  • Once saved always saved is a popular Christian doctrine, but is it Biblical? The doctrine of once saved always saved, also known as the Perseverance of the saints, or eternal security is a Christian teaching that says once a person is truly saved, they cannot lose their salvation. But is that what the Bible teaches?

    I think we need to stop trying to aim for the bare minimum for Jesus, and start walking in a way that draws nearer to Jesus every choice we make.

      Mindy, why do you say such a thing? It seems clear that you already aim for the truest because Christ is drawing you toward Him. You say "we", "stop", and "start". Believing what is true is the key. Speaking what is true is to offer Light. It's good to rejoice and be glad because Christ is our Good Shepherd.
      This may sound knit-picky, but "every choice we make" is to knit-pick. Also, Truth is sharper than any two-edged sword, and sharp is precise.
      I agree that we need to not aim for the bare minimum, but we cannot stop such if we have already been stopped from such by Christ. I agree that we should draw nearer to Him in every choice, but we can't start such if Christ has already started us on such.
      There is much talk of how not good enough we are, much warning. But we have been given eternal life. For many the time for warning is past and the time for encouragement is now. We will not be that nor do that which we do not believe. We are saved; let us encourage this belief so we will be and do as the saved shall be and do.

      A walk that draws closer to Jesus means you are walking further away from the world.
      as I have drawn closer to Him, I have laid aside more weights that though they were not sin their weight was a hindrance to my walk, I do not want any strings tying me down to this world When Jesus comes, or I go by the way of the grave.

    It wasn’t our work that got us saved. It was Jesus’s work. And he KEEPS us saved. We don’t keep ourselves saved.

      Jesus's crucifixion is the means by which we may be forgiven. This doesn't mean that His sacrifice isn't enough to remove and forgive us for our sins, but it means that if we continue in sin and remain unrepentant, we can and will lose salvation. Good works go hand in hand in faith. There are a plethora of verses in Mark, Peter, and Matthew that say that we must strive for righteousness. Therefore, good works go hand in hand. We can be forgiven for our sins, but we should not live in them. This is not works based salvation. Righteousness is a lack of evil works. A lack of works. Faith and repentance still save. Repentance is not a work, because it is a work of God to forgive us for our sins. Salvation can be lost. It's a day by day task for a lifetime, not a lifetime that decides whether or not every previous day was enough

      @@dominicochoa9925 once saved always save, if you could loose your salvation you could never get it back. God is not in heaven just blotting out your name everytime you sin & writing it back in when you become good little boys & girls again

Are you really trying to understand what the Bible says in it’s entirety or are you so attached to an idea you have that u want to fight for it tooth and nail even when so many things in the Bible contradict what you’re saying. This isn’t about how u see it or want to understand it. Ask God to show u the truth no matter what it is. Even if it’s against what you currently believe.

    Remember this:
    God knows the heart/deep motives of each and every one of us whether we are saved or not; whether we are hot, lukewarm or cold.
    In his wisdom he distributes or withholds his power, the Holy Ghost.
    No one can fool God!

      You're the same as the new Indian convert who also believes in other gods and says " I'm saved by faith in Jesus...
      but just in case that doesn't work, I got my Krishna by my side" - that never works.
      You're either all in or you are all out.
      You need to know exactly what you believe/what you put your trust in.

      It is very relevant. Changing wording changes meaning. Are saved and being saved are not the same thing. Recieving the spirit vs received the spirit is not the same thing. Passed from death to life vs passing from death to life cannot be the same thing.
      I have a million dollars or I will at some point have a million dollars is completely different.
      I have salvation because I believe
      Or I will have salvation at some point if I keep believing are two different statements.

    GOD say this: Ephesians 1: 13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, (did you catch that: Sealed to GOD forever)
    What GOD seals no man can un-seal.

      There are only 144,000 that are sealed. That’s in Revelations. Everyone is not sealed. That seal means sealed with truth.

      did you catch that????? You conveniently added the word Forever but it never said forever! and also you conveniently skipped over the fact that the word sealed is used in the bible as a stamp a mark NOT as meaning it is Closed and Locked in that is a different definition of the word. You are using the definition of sealing something like "locked in" yet the bible speaks of a seal as being a mark or symbol representing ownership. In verse 14 RIGHT AFTER THIS VERSE in the bible it refers to it like a Down payment or a deposit. But does a down payment/deposit, a symbol showing you are God's that he purchased you and you belong to him, mean that it is "unsealable" and he cant cut you off? He cant remove his deposit? no because being marked doesnt mean you cannot be disowned. But of course to remain consistent with your already preferred idea of osas you have to be told that seal means locked in so you can feel comfortable. Even though the word used in the greek for seal is to mark. not to close up or lock in. I suggest you reread the word through clean and unbiased eyes. I was misled with this same point once too till God opened my eyes.

