Right when I was headed to bed! Why Melon?! Edit: Very accurate analysis as expected a 6 is fair given your points but I'd still rate it a 7 in general. Can we get a C2, or C3 but I prefer C2, review during your next classic album timeframe?
I see a 6 fair as well. At least coming from Fantano, I'd lost hope of a fair rating after watching his Mona Lisa review. I was ready to violate this man verbally.
His classic reviews are reserved for actual classics that have cult followings rather than relatively well-regarded albums that didn't push any boundaries.
Lil Wayne is the reason I started pursuing music. I heard Carter 3 and I was blown away. So the Carter 5 isn't a classic but it hits me with a wave of nostalgia and that's what I wanted from this album.
No offense but sometimes I get really itchy for a review on an album and it finally drops and I watch it and think damn I’m really out here getting all itchy to see that?
"The song Demon features the most awkward application of a flow on the entire album." Huh? Demon is fucking fantastic, I don't know what this dude is talking about. It can be a banger or a vibe song. It's very catchy, too, with a nice chorus/hook. Fantastic beat; it has a Gospel and Jazzy like sound, with a new school twist. And unlike what Fantano said, Wayne rides the beat perfectly with a great flow/cadence, too. And it actually has subject matter; it is about his personal demons (women, money and himself), hence the name. And no auto tune? Amazing! And don't even get me started on the production... Mess was unique from a beat perspective; sounded like an indie beat, a beat which I don't think Wayne has ever rapped over before. Again, the song had subject matter. He had a great flow/cadence. And the little auto tune he did use was done well. Dark Side of the Moon was also great, because Wayne, again, didn't use any auto tune, and the vocals were clear and meaningful. Plus, the beat was somber and melodic, and both Wayne and Nicki played well with each other; neither drowned out the other or tried too hard; they stuck to the beat and theme, and they kept a nice melody throughout. The album could have been improved in some ways, but overall, from a musical perspective, it was a diverse and consistent album. Maybe the way he listed the songs could have been better, and he could've had more beast mode songs like Mona Lisa, Dedicate, and his verse from Let It Fly. Still a fantastic album. To be honest, after hearing Fantano's initial view of Mona Lisa, I wasn't expecting much from this review. I was right. So yeah... my score? 8/10 Edit: And I ain't even get into the punchlines, metaphors, double meanings, etc. Open Safe: "Okay nigga, I just left José nigga, I just left José, nigga Federales on my ass, fuckin' had a boat chase, nigga They didn't see no face, nigga Your bitch spent the whole day with us If she open her fuckin' mouth, knock all the white out, no racism" "I capitalize off my own mistakes, you lowercase, nigga Your bitch cut her legs when they was on my shoulder blades, nigga" Who spitting bars like that?
A bit... Still, it's a very underrated song, which I figured it would be. It reminds me of Kendrick Lamar's "God" from DAMN, which is another very underrated song. Many people said that "God" was the worst song on the album, which was mind boggling to me. The worst song on DAMN. was "LOYALTY" followed by "HUMBLE." Those were still very good songs though. Anyway, the same goes with this song. I think it takes a few listens, as I thought it was okay at first, but then after listening to it a few times it grew on me. And when I listened to it with earphones, it was another story. Yeah, it may not have amazing substance, but it is a great song that you can vibe and/or rap to. And it's quite catchy.
(insert positive adjective) Review Melon but did you really have to (insert thing he didn't do)? That was very (insert negative adjective). Otherwise (insert original positive adjective) review!
Watch out guys, we have a white knight meme destroyer over here. That isn't an earthquake you can hear, it's the sound of stadum-sized fedora being vigourously tipped.
This is definitely a recent song, Travis sounds like 2018 Travis. I'm sure they did something in 2014 but it definitely wasn't let it fly. Maybe the hook.
Yeah me sometimes. I’d give this album an 8. Demons was cold. I like open letter, & start this shit needs more hype. I love the retro vibe and catchy lyrics. Other than that his critiques were pretty solid. I agree with most of the highlights, but those highlights should have brought the score up a bit.
I agree, but I understand why his reviews are lower than my personal scores. He's reviewing the project as a whole, so any songs that aren't great are hurting the score. Since I'm not going to be listening to this album straight through again and am just going to be taking my favorite songs off it, I'm personally rating it based on how many songs there are that I like and how much I like them. Once I edit this album it's at least at 8 for me, and that puts it in my top 5 rap releases of this year. But I understand that's not how reviews are
amazing album i don't really have a problem with the length even if i wish some songs were cut. This is my first Wayne album and now im a fan. might check out his other albums. 9/10
Dark side of the moon is one of my favourite tracks ever. It's Nicki and Wayne pretty much declaring their semi-platonic love for eachother. No lyrics about cash and cars just about how out of this world their relationship is.
1st listen 5 2nd listen 6 3rd - so far listen 6 Its not a 7 too me, not enough content or middle, beginning, end, most of the songs are just bars and subpar hooks....
@@TheDominiqueBallou I think it's a 7 because the content that is there is satisfying to me, i.e.; "Dedication", "Can't Be Broken", "Open Letter", "Famous", (some of) "Dope N****z", "Took His Time", "Used 2", and especially, "Let It All Work Out". Wayne got more introspective and personal on these tracks, at least i feel. Plus, I think the album started and ended brilliantly. The punchlines were good and didn't annoy me like some on Tha Carter IV. But what really shoots it up for me is the replay value of it all. I can play this LP front to back and enjoy almost every cut, Problems excluded. The beats, flow, features, technicality; they all just work for me personally.
