I'm actually pretty sure that kaveri was never going to be a fighter engine, it was more like a tech demonstrator like lca navy mk1, won't be used anywhere but will be used to devise a better naval fighter. Edit- forgot to mention, nice background music, last one was annoying
DRDO and GTRE should recruit the best engineers in the country ensuring them a hefty guaranteed pay plus some contract sort of deal and convince government to allocate a good sum for the project.

Would it not be easier to interface a generator to the engine and run the engine at the most optimal speed and load?. Then use a motor to drive the props?. Electric drive I would guess. Will also use this as power source and charge batteries in-between.

The turbo jet doesn't directly drive the propellor shaft. It drives another turbine called a power turbine. Axial compressors are still optimum for the gas generator engine.

Very good information and helpful updates. Marine engines have high bye pass ratio as compared to fighter jet engines. Secondly it requires constant and continuous ratings at all conditions. I think KMGT is failing expectations there, otherwise it would be ideal powerplant to power small frigates, corvettes and off shore patrol vessels. Thanx for information. Jai Hind.
Kaveri is a very small engine, even when compared to aero engines. New materials for core has been made if Kaveri is to be followed. Sustaining shaft/thrust won't be a problem with the new material. + Kaveri can be scaled up to an equivalent size as other GT engine. Meaning more power, better than the ones we are using in Talwar or Kamorta Class.

Not just Naval derivative. There was news of having a derivative to power trains too. If I remember well, BHEL too collaborated on it.

Kaveri can be used to make all electric drive ship. Which Navy is looking for its future ships. Why cant give it a try for a small TD ship?
