPG is a genre!
