A master piece as space dye vest among other stuff, it is just unparalleled, magic, probably Jordan probably is better at his technique but… music another thing
I think Rudess did a good job in this example but overall I enjoy Kevin Moore's compositions and playing more. Rudess sometimes sounds like a machine on keys. In most cases he drops emotion and feel in favor of technicality.
They’re all amazing. I’ve met Jordan several times had lunch with him. He is a gift both musically and spiritually. However my most amazing life experiences seeing DT live was in 1998on the Touring Into Infinity Tour when Derek Sherinian was on keys. I’ll just say these concerts were DT on fire!!
Kevin Moore ofc. It's his parts, after all. But seeing Jordan Rudess and the band perform live here in the Philippines, (2017 I&W Tour,) i didn't care about his playing at all, they were so jawdroppingly amazing on-stage and i enjoyed them so much! Everyone was amazing, my heart was pounding throughout the whole concert. The best concert of my life!
It was my first time going to a concert, by the way 😊. They're supposed to perform here again in the Philippines on April 30 but it was cancelled due to the coronavirus. Hope they'll reschedule it, it'll be a dream to hear SFAM live ❤️🤟 Love this band so much
Jordan goes for the grandiose, sweeping orchestral style whereas Kevin has more of a brooding, gothic fantasy atmosphere. Sorry to be boring but I don’t have a preference, they’re both incredible!
Rudess is otherworldly on the keys, jaw dropping talent and comes across as a top guy, but sometimes I wish he’d dial it back a bit. His work on distance over time was the closest he got to Kevin’s playing. What made Kevin Moore special was the bits he didn’t play, his melodies and his lyrics were great too.
Who did it better? the guy who composed the part obviously, but Jordan is replicating this LIVE organ and strings while Kevin only played the string part.
Yea, if I'm not wrong Jordan's sound here is from a dvd or smth, his ability to play both parts simultaneously is crazy... But I still prefer Kevin's tone
Kevin's sounds like it's about to break into Won't Get Fooled Again, Jordan's sounds like it's about to break into Money by Pink Floyd. That aside, Jordan's playing seems a bit more interested in melody and sometimes imagery, whereas Kevin seems more interested in creating moods and soundscapes. The switch from cheesy 90s orchestra stabs to fake sounding string sections is difficult to compare, but it does leave the latter feels a bit unfocused in comparison but I imagine Rudess is trying to go for more of a 'big' orchestral sound. I think the real comparisons are probably comparing modern DT to Kevin's other projects like OSI which really show his interest in using keyboards a bit more experimentally as ambiance whereas Rudess likes to use faux orchestration to create his idea of a 'big' feeling track (at the expense of sometimes sounding cheesy).
Kevin Moore did more in one album than Rudess in his entire discography. His solo on Take the Time is better than all of Rudess's wankery put together.
Amen! Jordan is incredibly disrespectful in how he handles Kevin and Derek's songs. The solo on Take the Time being a perfect example. Jordan butchers it routinely with his keytar.
Kevin was more creative when it came to writing the songs, selecting the sounds, the effects and adding pauses and breaking the rhythm and this was a key Orr of what made Dream Theater so special. If you’re going to play the classics… Beethoven, Mozart, Bach then Jordan is far better but that’s not what we tune into Dream Theater for. Kevin was a huge loss. Big shoes to fill. Jordan does better than most at that but I’d take Kevin back in a heartbeat.
Have honestly not been a big fan since Kevin Moore left. It's not just the live skills it's the composition work and lyric writing contributions. He was a huge loss to DT. Regarding this clip and Rudess's take on it, I think the arpeggiator kind of lazy
rudess is better in my opinion if you compete with the sound effects...but in Kevin Moore's hands this song is a bestseller...rudess should be subject to royalties for playing his tunes...lolz just kidding
Kevin Moore. Always my favorite. Always.
DT could not make albums like Images and Words and Awake again. They never achieved the iconic melodies that Kevin Moore gifted to music.
Jordan is amazing but he's just another Petrucci, same stuffs... with Kevin the keyboards are another color in the painting
Exactly...i think rudess is guitaris with another sound and play with keyboard.
Yes
Totally agree
Cool=Kevin
Wild=Derek
Elegant=Jordan
The master Kevin Moore buddy!
A master piece as space dye vest among other stuff, it is just unparalleled, magic, probably Jordan probably is better at his technique but… music another thing
I still miss the play of Kevin Moore
I like Jordan more, BUT Kevin's solo in Take the Time is far far far better than Jordan's version.
Kevin win
nope

You gotta be kidding me. Jordan is so bland and boring
Kevin wins!
Jordan goes for the grandiose, sweeping orchestral style whereas Kevin has more of a brooding, gothic fantasy atmosphere. Sorry to be boring but I don’t have a preference, they’re both incredible!
Ummmm...Kevin Moore....always.
Kevin,forever forever forever
🏆 *Jordan Rudess!* 🏆

Kevins, no competition
Kevin Moore's patch is punchier
Kevin sounds more like avant-garde
Jordan sounds like sort of theatrical and popular
Moore
Kevin more always

Very good analysis.
Kevin easily!!!
L'assolo di kevin Moore su Pull me Under e' Poesia!!

Moore!
Jordan improvised Kevin's work
Kevin moore is more sweet and bright
More Kevin Moore, but he's in the past...
That's weird but I prefer Moore's version
If your keybordist reads sheet music while performing, is it really frim the soul?
KEVIN
Great space
DEREK S
ABYSM
RUDESS
Jordan is good but he is not the guy that DT needs
One can play Moore,, the other can say more.
Kevin moore
Kevin.
Kevin.💟
I like Jordan's dynamics better.
Kevin was more creative when it came to writing the songs, selecting the sounds, the effects and adding pauses and breaking the rhythm and this was a key Orr of what made Dream Theater so special.

cant listen to anything after “falling into infinity”
Jordan is better player, kevin is better songwriter/composer
Moore. Not because he wrote it.
Have honestly not been a big fan since Kevin Moore left. It's not just the live skills it's the composition work and lyric writing contributions. He was a huge loss to DT. Regarding this clip and Rudess's take on it, I think the arpeggiator kind of lazy
Where Did You Get The Isolated Jordan's Version?
Sounds More Elegant...
I'll go with Jordan Rudess.
In my opinion the Jordan version sounds better
The Kevin Moore version sounds too aggressive
rudess is better in my opinion if you compete with the sound effects...but in Kevin Moore's hands this song is a bestseller...rudess should be subject to royalties for playing his tunes...lolz just kidding
i hate kevin sound, its too dirty
