Great tutorial Jay! I have used the Americana Craft Paints on terrain and they work very well. The colors simulate soils and sands nicely. We too have the tester pots in home centers. If you are planning to use a particular color a lot they will mix it in any size can of paint you want and that will last for years. Thanks for sharing this.
I have never seen it in the UK. The worst thing about doing youtube is dealing with different countries. I wonder if an alien invasion could unify us! Thanks for the tip though :)
Great vid!!! My brother and i see you from spain! You help us a lot making peces for terrain for that cheap!, it's so easy to make that we have started selling them!!
Decorator's Caulk is another thick acrylic - £1 a tube. You get it from B&Q / WIckes etc. Very, VERY thick, but you can water this down and add paint to colour it. When it dries, it dries SOLID. So its a great base paint, or primer for stuff.
My favorite money saving tip for some common crafting materials: Foamcore is cheaper at the Dollar General in the US, but posterboard is cheaper at Walmart. Foam core is a dollar at the DG, but 5 dollars at Walmart, while a sheet of posterboard is still a dollar at the DG, and only 33 cents at Walmart. The more expensive foam core is more dimensionaly accurate (I've found thin spots and thick spots in the cheaper stuff... which is GREAT fun when you are trying to kerf bend the stuff... ) and I recommend peeling the paper off the cheap foam core. It is way easier to get a nice texture into the foam than on the paper, in my limited experience.
Yeah, that's diffifult because in the UK you can't really buy it super cheap, the pricing is not too bad but not like £1 cheap! But sure in the US I would always buy the cheap stuff I think.
@@TerrainMadeEasy They don't ever stock a lot of it at any one store, but I live in the middle of nowhere and we still have 4 of them in town, so I do a big loop and try and hoard it all... especially now that I have pulled the trigger on getting back in for 9th edition.
@@TerrainMadeEasy Hi .. Well i think the only think i can find easily here is modpoge in Amazon and some PVA glue. Im didn't Craft todo much so probably i didn't look for It harder ;)

@Kirkhaus Britannia. ya I sort of did over lockdown used more wood then other materials it was 3ft by 3ft play table hight for our 4 yr old covid County I called it car wash garage race track around the outside parking all that city look cheers for wondering 😁
I specifically used a cheap set of acryllics for my terrain. Granted I used an awful primer that did not like any form of paint on top of it (Wilkos gun metal spray) after about 5 coats it ended up being quite good!
Sorry to hear about your primer experience! My favorite primer is the "high build volume" or "sandable" or "automotive Primer" that rustoleum makes. If you have amazon prime (at least in the US) they usually have a can of that really cheap as a thing you can tack on to a 25 dollar order. I don't know how to order less than 25 dollars at a time from amazon... :D
To be fair, my one bad experience was with a blue paint from home bargain, it just would not stick to anything. Cheap paints can be dodgy every now and then, but the saving is worth it. I should have state dthat Iw as not talking about spray paints, but to be fair most spray paints are okay as well, but not all
@@TerrainMadeEasy There are still cheaper primers than rustoleum, and I would never use that high build volume on a mini, but it makes my 3d printed parts look like they were injection molded smooth. :D
Search underfloor insulation in eBay. You can get a big sheet cheaply. Or if you are struggling, get on the Facebook group and tag me Jason Cun liffe and I'll get you a link
Once again, amazing tips. If you are new to terrain making or have been making terrain for years, you'll pick up some great ideas.
Thank you for your kind words :)

Thanks for sharing, I use those paintseven though they are a bit expensive to get (ameriana) simply because I know they are available in the US.
I use all of these. My favorite glue is "Crafters Pick". It is nice and thick and can be used like contact cement. Thanks for sharing

Have you found any that doesn't need a caulking gun?
@@TerrainMadeEasy no. But I've found a caulk gun for about £3. Or just cut it open with a Stanley knife!
@@Godonstilts I have a caulk gun myself. I really like the stuff myself :-)

As far as sculptamold goes, can't you get a similar result just with pva and shredded paper to make paper mache?
I always found mine to go lumpy but not tried it in years!

Spackle is a brand name of filler. Most people in the USA will know PVA as Elmer's Glue, another brand name.

Rustoleum in the UK is as expensive as other sprays for some reason. In budget shops you can pick up some sprays though, brand varying!

Mud. I have it for sale on Ebay for just £10 per gram.
I think you are kidding. at £10 gram I hope so. But I legit looked online for soil I could use instead of digging it up because I am lazy!
Your terrain ideas are great, but you look like somebody did one of those 90s CGI face morphs of Simon Pegg and Nick Frost.
I look a little like Sam Tarly from Game Of Thrones I think!
Also I think the camera I was using at the time was doing face smoothing and I have now resolved that :)