    He says, "depart of from I never knew you" not "I knew you and I lost you." In the example of the ones he says it to, they are rattling off their works (lordship salvation). They added their works as a condition of salvation and thus grace was of no effect to them. It is trusting only the completed work of Christ that saves. We aren't co-authors of our salvation otherwise we would get some of the glory. Renee Roland has a great channel for hammering the true gospel into people's heads. It's called the good news for a reason, watch it and send it far and wide and people will start getting saved once they understand this is a free gift that has nothing to do with the impossible obedience people are preaching these days. (Not a license to sin btw)

      there would be no need for these warnings to Christians if they could not be subject to them because osas says they cannot be. a man-made doctrine does not get to sit in judgment of God's Word.
      Gal 5:19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
      Gal 5:20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
      Gal 5:21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God
      Gal 6:7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.
      Gal 6:8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.
      Gal 6:9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.
      Rev 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
      It does not matter what your doctrine says, what matters is what God's Word says, and when there are scriptures that have eternal consequences if you do those things, your doctrine does not get to change God's Word and no that scripture is not osased. (osased) made null and void by the doctrine of osas.
      Either God's word says what it means and means what it says or it doesn't, when God's Word says if you do this, that, or the other thing you will not inherit the Kingdom of God, it means exactly what it says and osas is not going to get you out of it.
      Heb 6:4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,
      Heb 6:5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,
      Heb 6:6 If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.
      Heb 6:7 For the earth which drinketh in the rain that cometh oft upon it, and bringeth forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, receiveth blessing from God:
      Heb 6:8 But that which beareth thorns and briers is rejected, and is nigh unto cursing; whose end is to be burned.
      Heb 10:26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,
      Heb 10:27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.
      Heb 10:28 He that despised Moses’ law died without mercy under two or three witnesses:
      Heb 10:29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?
      Heb 10:30 For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people.
      Heb 10:31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
      Osasers do not get to interpret away or explain away the hard verses that stand against their osas, they get to read them and believe them exactly as they read.
      Anyone that says, those verses do not mean what you think they mean is a liar, and they are about to interpret or explain those verses in such a way as to render them null and void of what they plainly say.
      God's Word says it and that settles it.
      Luk 11:24 When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he saith, I will return unto my house whence I came out.
      Luk 11:25 And when he cometh, he findeth it swept and garnished.
      Luk 11:26 Then goeth he, and taketh to him seven other spirits more wicked than himself; and they enter in, and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first.
      It takes the power of God to evict the unclean spirit to start with, but after time has been given by God for that person to grow and obey, and they refuse to do so, God will leave, and when He does the unclean spirit finds his former home vacant and ready for reoccupation and this time he brings some friends.

      josh lausch your problem is that you think that "once saved, always saved" is the same as the term eternal life. They are not. Once you realized this, you'll come to see that the OSAS is a false doctrine.

      Hi. It is absolutely true, 'once saved, always saved.' Remember that salvation is to know Christ, "This is eternal life, that you know God and Jesus Christ Whom He has sent." A person who falls away never knew the Lord, as it is written, "Love never fails." If 'love' fails, it was never really love in the first place; if someone denies the Lord permanently, then they were never saved in the first place; if a person loves sin but professes Christ, they are a tare among the wheat, a wolf in sheep's clothing, a false convert.
      Jesus said that whoever believes in Him will have rivers of living water bubbling up within them. Do you know the Lord? Are you seated in the heavenlies with Christ? Does the Holy Spirit bear witness with your spirit that you are a child of God? Remember that salvation is a personal encounter with the Lord. Simply confessing or going to church does nothing unless you are filled with the Holy Spirit. Ask and you shall receive! If you are not certain about your salvation, you probably are not saved! Jesus Christ is the light of the world.

