This is ludicrous, there is difference between working for EMI and working for ROI. The fact that corporate returns have doubled and the same have not been translated into employee wages speaks volume on corporate preferences. This dichotomy of choice with stark variance in favor of economic gains over employee wellbeing is like opting to acquire mileage on short term vision over long term sustenance. Government should intervene and regulate it to reasonable extent before the nation looses its glitter in international perception.

Indian Co's (even when its MNC and office in India) want to squeeze Indian employees. On papers we do 45hrs week as per labor laws however, ask any employee, the employee will anyways work for 15hrs on any given day! There is no OT. Now its all about ownership. Unfortunately, ownership does not exists only during 9hrs shift!!!
This is being voiced out but people at Infosys n L&T are already doing more than 90hrs per week!! Do an anonymous employee survey and you will get that even WFH is not allowed in most circumstances. Employees are easily replaceable is the fact!

Bertrand Russel one of the greatest intellects of the last century had advocated that people should work 4 hours a day and spend the rest of time on leisure. This would allow them time to spend on cultural activities and lead a better quality of life. He argues that in a post industrialized work overworking is completely unnecessary. On the contrary in India we have a set of leaders who fail to understand that it is innovation and efficiency that leads to success. The reason is quite simple they themselves have never been innovative, their successes can often be attributed to the cheap labor at their disposal rather anything ground breaking. With un inspiring leaders like this, its hardly a surprise that everyone wants to quit the country. The demographic advantage is likely to wasted because everyone wants to escape such a toxic leadership.

L&T chairman advocating for a 90-hour work week and dismissing work-life balance are deeply disappointing. Work-life balance is essential for mental health, productivity, and maintaining healthy personal relationships. Suggesting that employees prioritize excessive work hours over their personal lives reflects an outdated mindset that disregards the well-being of the workforce.
In today’s world, where employee satisfaction and retention are critical, leaders should focus on fostering healthier work environments, not glorifying overwork. Statements like these not only alienate employees but also tarnish the company’s reputation as an employer of choice. It’s time for leadership to embrace modern values that promote balance, inclusivity, and respect for personal well-being.

When companies focus on maximizing profits and shareholder value there eventually comes a time when employees will be viewed as numbers on a screen. People go from being "assets" to "expenses", hence layoffs of 100+ people in a go to "realign corporate goals". Businesses should exist to address a need or want of customers (created or already existing). Last point, people are not like coal that you keep shoving them into the furnace to face inneviatble burnout.

The recent remarks by the Chairman of L&T about working on Sundays and dismissively questioning personal time reflect a perspective that displays poor leadership.
Modern leadership requires understanding the importance of work-life balance and creating an environment that values employees as whole individuals, not just as resources. Productivity and creativity often thrive when individuals have time to recharge and maintain meaningful relationships outside of work.
True leadership is about inspiring commitment through mutual respect and sustainable practices.

Many companies in india have 9 hours working, in time sheet. Which is already 45 and not counted late works, due to deadline - don't ask.
None of the company pays over time.
There is no point in raising it because the govt also wanted to increase working hours if you last year news. So same salary work more and taxes we already know.
We will not be able fight because we know, the moment we raise voice, atleast 4 people are around to replace me at work :(
Family can never replace you so it's okay to earn less and give importance to family

L&T Chairman and those of his ilk conveniently seem to be skipping one point of note: They are the CEOs, raking in millions in salary, apart from other bonuses, perks, ESOPs. The employee that they are expecting to selectively emulate them, on the other hand, is mostly an average paid worker arriving at the office on a bike taxi after finishing off all the household chores because they can’t afford a battery of domestic workers that makes ignoring the home a little bit easier.
