🌟 Preserving History at Mapperton House: Help Bring the American Heiress Exhibition to Life! 🌟 Hello, dear supporters! I'm Julie Montagu, Viscountess Hinchingbrooke, and as many of you know, I've stumbled upon an extraordinary treasure at Mapperton House in West Dorset - the largest American heiress collection of letters, diaries, and journals in the world! Now, with the help of over 25 virtual volunteers worldwide, we're on a mission to digitize and transcribe these precious documents.
However, there's a crucial need: Mapperton House lacks an archivist, and these invaluable pieces of history need proper conservation. I've taken it upon myself to learn the delicate art of repairing precious books, letters, and journals, each with its own unique story and many with small tears. In a nut shell, say hello to Mapperton's new archivist, me! But here's where you come in!
I'm reaching out to you on www.buymeacoff... to raise £4,000 ($5,000) for essential archival equipment and exhibition supplies. This includes Conservation quality plan chest drawer cabinets, a Commercial quality dehumidifier, dress displays, hat mounts, display pillows, portable boxes, book cloths, wheat paste, and various conservation tools.
What's in it for you? For those of you who generously donate three or more cups of coffee, you'll have exclusive access to the American Heiress exhibition this summer (1st May 2024 - 28th September 2024) free of charge. Check out the opening times at Mapperton.com.
🌟 Can't Join Us in Person? No Worries - We've Got You Covered! 🌟 If you can't make it to the exhibition in person, don't worry - I've got something special just for you! You'll receive a personalized tour of the exhibition led by yours truly. Your exclusive private link to this virtual tour will be sent directly to you by the end of April, right before the exhibition opens its doors! But that's not all!
For the amazing souls who contribute 15 cups of coffee, you'll receive:
✨ A personalized tour of the exhibition - either in person or virtually (your choice).
✨ A beautiful pack of Alberta postcards (5 in total).
✨ A wonderful pack of Alberta's 7 drink recipes found in her 120-year-old cookbook - all designed by my talented sister-in-law Polly. These goodies will be sent to you via Royal Mail once the final mockups are perfected. Trust me; they're going to be even more beautiful than the attached images - we're still tweaking!
Your support means the world to me and Alberta and plays a vital role in preserving this unique slice of history. Join us on this incredible journey, and let's make the American Heiress exhibition a reality! Thank you for being a part of this historical endeavor. With gratitude, Julie Montagu, Viscountess Hinchingbrooke

Viscount and Viscountess Hinchingbrooke 👑👑
You couldn’t pay me to jump in thst cold dark water.
Same 😷
To each their own. They have cleaned this pool countless times, it is a natural pool, so it's going to almost always look like this. We have one where i live that is fed by a creek in the mountains. The water always moves, but it's green. 😅
😂😂😂
I wonder if the kids or husband swim in there?
You could pay me; but it would need to be a lot!
Glad to see Nestor is alive and well after 4 days/4 nights! Thanks for the update on the turtle, eagles, and beavers! Mapperton is a great place with great people!
Turtle owner here. Is the water is below 10° Celsius? If so your terrapin is most likely in brumination, which is a state like hibernation. They don't truly or fully fall asleep (like a bear) but do stop feeding & their body systems & movement slows down. They'll find a space to sort of wedge themselves in & are less active. That could be why you're not seeing it surface or bask. Id suggest checking places it could be hiding, roots or any places it could secure itself. Or wait til the water warms up a bit when it will be more active.
Spurtle, Woody and Twiggy still on the lam! The suspense is killing me.
I’m guessing Spurtle is in some stage of hibernation depending on the temperature.
I enjoyed looking at the Woods, Hills and Bluebells! Wonderful sheep, lambs and cattle! Thank you!
Can't wait to see the eagles restored again very exciting what a talented man.😊
I got excited & thought they were back & repaired 😊
Julie you are very brave to get into that cold water 😅. I love seeing you spending quality time with your son.
Nestor must be thinking how weird and quirky his mother is! She is lovely and sweet and turned out to be a great aristocratic mom and estate holder.
Just love Julie. She is so delightful and the best thing that has happened to Mapperton😘
Utterly bonkers in the loveliest of ways 😂
I say YES to everything on the agenda and all the sellable treats you might offer. Love this channel and family ❤
These are such wonderful videos! I can’t wait until the eagles come home!
I don't know why you're so worried about Splurtle. A more magnificent turtle habitat he likely has ever imagined.
I am sure they are attached to their turtle.
Hopefully he was not a terrestrial turtle and can swim.
@@l.m.2404 they're aquatic, don't worry
What a good sport Nester is.
Rather nice to see the 'back room' and an inside glimpse of what it takes to run a cafe and store 'stuff'.
I've seen people add ramps to their floating pond plantings so the critters have an easy climb up.
Julie?? I do not recall seeing your Greenhouse. are you willing to show us? It looks amazing. I still don't understand how you do the cold immersion. bless your soul❤
So glad Nestor was relieved of his post. I am sure your beloved turtle will stay warm throughout the cold months and show his head at the perfect time.
How fun to take a gander through the stores.
