Vanguard Growth ETF (VUG) has done great in recent years, but I think Humphrey has given some good picks here. Regarding VUG I would caution you about performance chasing especially since the valuations here seem very high based on historical averages. Additionally interest rates have been heading higher due to inflation concerns, inflation makes future profits not as valuable especially for growth stocks with high valuations counting on profits many years into the future. In any case nobody can really see into the future, I would definitely recommend that you research "performance chasing in investing" though.
if you’re just starting, it may not be a bad idea to begin with an S&P 500 index fund since it gives you such broad exposure out of the gates, but remember that you can buy multiple funds to build a portfolio that fits you, I've put in quite an effort into VIGAX, VXUS, VFTAX and my portfolio has grown over 230% in a year just hit the 7 figure mark...
@@donaldlocher2537 There are plenty of options out there if you're looking for the best index funds for beginners, but Vanguard funds stand out among the competition....
You misquoted the inception date return of the Vanguard Growth and Income fund. It has underperformed the S&P 500. Also, I believe Value has shown to outperform Growth given a longer investing timeline.
very nice overview. A few points. The equivalant of VFIAX in Fidelity is FXAIX, not FNILX. The trick with FNILX is that Fidelity is not bound to follow SP500 and there is always some money market percentage which fidelity sells around to compensate for the zero fee. I have both but i lean more towards FXAIX then FNILX due to its SP500 bonding nature.
Buy a good cross section of an economy and you should do well over the long term. The market wil be high in 10 to 20 years, and significantly higher in 30. It's almost impossible for a company with no debt to go bankrupt.the U.S. is about 50% of the global market place, Pay yourself first. It's time in the market, not timing the market. last year I invested 100 grand in the S&P 500/ an allocation fund (with the help of my advisor Rita Wildrin Mora of course) and made 370k, but guess what? I put it back and traded with her again and now I’m rounding up close to a million.

Hi, what is the purpose/advantage of investing in a Vanguard Index fund as opposed to just purchasing its ETF equivalent, since ETFs do not require a $3000 initial investment?
So looking at the historical returns of the VQNPX vs. the S&P 500, the VQNPX outperforms by an extremely small margin. Considering the higher expense ratio of the VQNPX, would the S&P 500 index fund put more money in your pocket at the end of the day or would you still make out better with the VQNPX? The maths aren't my strong suit.
Can you recommend index funds that pay good dividends? Also a big question, what can happen to stocks if we have dollar crashes/reset or hyperinflation?
Nice video! I got auto invest on VFIAX and VTSAX. Question though: is there any real benefit to investing the $3,000 for the Vanguard fund other than getting more shares? Or is it perfectly fine to get ETFs over time?

If you open a Roth Ira at Vanguard do you have to have $3000 for each individual index fund or just re $1000 to buy in that you can spread however you want?
Hey Humphrey, first off thanks for the informative video. I did have a couple of questions: You mentioned that there are ETF version of the VFIAX and VVIAX. What are the differences between the ETF version and the original version besides the $3000 minimum? What incentives do these companies have to offer a different version of the "same thing"? Thanks!
no minimum and they trade on the market as securities, rather than once a day like index funds, i think they are just doing it for more accessability. Good question though, i need to do more research around that.
For total market, you omitted the Schwab Total Market Index Fund, SWTSX with 0.03% expense ratio and one dollar minimum investment it beats Vanguard on cost and minimum investment. They also offer an S&P 500 index, SWPPX which is also cheaper than Vanguard at 0.02% expense ratio with one dollar minimum.
Please ignore spam/bot comments, thx for the kind comments though. It wouldnt make a HUGE difference, as its just a few dollars per $10,000 invested per year.

Etfs best way to invest
@@elka-bs8590 are etf’s the same as index funds?
@@streetrat123 For the most part, yes. The few major advantages of ETFs are:
- You can buy/sell them at various times in the market (pre-market, market, and post-market hours).
- Usually have lower expense ratios than Index mutual funds, but Fidelity and Schwab have some exceptions to that norm.
- Tax advantages (Capital gains tax) in regular brokerage accounts. Vanguard Index mutual funds are the exception due to a legal patent.

VTI and VXUS are a great way to build a "lazy portfolio" for a Traditional or Roth IRA, as well as an investment HSA and 401k (if your work has that). You basically get the world's stock market in two funds. Other funds and/or individual stocks can serve as "cherries on top."

If you get 100% returns like last year it's totally irrelevant. Would you rather have 100% returns with a 0.75 expense ratio. Or get 10% returns with a 0.03% expense ratio. That's an easy one.

Right, you would keep adding to VOO or VTSAX for example.

Half of my HSA is in VTI and it’s invested automatically every month.
What do you think about VUG, I’m planning to start investing in it rather than VOO
I believe VUG is the etf version of VQNPX no?
Vanguard Growth ETF (VUG) has done great in recent years, but I think Humphrey has given some good picks here. Regarding VUG I would caution you about performance chasing especially since the valuations here seem very high based on historical averages. Additionally interest rates have been heading higher due to inflation concerns, inflation makes future profits not as valuable especially for growth stocks with high valuations counting on profits many years into the future. In any case nobody can really see into the future, I would definitely recommend that you research "performance chasing in investing" though.
NOOO! STOP! Don't drink the milk! It's better to put the milk back into the cow/herd if you want to become a rich farmer.
if you’re just starting, it may not be a bad idea to begin with an S&P 500 index fund since it gives you such broad exposure out of the gates, but remember that you can buy multiple funds to build a portfolio that fits you, I've put in quite an effort into VIGAX, VXUS, VFTAX and my portfolio has grown over 230% in a year just hit the 7 figure mark...

very nice overview.

Your question is to vague.

For IRA/ROTH, who help you to disburse at 71 years old ?
Mutual fund you can buy any dollar amount. ETF are usually individual shares.
Depending on the year, you could make out bette rtih VQNPX. But S&P500 index fund is probably just safer longer term.
Why didn't you include Charles Schwab?