      @@iceyblue1077 Hi. I hope that you will carefully and prayerfully consider what I have to say, as I am sharing accurately from the Word of God. Paul wrote, "Whoever calls upon the Name of the Lord shall be saved (Romans 10.13)." From Scripture, can we agree that those who are saved 1) bear much fruit and 2) endure to the end? Therefore, when a person calls upon the Name of the Lord, they will be born again. Conversely, if a person prays the 'Sinner's Prayer,' but is not filled with the Holy Spirit, they did not truly call upon the Name of the Lord.
      For example, you mentioned that if a person acts according to fleshly desires without repentance they shall be cut off. Yet, those who have been born again will not fulfill the lusts of the flesh, as they hunger and thirst after righteousness. You cannot be saved and not love and serve the Lord. Those who have been born again HAVE eternal life. They will live forever in Christ, they will hate sin, and they will endure to the end - otherwise they did not have eternal life in the first place. You cannot have temporary eternal life! Therefore, a person cannot 'lose' eternal life, as they were never born again, as they were never saved in the first place.
      What I am about to write is of eternal importance to you. Referring to the Holy Spirit, Jesus said, "Whoever believes in Me shall have rivers of living water bubbling up inside of them." Do you have that? Do you know the Holy Spirit? Does He bear witness that you are saved (Romans 8.16)? If not, then ask, trusting that God always keeps a promise. Whoever asks of Him shall receive the Holy Spirit. Work out your salvation with fear and trembling.
      Christ died on a Cross so that we may know Him. If you are living in fear that you mighty lose your salvation, my question is, how do you know you are saved in the first place? The problem is easily solved by asking for and receiving the Holy Spirit. Christ died on a Cross so that we may know Him. Jesus Christ is the light of the world.

      I don’t understand how someone couldn’t come back and John 3:16, and a host of others could be true. It says believe in present tense, and everyone. Doesn’t that mean if one repents and believes and isn’t saved how could everyone that believes have eternal life?

    Justification- We have been saved from the penalty of past sin
    Sanctification-We are being saved from the power of sin
    Glorification-We will be saved from the presence of sin

      Does the Bible teach that those who are saved will eventually believe in Jesus.
      Or does the bible teach that those who believe in Jesus will be saved?

      "that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved." Romans 10:9

    Point blank honesty is so refreshing; many water down The Word. I prefer the shock & humility when I see my own flaw. I’m quicker to change when I see my guilt. My Savior continues to speak in parables through fellowship & congregational studies. Praise Yah!!

      Hi. It is absolutely true, 'once saved, always saved.' Remember that salvation is to know Christ, "This is eternal life, that you know God and Jesus Christ Whom He has sent." A person who falls away never knew the Lord, as it is written, "Love never fails." If 'love' fails, it was never really love in the first place; if someone denies the Lord permanently, then they were never saved in the first place; if a person loves sin but professes Christ, they are a tare among the wheat, a wolf in sheep's clothing, a false convert.
      Jesus said that whoever believes in Him will have rivers of living water bubbling up within them. Do you know the Lord? Are you seated in the heavenlies with Christ? Does the Holy Spirit bear witness with your spirit that you are a child of God? Remember that salvation is a personal encounter with the Lord. Simply confessing or going to church does nothing unless you are filled with the Holy Spirit. Ask and you shall receive! If you are not certain about your salvation, you probably are not saved! Jesus Christ is the light of the world.

      @@EricBurum the key is that you repented of your sins. God's Grace allows you to be forgiven when you show remorse and repent. But the OSAS crowd say that even if you should die in sin you will still go to Heaven because God don't see you as a sinner.

      those who violate the Sabbath are to be put to death that is the second part of the Law of The Sabbath, the so-called Sabbath keepers are offending in this one point of the law in that they do not do the whole of the Law of the Sabbath but only half of it.
      and to get out of the second part of the Law of the Sabbath the law keepers must run to the New Testament to get their reason why they do not have to do the second part of Keeping the Sabbath, so if they are going to get one reason for not keeping one point of the 10 commandments from the New Testament why not get the rest of the reasons for not being under the Law but under Grace from the New Testament as well.

      This is not exactly the point. Faith and works (or our obedient responses to faith) are interactive. James said:
      21Was not our father Abraham justified by what he DID [his actions] when he offered his son Isaac on the altar? 22 You see that his FAITH was WORKING WITH his ACTIONS, and his faith was PERFECTED by what he did.
      (James 2:21-22)
      Abrahams actions increased his faith causing to grow to completion. Would Abraham have had faith if he had NOT sacrificed His son? I think not.
      The Bible also says:
      8 By faith Abraham, WHEN CALLED to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, OBEYED and went, without knowing where he was going.
      Hearing the call to leave was not enough. Abraham actually had to obey by moving his household.