I really enjoy the shots of the grounds. So lovely
Nestor is (obviously) handsome but he has a charm and presence well beyond his years. Genes + parenting. Congratulations! Oh, and did I mention patience with his parents' antics? But I guess that falls under charm!
Every time I hear "Mapperton Eagles" it sounds like an American High School Football team 😂😂😂
😂😂🤣😂🤣😂👍
I would be terrified to swim in any dark water.
Snakes?
Most lakes and ponds tend to be dark, not to mention which I am, the oceans.
You two make the perfect couple for taking care of this fine house and estate. Each of you have talents that complement each the other’s.
All the very best with the Eagle restoration, they are beautiful. Just a suggestion, (hope you don't mind) perhaps consider using a different UK brand of hot chocolate other than Cadbury in your shop. Highgrove Organic Hot Chocolate is an excellent product and seems to fit the Mapperton brand better. There's others.
Highgrove as in the Kings organic farm? I bet it is good🤗
Just looked it up…. Sold at Fortnums…. & yes… King Charles😀
Most likely Cadbury is their sponsor….that would be the reason why.
Mike White is a very good friend of mine. He is a very skilled man. Your Eagles are in good hands.
Julie, you're such a trooper!
Nestor was hilarious. Thank you Nestor!! Julie is so brave getting in the water with a turtle, at least she warmed the water up a little 🤣. Oh someone needs to do an emergency carrot run 🪤. I hope you are able to find both beavers. Do you think they remember the traps and are avoiding them this time? How smart are beavers?
You are addicting to watch! Love all the creatures you care about and the environment. Wonderful seeing the hard work you both put into your Mansion. ❤😊
I’m glad Nestor got to go in and get warm. Don’t think it was covered why Julie can’t swim in the pool. Because of the turtle? Hopefully the beavers are back!
She didn't say why? Right?
@@alekxa90 I didn’t hear anything that explains it.
I wondered that, too. I hope it wasn't just click bait and we fell for it
@@FlashintheBand86well that was the reason I clicked…soooo yeah, I’m a bit disappointed. 🫤
CLICKBAIT...and you fell for it! 😂😂😂
You have to have true grit to swim in that pool! I couldn’t do it. Much Love
I loved the attic tour. Very cozy haha thank you for sharing the not so glamorous!
Beautiful Arial shots of the pool. I ove the music you edited in too. I know it's a pool, but Julie is really brave swimming in a pool that you can't see to the bottom!😆
Yes it is so beautiful and historical. She is brave..lol but the cold would keep me out for sure.
I would have never put even my toe in that nasty pool
Oh Julie, you're so brave! Not knowing what's under/in that dark water is creepy. I'd do it, but with trepidation😮
Goodness Julie I know you are disappointed. So sorry you are not going to get to enjoy your pool. Maybe the problem can be fixed.Send my best wishes it can. Hello to Luke and the family and everyone at Mapperton.🤗
always enjoy the tour/viewing of the grounds...and the search of the beavers, etc
The turtle is probably fine, but if you attach a flat board it will be able to climb.
Nestor's sense of humor has emerged as so much like his dad's. Both obviously enjoy keeping Julie laughing. :)
You’re one gutsy gal. 🥶
Love the commitment with the Nester in the same clothes
Can't imagine how cold must be that pond water but when i was in Sheffield I could not find any ice so chilled the bottle of champaign with a tub filled with cold water from the tap!
Oh thank you so much for the info of the eagles. 🦅 I was wondering if they could be repaired. Fingers crossed they will be on their place of glory
u guys are really cool! im so glad i found your channel today ~ danka blessings! 🥰
Thank you so much!!
ooh yes fudge, covered in choc too 🥰
Yes to Mapperton fudge!!
Omg Julie was serious about swimming in there 😂
Enjoy watching the updates
Wonderful news about the Eagles, and I think new gates might be needed to compliment the newly restored eagles. Am I correct about this suggestion???
Y'all could set up some game cameras ( Spurtle Cam) that would take pictures when there is movement (Spurtle).
May 2, is our 43 wedding anniversary, visiting the UK would be an excellent anniversary gift!
good job nester
Mapperton,this is perfect picture- 💪
curious about where the Montagu lead eagles were before the Montagu / Sandwich family bought Mapperton House in the 1950s.
Use pond dye to "shade" the water preventing algea growth. There are different colors and is safe for people and wildlife
Time to don some gear and find Spurtle. If there's no way to climb out, I'm surprised he hasn't climbed up on to one of the islands. These creatures can drown so I'll be relieved when he's found. What patience Nestor has being on lookout for four days. He's a good sport! The eagles will be a welcome sight once back up on their pedestals and having a celebration is fitting indeed. What an accomplishment considering their former condition!
He’s probably brumating at the bottom of your pool. You’ll probably see him sunning on your islands once it warms up. 😊
I like Nestor! I would buy fudge!
You can get a large fish trap and bait it with dead fish you'll catch him right away (tips from Texas lol)
Butterscotch fudge
Did I miss WHY you can't swim in the pool anymore? Glad to see you've located at least one of the beavers, they are on an adventure again. lol
Julie swimming in a shower cap😂
grear video thanks! this is crazy though... i just learned that im distantly related to luke, and he looks like my moms whole family in one person
I really enjoyed today’s video. Maybe we are all ready for spring
Not for a million dollars! 😂 Snakes?
