    Nuclear reactors are the most important part of a nuclear power plant. In thermal power plants coal is used as a but in nuclear power plants uranium is used as a fuel and nuclear reactor is a furnace of Uranium.
    The nuclear reactor completes the nuclear fission process in a controlled manner. The process of Uranium is completely controlled by moderators and control rods so in this video talks about how nuclear reactors work and all the Security Checks of nuclear reactors and talking about the complete process of the nuclear power plants and a nuclear reactors to generate electricity.

    As a Plant design engineer, I think I am pretty qualified to rate the video as informative. The type of reactor you explained here is called "Calandria type Pressuized Heavy water Reactor (PHWR)".
    A reactor or any complex chemical or nuclear plant has a number of Active and Passive Safety measures.
    Control rods are active safety measures. There are number of Safety valves, emergency heat exchangers, Electronic interlocks, shutdown systems and lastly, blast proof concrete walls to prevent accident.
    You have to understand that these safety precautions were developed as we learnt from past accidents and mistakes. Nuclear accidents like Chernobyl and Fukushima happened because the root cause of accidents were NEVER considered while designing the plant. No engineer wants his plant to explode, but we are still improving these complex technologies by learning from mistakes.
    Trust me, No accident happens by purpose. It normally is a operator human error, sensor failures or out of design scope conditions. The people that designed these things are very smart and very professional. There is no room for errors and mistakes.

      Why scientists don't use that energy as electricity, I mean what's the point of using turbine if a reactor itself produces electricity

    • @sukalplamture518
      @sukalplamture518 10 месяцев назад +2

      @@boomcalorie9977 Reactor produces energy in form of Heat (high pressure steam). We need energy in the form of electricity. Thus we use turbine, to turn it using high pressure steam, produce electricity.
      Reactor produces heat even when it is not running (because of nuclear radiation), it is called decay heat. You cannot convert it to electricity because it is too less to produce steam and generate electricity. You need keep the reactor cooling even when it is not "running". We do this by pumping cooling water in the reactor.
      In Fukushima accident, these cooling water pumps failed (due to tsunami), due to which reactor overheated, generated hydrogen gas from steam and exploded. I hope this clears your doubts.