      No, works are not simply “evidence” of our faith-James explains that they are ALSO a source of justification:
      (James 2:24)
      “24 You see that a man is 👉justified by works and not by faith alone.”
      There is a big difference between saying that works are “evidence” and that works “justify”. It is totally possible for someone who has faith to not have good works. That’s the part that you’re not realizing:
      (1 Timothy 5:8)
      “But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has 👉denied the faith👈 and is WORSE than an unbeliever.”
      You as a believer can “deny the faith” by your deeds. It’s not automatic that your faith will produce good works. You must participate in your own salvation. We are not sponges 🧽 soaking up God’s grace.

      And in that case you are eternally secure because He does the saving. He promises it is eternal life. Not maybe so life. Many who taste of the Holy Spirit but not swallow or gobble it completely are not saved. And can be enlightened but not surrendered and born again. Tasting and being enlighted are not salvation. Jesus said that all that come to Him in salvation He will not lose one. He even promises that those that are under the blood of Jesus are predestined to be like Christ someday. To mix one's filthy rags self works with the finished work of Grace is satans biggest tool to get people to trust in themselves and not in Jesus and His work on the cross. Please beware of false teachers that put the burden of salvation on what you do, denying the saving power of what Jesus did.

    I don’t understand why people put out such videos without more thoroughly researching their subject.
    They misrepresent the other view. First thing... “perseverance of the saints” is a Calvinist doctrine from the “P” of TULIP. “Once saved, always saved” is not the same thing.
    Another thing, Hebrews 6 “fall away” does not say “fall away from the faith.”

      However, if we'd like to enter justification with God, we can follow instructions and receive His mercy, as promised:
      ⚫ "And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent" (Acts 17:30)
      ⚫ "He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy." (Proverbs 28:13)

      Ah, a fruit salad Gospel of grace mixed with works, our effort and endurance. Satan loves this, but this is not the Gospel of the grace of God. If you were to rightly divide Gods word like He tells you to do, you will notice that not everything is written directly to us. We are saved by grace through faith, sealed with the Holy Spirit until the day of redemption. Although you think you’re being pious, you’re not and you’re including your effort to be saved at the end which is not the Gospel and one contrary to the one Paul preached (Our Apostle sent by Jesus Christ Himself).

      The entire chapter is not talking about running the race in order to earn one’s keep with God. It’s talking about running in order to obtain a prize (i.e., an eternal reward). Eternal life is a free-gift received at the moment of belief, whereas, eternal rewards are earned by a life of faithfulness. Paul speaks about an incorruptible crown which will be earned by remaining disciplined in service to the Lord. Paul is by no means teaching that we have to prove we deserve to be kept least at any given moment God gets rid of us.

    "Carnal Christians" are believers. Demons believe...There's a difference. God's people, as the OT Hebrews, believed, but yet not all were/are elected to salvation.
    IF you believe God chooses whom he saves, and you have no part in your salvation, as in , it's all the work of the Messiah, and you say you can turn away as one He has chosen, then you hold more power than He, and I don't buy that at all!

    Eternal security is most definitely taught in the Bible. One cannot be chosen before the foundation of the world and then un-chosen in time. Believers are "sealed unto the day of redemption." The other side of the coin is that a professing Christian is not going to live like the devil. The good news is that we don't have to separate all the tares from the wheat. God will do that, for "knows them that are His." The doctrine of eternal security must not be rejected in an attempt to combat the abuse of God's wondrous grace.

      @@TheBibleSays . Luke 13. is a call for salvation. We are talking about the issue of losing your salvation. I agree we need to repent, and the reason is to keep our relationship with God right. We can't lose our right standing with God or righteousness. Hebrew 4: 1 Was written to unsaved jews who wanted to earn their salvation by works. They were not saved and had made no decision and were in unbelief. The fear of God is a reverence and respect for God, not a fear of punishment. check the original greek.

      I believe it is not somewhat accidental sin, like swearing when you stub your toe, or getting angry at someone ect. It's moreso willfully and defiantly sinning, like planning to hook up with as many women as you can, or planning to set the lord aside since you're depressed and rely on alcohol or xanax to help with your problems.

    The lord said he will never loose any whom the father as given to him . That's why I believe if someone is truly born of the spirit they cannot loose their salvation. I believe some believers are like the prodigal son at times believers get weak sometimes dry get discouraged fall away but God knows how to get them back on track. He will never loose anyone who truly belongs to him .