But, for a missing turtle ... understandable.
Hilarious! Nestor is awesome. 😀
poor nester 😂
I hope the entire pillars for the eagles get restored instead of just the tops, just to make sure that they will stand for a long time.
Nooooo. After all your work love😭🙏🇨🇦
The only way to kill off all the algae and get it even close to being able to swim in that pool you know that its going to have to be completely redone, stripped, re-plumed, relined, concreted , plastered etc with proper filtering and circulation pumps to be a functional swimming pool other wise it just going to be a stagnant mosquito infested Pond . good luck
You couldn't pay me enough to swim in that muck!!!
Yessss make fudge so it can be ordered online x
Fudge is so popular in any tourist area.
Try Barton Springs in Austin TX to compare!
I really think that you should get a GNestor shaped Gnome to while away the hours on one of your planters. He could keep Spurtle company. Love your channel x
Nestor is adorable! lol
I thought turtles hibernated in winter.
I believe I’m a Patreon for Mapperton as well as AV, but I can’t access the video of yesterday’s Mapperton Live. ?
You attract beavers with the sound of falling water as it triggers their natural instinct to build near falling water. This why they constantly block water culverts. You'll find them near a small stream with a slight waterfall.
Turtle probably buried himself in one of the floating gardens ❣️
Julie nice video.
I would love to know the temperature of the water and air when you swim! It would help me embrace the experience vicariously!
There’s no way on this earth I’d consider swimming in a pool I couldn’t see the bottom of. Then again where I live you must be cautious of gators and snakes and yes these both have been spotted in my pool. Thankfully all good since it’s full of good ole chemicals and clear as can be. What originally looked like a stick or branch was definitely a baby gator. Thank you chlorine ! 🥴😍
I wish the other kids would be on Julie and Luke's show.
Might be at college.
Mapperton fudge let's go 😊
How can you sim in that????
Maybe you should put a GPS tracker on those beavers so you can find them when they escape
Nester, don't stand for this treatment!
I’ve been looking for that kind of fair isle sweater Julie for years (the eagle repair section).
Where did you get? Brand? Thrifted? Thanks for letting me know ❤🎉
Sadly, can't remember but believe it was thrifted indeed!
It'a make called Eribe and I highly doubt it was thrifted as v expensive. They sell them in House of Bruar in Scotland which I think Julie may have visited - I bought mine (different colourway) online from Aspiga.
Is it possible to convert the pool to a saltwater?! They’ve converted many pools in the US from chlorinated systems.
best option would be converting that into a natural pool, wouldn't take much
You know turtles and terrapins are different things?! Which one is he?
Are you rebuilding the gates too? They are looking a little worse for wear.
Hello

Amy found where the Montague’s hide their skeletons, on the top shelf of the storage room. 😅
turtles do hibernate in cold weather
No one is going to mention the skeletons in the storeroom? 😂
They hibernate under things in the winter
Sorry, my comment about the Woods, Hills and Bluebells was on the previous vlog and it jumped to the 18th Century Swimming Pool.
Julie, the vest and ear warmer you are wearing are fantastic! Are they homemade or did you buy them somewhere? Also, thank you for advertisitng La Chameau, I didn't get you discount but I appreciate the quality.
Eribe is the make. Sold by a few places - Aspiga, House of Bruar (both have websites you can buy them from).
❤ from Pennsylvania
The lead scares me to death. Replace with bronze.
Splurge needs a Myrtle?
Every video with Nestor involved is better.
Paused video briefly to nip over to gofundme.
🎉Have you ever considered a saltwater pool with filter? It wouldn't be conducive to wildlife but at least it would be nice and clean for swimming. I am no pool expert, but l have friends who have a saltwater pool and they love it.
My husband is a pool builder. We have a salt water pool. It’s salty like a teardrop. Best is to fibreline the pool with dark grey gel cote to reflect the sky, keep the natural look. Build steps into the side. There’s probably groundwater feeding into the pool. If the pool appears to top up after rains, then there is a crack. Fibreglass lining an old pool is best.
@@rolo4945 They drained the pool and repaired the cracks a year or two ago.
@@bryanspindle4455 I remember that, but wasn't it something like it didn't do much good (as in, the basic problem remained)?
@@thekingsdaughter4233Well the algae growth was the main problem aside from some major leaks. They were advised that the floating artificial water plant islands would keep the algae in check, but obviously that didn't work. It is a huge pool and l don't see how anything but a mechanical filtration system and either chemicals or salt would solve the problem. My cousin has a small in ground pool that is filtered and chlorinated and it still has algae accumulation on the walls and bottom that has to be vacuumed regularly. That would be a major task with a pool of the size of the Mapperton pool. Especially with rough, uneven stone walls. If it were me l would build a smaller swimming pool that would be easier to maintain. I know Julie likes to keep everything as natural as possible, but it isn't always practical for your needs. BTW there is a hospital in Norfolk, Virginia named The Children's Hospital Of The King's Daughters. 😊