Spazzing Wayne, singing Wayne, story telling Wayne, mumble Wayne. C5 got it all .

So yeah... my score? 8/10
Edit: And I ain't even get into the punchlines, metaphors, double meanings, etc.
Open Safe:
"Okay nigga, I just left José nigga, I just left José, nigga
Federales on my ass, fuckin' had a boat chase, nigga
They didn't see no face, nigga
Your bitch spent the whole day with us
If she open her fuckin' mouth, knock all the white out, no racism"
"I capitalize off my own mistakes, you lowercase, nigga
Your bitch cut her legs when they was on my shoulder blades, nigga"
Who spitting bars like that?
Nighhhts you sound pressed buddy
Demon is amazing! Completely agreed

Oh My God, you really, really hurt my feelings, tough guy. You want a kiss, cupcake?
(insert positive adjective) Review Melon but did you really have to (insert thing he didn't do)? That was very (insert negative adjective). Otherwise (insert original positive adjective) review!
Well done. You just described a meme and removed what makes it good. How do you feel?
Watch out guys, we have a white knight meme destroyer over here. That isn't an earthquake you can hear, it's the sound of stadum-sized fedora being vigourously tipped.
@@thebatman4279 THOSE WHO GIVE THE TIPPETH CAN TAKE THE TIPPETH AWAY. EUPHORIC
There was never anything good to be removed from it.
You're wrong about the Travis scott song. They linked up and made the song before 2014 Travis had a tweet in 2014 talking about it.
ShellShock546 nope different song. let it fly was made 2018 bro
rollodollo no it wasn’t fucking idiot
the producers of the song even said it wasn’t made in 2014. sounds like Huncho Jack-era Travis
horizonfios lmao producer said it was made in 2018, fucking idiot
This is definitely a recent song, Travis sounds like 2018 Travis. I'm sure they did something in 2014 but it definitely wasn't let it fly. Maybe the hook.
anyone like this guy but never agrees with him, like all the scores he gives are 2 ratings below what you think
Jacob Wright I agree with him like 90% of the time. He even changed his TLOP score just for me 😌
Yeah me sometimes. I’d give this album an 8. Demons was cold. I like open letter, & start this shit needs more hype. I love the retro vibe and catchy lyrics. Other than that his critiques were pretty solid. I agree with most of the highlights, but those highlights should have brought the score up a bit.
He gave care for me a 6. I'll never forgive him
I agree, but I understand why his reviews are lower than my personal scores.
But I understand that's not how reviews are
How many albums do you hear in a year that you'd give an 8 or higher?
amazing album i don't really have a problem with the length even if i wish some songs were cut. This is my first Wayne album and now im a fan. might check out his other albums. 9/10
bro go listen to Carter 3 right now. Legendary rap album right there
Carter 2 is his best imo. Dedication 2 is also crazy
Carter 1 through 3 are fire 🔥 plus his mixtapes too
I been listening to the first 7 songs on repeat not counting the intro
Dope album
I can respect this review. I would have given the album a 7 though. Lil Wayne showed flashes of greatness
Mr.Brian Wise lil Wayne is great tho
Was waiting for this. Liked it a bit more than a 6 but it was a decent review. Im feeling a light to decent 6 on your review.
How does no one talk about Took his Time? Best song on the album
Gray Mason 100% 👏🏼
Facts bruh
that song is probably my favorite too. so good but it'll be underrated just because people have to get through like 14 tracks just to hear it :/
Ryan Garcia Facts if it replace can’t be broken in the tracklist it would’ve been the most popular song
The vocals in the background with that bass is amazing!
Dark side of the moon is one of my favourite tracks ever. It's Nicki and Wayne pretty much declaring their semi-platonic love for eachother. No lyrics about cash and cars just about how out of this world their relationship is.
Don’t let this distract you from the fact he gave lil pump a 7
DAMN.
Fr like what the hell. This is so much better than all of the music pump will ever make
WOAH MELON I GET ITS EARLIER WHERE YOU LIVE BUT IM TRYING TO SLEEP. Decent review though, I’m feeling a light to decent 6
All I’m happy about is that he actually liked the X featured song
Codeine Brazy I was surprised. Never really seen him like the softer X songs
That's strange because Don't Cry is fucking terrkble!!! I mean seriously how can anyone say positive things about that singing!!!
psychesoulinthehole one of the worst songs I’ve ever heard in my life.
@@ShinyFlakesShinyFlakes it's not bad, your probably a old head
Wait what was DMX or Xzibit on this?
I understand your score, but I personally felt the album was a 7. I enjoy and revisit more songs than not.
1st listen 5
2nd listen 6
3rd - so far listen 6
Its not a 7 too me, not enough content or middle, beginning, end, most of the songs are just bars and subpar hooks....
Tha Fantano VI
Lithany Fantano
'Famous' doesn't even get a recognition?
Harry Jang thats ironic because the word famous basically means recognition
I'd give it an 8, but what's it matter, I'm no Melon 🍈.
Hey melon, great review but I think using nothing but racial slurs to describe Wayne was a bit much.
He didn’t mention Mona Lisa
But he did?
Melon the type to give carter 3 a light 6