      Paul was not holding on hoping to make it to the end.. That would designate that one must do certain works with a certain determination and attitude to keep saved. Jesus said there is nothing good in man. It is only by the blood of Jesus. He PAID our penalty in full.
      Jesus offers His work of salvation to those who believe. HE is the one that does the saving and HE promises that those who believe un HIM are declared righteous when born again. It is a one time event when Jesus imputes and puts on our account HIS righteousness. In order for one to be lost after salvation, would mean that Jesus's righteousness would have to fail, which can NEVER happen.
      It is His righteousness, and not ours at all
      What a tragedy that man would think that his own imperfect works from his own sinful nature is part of God's wonderful salvation.

    Imagine the broken down, traumatized, drug addicted/alcoholic sinner that believes the gospel yet is never quite able to leave those addictions behind. The broken down man or woman that believes the gospel and says "forgive me Lord, a sinner". Then imagine the upstanding person that says "I'm so glad I'm not like these others. I quit smoking, drinking, watching movies, i look away everytime i see an ungodly image, i quit having wicked thoughts. I have worked so hard to keep my salvation."

    Anyone can say they believe and have faith, aka most Sunday only Christians who worship their own Jesus.
    If you believe a tornado will shred your house tomorrow, you will naturally prepare for that event. If someone really believes and has faith, they will repent and overcome wickedness, continue to grow and value being set apart to have a living relationship.
    So many people love clinging to OSAS because they can continue to live wicked lives, without repentance or relationship, and claim that we as humans will always be sinners and theres nothing we can do so might as well induldge in sin.

    Being saved is like admission into the university. If you don't submit yourself to the programs laid out by the school then you can't end up as a graduate student. So also every newly saved believer must commit himself to the programs and teachings of salvation to mature into a worthy candidate of the righteous kingdom to come.

    Essentially, it comes down to who is doing the saving? If we are trusting in anything we do to save us, we have no hope of even temporary salvation, much less eternal salvation. However, if God is saving us then we can truly say we are being saved and know that He who has begun a good work in us will complete it. Philippians 1:6 There's a marked difference between those who are trying to "be" a Christian and those in whom it is the Spirit of God doing the work.

For example if your a Murderer and you repent and you are forgiven... then you continue to murder people have you truly repented?

    Ephesians and elsewhere persuaded me that my salvation was ONLY because of the mercy and grace of my Creator and a gift from Him and not due to anything I did (but accept His gift) so I need not (should not, could not) boast, --but now I realize that I CAN boast if by my works I remain saved and don't lose my salvation ... oh my, and I thought pride was to be avoided ... I can be proud if I don't lose my salvation :)

      Edward Russell agreed, but it’s not our works that saves us, it’s our faith through grace, a gift from the Lord. Good works is evidence of our faith, something that naturally occurs because God lives in us and sanctifies us, but it’s not what determines our salvation. We just have to examine if our faith is truly in Christ because even demons believe in the name of Jesus.

      @Edward Russell those verses was for Israel, they had to sacrifice animals and show their works with Faith. After the cross, its all about "Faith" to be "Saved" so in our Church age, we have Faith and Faith alone but you show your works "after" you've been saved, by the Fruits that we produce in Christ🙏

      Romans 4:5 and Ephesians 2:8-9 all speak about justification of faith. It’s not salvation in the context of its entirety. The salvation that is being implied there is salvation from the wrath of God, of which all believers are said to have been freed from after they believe in the Lord Jesus Christ. Justification of faith is just the prelude to your salvation (John 1:12). It’s not salvation in the fulness of its essence.

    It is not Biblical. There are plenty of warnings about being aware of losing one's salvation. Most do not want to believe this because this would hold one accountable. God gives us the gift but we can reject it.

      If we can not reject God's gift we have no free will.
      Like say "Once a sinner always a sinner", makes no sense does it. It damns you with no possible way out. OSAS forces your salvation with no way out. Many reject God till death. OSAS believers want those people in heaven with those that excepted God.
      I would be suprised if they asked God to allow demons into heaven because they believe.

      I agree with Libertarian. And also say that denominations should stop inventing doctrines, there is no such thing as "the church age", that doesn't exist. Also the book of Acts says the church was in the wilderness with Moses.

