The reason stealth goes up when you travel is because when you travel you have a chance to become attacked and as you're traveling your character is trying to stealth past those encounters, leveling up stealth.
The actual reason it goes up is because stealth is rolled against every enemy, whether or not you try to, so inevitably the skill will increase anyways.
It's actually that skills increase not immediately once you get enough skill xp for the next level, but after you rest/enough time passes. If your stealth skill has enough xp to level up and then you travel or rest for a few hours, your stealth skill will go up
"I would talk about the main quest, but I never played it" Pretty much sums the game up perfectly. I've put hundreds of hours into this game, and the furthest I ever got was about halfway through the main quest. Then I became a vampire, interesting thing about becoming a vampire, you die, then become a badass. So basically the game is over, cause you're dead. That kinda sucks, but I think being able to run so fast you literally can't see where your going, hurdle city walls and murder absolutely anything you encounter with minimal effort is a fair trade off.

Yes they act like the Terminators in Skynet (another bethesda game) and just ignore any danger in front of them. Very excusable if they are animals or monsters but not humans that would try to avoid damage. I think there are two ways to enjoy this: play it as strategy sim where you expect everything to act dumb because they know they are sent to be cannon fodder and ordered to charge you like it was a forced move by their commander, or play it at high speed like an arcade action game. IE doom and wolfenstein but with swords and magic. The latter is more fun but relies on player skill. You actually give a crap about whether you are in range. The slower method is more tactical so you want to get it all over and done with quickly and take joy in the knowledge the enemy wants to die earlier by walking toward you. (increases the slow pace of the game a bit) I think I remember always fighting on horseback using two handed weapons whenever I was outdoors. The longer reach of claymore and two handed weapons means myo damage and the horse moving faster means dodging by circle strafing enemies is effective in avoid melee and ranged attack. (they still have to target you despite stats being a factor in whether the arrow or melee strike hits and damages you. So if you keep moving out of range it is instant miss by exploiting your horse which can strafe sideways. Yes real horse can't do it but Daggerfall horses are magical horses which sidestep amazingly)
I love Zhakaron. Thanks for a mention of him. He always looks like he’s about to fire someone. Or I feel like I’m coming in for a job interview when I watch his videos. It’s strange but entertaining
The way to enjoy Daggerfall is to completely ignore the main quest. It's tedious and confusing and difficult. There's a cool acid-trip dungeon at the end, but it's not worth the effort. Instead, just set your own goals. Become the high priest of that sex cult. Purchase a house in every city. Become a werewolf and use your werewolf power to rob a palace.
Daggerfall is literally THE flexible RPG where you can really be anything, even storywise. Emperor man sends you to another country to exorcise a ghost and delete his and said ghost's wife's DMs, but other than that, everything else is up to you, so long as the quests aren't with a time limit. You don't start as a prisoner and thanks to the extremely detailed character creation, you can start with any variation of reputation that you have. You can choose to do guild quests, or just focus on small town aid quests. Harass guards, be a serial killer, a kleptomaniac, and no one could stop you. Be a vigilante who climbs walls and saves hostages and kicks ass. The whole game is so open ended, the lore even states that every ending you do is canon because why not? Now if you'll excuse me, I have some gold to deposit and an economy to exploit
If you want to get a huge amount of points in the character creator, give your character .. I think it was "critical... weakness"? Anyway the weakest one to disease, poison, fire, ice. shock, all the thing but then choose "immunity to magic" and it counteracts that so you have a zillion character points to play with Also you can layer cloaks to make them look like they have cool linings! Try red with a yellow lining and you will look swanky! Also I'll tell you something wholesome while i'm here, when Morrowind was in development of course the forums was about 3K Daggerfall fans, and the devs asked us what our favorite armor was, the consensus was Orcish because it was the hardest to get (orcish and others would only drop during a narrow level margin and orcish came at the same time as Ebony but was much rarer) a full set of and was the lightest/highest magic point storage ratio of all the armors (plus is was awesome bright green). So they made a way to get a full set and made Umbra. It was so cute a wholesome that no one had the heart to tell them that without those special stats and making it just available like that kind of nullified the whole flex on having full Orcish in Daggerfall. :3