    For anyone thinking Hebrews and Romans were contradictory, Hebrew 6:4-6 was talking about spiritual maturity. Paul said that if you’ve learned and seen everything and even tasted the Holy Spirit, THEN you fall away, it’s dang near impossible for you to repent because your heart is so hard at that point. God won’t just NOT accept people back. He’s talking about you making the choice to walk away and not looking back.

      it is obvious that if a name has been blotted out or removed then on that day it will not be found.
      this is but a fraction of the verses that stand against osas. but people will hunt for anything to deny these scriptures and change them so that they do not stand against their beloved osas.
      they would rather find ways around what the Scriptures plainly say so they can keep their man-made doctrine rather than to believe the Word of God.
      because to admit that your doctrine is wrong is to admit that you have been deceived by those you LOVE, and that prospect is too painful to radical to even consider, pride will not let millions admit they were deceived, they would rather maintain the status quo, not make waves, not ruffle any feathers and walk as an enemy of the Cross than to admit they have been deceived.
      I was a Baptist once but I left over osas. God did not allow me to become indoctrinated into that heresy.
      when you have to find ways to deny scripture to save your man-made doctrine from them, that should throw up a huge red flag, but it does not because people become blinded to the truth to keep their lies.
      so many people have the rose-colored glasses of their Pastor and denomination on so that when the truth is right in front of their eyes, those glasses filter out that truth so that it is not perceived.
      the very Word of God has to be wrong so that the doctrine can stand because we know the doctrine is true and cannot be undone therefore the scriptures standing against their doctrine are WRONG. they prefer to accuse God's Word of being wrong rather than their doctrine.
      the emotional bond of love for the Pastor and denomination they got saved in blinds them to the Truth of God's Word in favor of the doctrine they have learned from those that would never lie to them.
      one of their favorite tactics is to claim that you are not rightly dividing the Word of Truth because if you were then you would believe as they do so you must be wrongly dividing the Word of Truth because only believing in their doctrine is rightly dividing the Word of Truth.

    This makes me so sad. Deeply sad. Im sure this chap means well, God doesn't make mistakes. He draws you, He saves you. Your secure, your hidden in christ. If we fully understood the cost of what Jesus went rough we realise the value of us, to God, how much we are loved, and wanted. God will never reject a genuine Christian. Impossible.

      I don’t think he’s trying to say that God will reject genuine Christians. Genuine Christians have faith in our Lord and saviour Jesus Christ and would of course love Jesus. John 14:15 Jesus said those who love Him will keep his commandments. If you’re a genuine Christian you will love Jesus and keep his commandments. You can’t profess with your mouth that you love Jesus then continue to live in the world. That’s called being lukewarm and you will be spat out Revelations 3:16. Yes one can be saved but if they chose to not remain in Jesus and regress back into the world they will be cut off and thrown into the fire John 15:6. So if we don’t remain in Christ we can very well lose our salvation. Faith alone in Christ is enough because it should lead you to bear good fruits (works). Faith and works cannot be separated. Just like Paul said we must all work out our salvation with fear and trembling Philippians 2:12.

    Great word spoken here with the book. Clear to see. I was once heavy into grace as an excuse to sin. I was miserable. No more.....I have chosen Christ as my savior. Not a doctrine. You know......being in Christ brings much joy. I do not want to mock, fall, or walk away.

      Hi. It is absolutely true, 'once saved, always saved.' Remember that salvation is to know Christ, "This is eternal life, that you know God and Jesus Christ Whom He has sent." A person who falls away never knew the Lord, as it is written, "Love never fails." If 'love' fails, it was never really love in the first place; if someone denies the Lord permanently, then they were never saved in the first place; if a person loves sin but professes Christ, they are a tare among the wheat, a wolf in sheep's clothing, a false convert.
      Jesus said that whoever believes in Him will have rivers of living water bubbling up within them. Do you know the Lord? Are you seated in the heavenlies with Christ? Does the Holy Spirit bear witness with your spirit that you are a child of God? Remember that salvation is a personal encounter with the Lord. Simply confessing or going to church does nothing unless you are filled with the Holy Spirit. Ask and you shall receive! If you are not certain about your salvation, you probably are not saved! Jesus Christ is the light of the world.

To gain salvation, a person must be filled with the Holy Spirit. Jesus said, "Whoever believes in Me will have rivers of living water bubbling inside them to eternal life." Conversely, if a person does not have an encounter with God, if they are not filled with the Holy Spirit, if they do not have those rivers of living water, neither are they saved.
      Moreover, Jesus said, "Whoever loves Me will keep My Commandments." Many Christians misunderstand the Lord. That is, it is not a guilt trip as in, "If you love me - prove it!" Instead, it is a 'cause and effect.' Just like the sun lights the morning sky, so those who know the Lord breathe every breath to the glory of God. In fact, those who have been born again have total freedom. As it is written, "All things are lawful..." for those who believe. That is, I am totally free to do whatever I want, whenever I want. If you disagree, I will be very concerned for you. That is because those who are saved have total freedom, but they live only to do the will of the Father. Total freedom means freedom to seek the Lord with all their heart, freedom to give all to Christ.

That said, your comment smacks of someone who has not yet had a personal encounter with God; otherwise you would understand what freedom in Christ is.       It’s truly sad. Are there people who have never known God and think they do? Of course. I was one of them. But that’s not the case for everybody. There are people who have known God and have strayed away. I also did that earlier in my walk and I saw what it was like to start to get entangled again to what I was freed from. And that’s according to the Bible and what it says. To presume that if u went away u were never actually a Christian with real faith is not biblical at all. It’s just a human concept that people keep spurting out so that they can remain consistent with their wrong ideas and doctrines. People need to really experience and know the Lord not just know about him through knowledge in their head. We have to judge correctly through the Spirit not through human reasoning and outward appearances.

In that parable, you have the (older) son who has been with his father everyday, yet still doesn't know Him well enough to know that all his father's possessions belong to him.     How do you define someone who is falling away? If someone can lose his or her salvation, does that mean that we’ll never know for sure we can go to heaven because there’s always a possibility of ‘falling away’ right before we die. If someone may lose salvation, where is the joy of being a Christian?

    Will God complete ONLY some of the good work He started? Not everything He started?
    If we are truly God's children, we can be like the prodigal son, we can always come back to our Father's home but only if we are His real sons and daughter's. Have we been truly saved?

    I think I may be doomed. I have always struggled with faith and been in and put of church over my whole life. I've struggled with unbelief and still do. I've had both terrifying and beautiful experiences some of which have made me question what really happened to me and run away looking for answers from atheist and antitheist arguements. I've been baptized twice, once into a fundamentalist type church and once into a pentecostal type church. To be honest I still am unsure about anything in the nature of reality and whats going on. I wish I could come to a lasting faith, but perhaps it's too late for me. I really don't know. I remember the feeling of the Holy Spirit washing through me.. well that's what I thought it was but still struggle to believe and hold fast. The world is getting so dark now, I don't know what to do really

      My suggestion would be to get yourself a King James Bible (yes, it does matter which translation you read and study from) and dive into the Word with a humble heart and call upon the name Jesus and He will lead you and guide you.
      There are multitudes of false teachings that are one click away, and Satan is taking full advantage of social media and a generation that is relying on others to interpret the Scriptures for them!
      This man is so unbelievably incorrect in "his" understanding of every single passage that he used to express his own personal beliefs. Jesus shed His blood and it was sufficient to cover our sins! It is not up to us as to whether or not "we" can prove ourselves worthy. None is worthy! Focus on Jesus; especially the name Jesus. Don't buy into the attack on His name that is permeating social media. I have been in a backsliding situation where I had a face to face encounter with a familiar spirit (demon if you will) and it took everything in my being to say Jesus, but once I was able to utter His precious name, it fled and was seen no more! There is a reason that there are so many who choose to use other names for our Redeemer and tell you that the name Jesus is not what we are to call Him. "There is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved"
      Read Acts 4:1-12 for full context! God bless and I hope that this brings you comfort.

      Pray to God to impress you with the correct interpretations when you read his word. This life is a battle and we need to walk continually with God and ask Him into our life. We don't fail when we remain grafted into Him. 1 Corinthians 10:13 says there is no temptation that Christ has not faced that is common to man and He will provide a way of escape so you can endure. When we do fail, Hebrews 7:25 says Christ always lives to intercede for us. Ezekiel 36:26-27 says that God will give us a new heart and put his Spirit within us and cause us to walk in His statues. Over and over the Bible shows us that God loves so much and has given us the greatest gift, that of salvation. But, with God we have freedom to leave Him and that gift at any time; the evil one offers no such freedom to leave. Remember that everybody's conversion is different, for some it is earth shaking, for others, the quiet realization of what the most powerful being in the universe has done for them. The feelings we experience at conversion are not a barometer of how effective the conversion is.

    Notice that the Bible says when the believer sins, we have an advocate with the father. That is something different from the unbelievers who sin. And either you believe that Christ paid the penalty for our sins or you don’t.

      @@BokaLokaToka What it sounds like is the creator of the world and all it contains giving His creation a free gift through the death and resurrection of His son, Jesus Christ. So, if your works cannot save you they surely cannot cause you to lose your salvation. But let's be clear. Jesus said, if you love me you will keep my commandments. Those who are saved follow the savior. Salvation is not a license to sin. It is a cause to praise and worship our redeemer.

    It says in Romans that we've been set free from sin to become slaves of righteousness. When you are born again you gain a distaste for sinful things even if you stumble and fall or have struggles in your life your desire will always be towards righteousness. I spent many years backslidden. But I did not give up my faith in Jesus. There's always hope of repentance and being healed. The Bible says God is married to the backslider. The only way to lose the presence of the Holy Spirit is to stop believing in him. Jesus said judgement comes because of unbelief. Because that's the only sin that God cannot forgive. And if we say we have no sin we are a liar but if we confess our sins God is faithful and just to forgive us our sins.

      No I think backsliding temporarily is not losing your salvation but a permanent lack of faith and moving away from God means you lose salvation and not abided in Christ
      Remember God knows who will be saved in the end

      @@kM-ij2ly hello, I disagree. When we are sealed with the Holy Spirit, it’s eternal. If we could lose our salvation it would mean Lord Jesus sacrifice wasn’t enough, and that’s not true. Salvation is not based on our actions, that would make salvation works based and it’s definitely not. What we do after we are saved will be judged at the judgment seat of Christ for rewards or loss of rewards.

      And I also know that Jesus imputed himself for us, and succours those of us believers of the gospel of the dispensation of grace, who fall into Satan's powerful temptations, which we sometimes can't resist because of the infused infirmity of the sin nature in our flesh, but in that, keeping God's Commandments, (IN OUR MINDS AND HEARTS) guides our conscience and keeps us aware of what's not pleasing to God rendering us uncomfortable and regretful, knowing we have done something that was not pleasing to him.

    I agree with you completely. But there is a bit of a problem with the verses you showed. One says: "And they also, it they do not continue in unbelief, will be grafted in, for God is able to graft them in again." The other earlier verse: "For it is impossible for those once enlightened...to renew them again to repentance..." Any ideas on how to make those two verses work in harmony?

    Being a partaker of the Holy Spirit doesn't indicate they were saved. The whole book of Hebrews talks about belief versus unbelief. The partakers of the Holy Spirit are those that have had the revelation of Christ by the Holy Spirit and rejected it.

I think many start with a presupposition about Hebrews 6 and hinge their interpretation on a single phrase or phrases without examining what the Hebrew writer was trying to communicate which is apostasy does not happen outside the Christian community but within.

      ajgYT09 you are welcome to disagree. "Once saved, always saved" dotrine teaches people they have a license to sin, which is not the case. Read Ezekiel 18. Many believers never grow beyond a certain point because they don't truly love God with all their heart. They believe in ceremonial Christianity and have weekend/weakened Warrior faith.

    Once saved, always saved! I was 6 when I was saved, 8 when I was baptized. Addiction took hold of my life in my 20s and I denounced my faith. For 10 years I hated Christians and I hated the church. I did not believe in God and saw Christianity as a way to control the masses. I had periods of hating God, not believing in God at all to just believing in some kind of higher power but thinking the Bible was a total sham. Bottom line though was that I wanted to do what I wanted to do and not experience guilt or shame over it. Didn't work lol.
    God brought me back right before I got sober and now AA teaches me how to have a healthy relationship with God. I ran from God for 10 years but I never lost my salvation even though I didn't believe in it at the time.
    *God created time and therefore is not bound by it! When I gave my life to him at 6 years old, He forgave me of every sin- past, present and Future including the sin of denying Him before others. He knew when I was 6 years old that I was going to denounce him for 10 years.
    I know I meant it in my childhood when I became a Christian. I know my name was sealed in the book of Life when I was six years old.
    I prayed the refiners prayer when I was 18 right before I started using. That's a prayer where we ask God to draw out our impurities. I had no idea what I was in for when I prayed that prayer. There was a lot of junk in my soul that I was not aware of that needed to be brought to the surface. My faith is stronger today because I walked away from God for 10 years. God has used my mess and turned it into a message. I loved God and served God with all my heart in my childhood, teen and early adult years. I decided later that I was not a Christian anymore but because no one could pluck me from his hand, including me, God never let me go. I was His.
    It seems like people almost forget that God exists outside of time. We see our sins and salvation in a timeline whereas God already knows our entire story. He knew before he made me that I was going to rebel and blaspheme his name. Rebellion is part of my walk with God, and I was already forgiven for it 2,000 years ago on the cross. Putting things into a timeline, I was forgiven for that sin at 6 years old.

      @risingStar You need to read Hebrews in context. It's talking about people who taste of the Spirit but never get saved. It's talking about the Jews being given the gospel and being warned about the dangers of ignoring it and going back to Judaism.
