Wow, this is so wonderfully balanced, nuanced, and in-depth. It's really hard to any other source that passes that bar on crypto on YT. It's all either "crypto is god" or "crypto is satan". Kudos to MIT for making this available.
I think this is one of the super advantages of going to an elite school, the folks around you are literally advancing and creating the world around the subject. I mean Mr. Gensler is now SEC chairman, another student is literally has a startup while taking the class, MIT created the history of the subject.
This aged extremely well, especially with the US printing money like crazy. And because bitcoin just blowed up and is hovering around $58000 right now.
I am so very grateful to have these university courses available for free. For the last few years I've been researching and studying crypto currencies, blockchain, buying, selling, trading, using exchanges as well as all the lingo etc... Just teaching myself. It seems every other youtuber (with a channel on crypto and such) is offering their own form of online courses to purchase for hundreds of dollars and up, and their idea of what is correct and helpful is questionable at best. So this is such a wonderful opportunity for me (and others) to finally get a great education at the university level, on this extremely important subject matter! I'm going to have a very busy rest of the year, who knows I might never stop school! lol. Thank you -
One thing. @29:00 you start talking about tx throughput capacity. Originally Bitcoin didn't have a limit. It's why Satoshi said "it never reaches full capacity, so there is no need for it to "scale"". Then a bug happened, and the block-size limit was imposed. At one time it appeared to serve a positive function, but since 2015 it's been a hindrance, as the hardware capabilities of both individuals, and the internet as a whole have vastly improved since 2010 when the limit was first introduced. If the miners were ever wise enough to hard-fork Bitcoin into a version that doesn't have a block-size limit, the transaction throughput capacity would become your bandwidth capacity, tx fees would fall through the floor, and it would be profitable for far more people to mine.
I think you don't get that increasing block size harm the decentralization of the protocol because less and less people can run a node as a result of more Hard drive disk space required so the network as a whole become more fragile and prone to attack and censorship
Wow! Are we learning this lecture for free? How cool is this! I mean in few years I am listening about blockchains, crypto, "mathematical puzzles" etc this video has stunned me with such knowledge. Thanks for uploading this video. It's absolutely Gold!
If your investing experience is less than 10 years start with 5-6 portfolio. Don't bet big on any single company, learn the process first. Initial diversification is not bad, it really worked for me during my early years. Remember that protection of capital is a must. Good luck.
This is a very good course! Just wish more people understood the importance blockchain technology solving a lot of the financial issues around the world
He's probably against it because of the reasons he stated here, it's still not ready to handle transactions at such a scale even close to what the US economy needs, it's not private, literally anyone can look at what you bought or sold etc.
Nothing surprises me. After all the United States government allowed some jackass to come to United States and pretend to be me when in fact they came to my door and talk to me they know damn well that guy's not me.

XRP is 1500 transactions/second and twice the speed of VISA transactions. I hope he recognizes these important factors. Wow, this is so wonderfully balanced, nuanced, and in-depth. It's really hard to any other source that passes that bar on crypto on YT. It's all either "crypto is god" or "crypto is satan". Kudos to MIT for making this available.
能免费感受这些知识,这是不错的,目前加密货币正处于暴跌状态,目前不适合做长期交易,可以根据节点来判断做多或做空来继续长期或者短期交易
Fascinating to listen to Gensler lecture in 2018 in light of his more recent comments on crypto in the real world.
I don't know why RUclips recommended this to me, but I stayed for the whole lecture.
58k? Watch this >>>>> *breaks 63k*
Yeah
Here I am stuck with a ton of counterparty XCP assets, & no Bitcoin!😂
Flirting with 70K now
How about now? XRP is the only coin 🪙
20:11: That would be a $472,880,000 pizza delivery right now (4MAR21).
not bad for a days work

Damn the sec really changed this man clearly this man is smart enough to understand what is and what isn't a security lmao
He has the most thorough understand and is leverage for others to use.
Yup, the Supreme Court uses the Howie test for securities.
changed? what he doing now??

I am so very grateful to have these university courses available for free.
For the last few years I've been researching and studying crypto currencies, blockchain, buying, selling, trading, using exchanges as well as all the lingo etc... Just teaching myself.
It seems every other youtuber (with a channel on crypto and such) is offering their own form of online courses to purchase for hundreds of dollars and up, and their idea of what is correct and helpful is questionable at best.
So this is such a wonderful opportunity for me (and others) to finally get a great education at the university level, on this extremely important subject matter!
I'm going to have a very busy rest of the year, who knows I might never stop school! lol.
Thank you -
Potentially one of the most valuable free videos on RUclips.
Thank you MIT. Been looking for the best course to teach me about the BC technology. Prof Gary has me hooked.
I think you don't get that increasing block size harm the decentralization of the protocol because less and less people can run a node as a result of more Hard drive disk space required
so the network as a whole become more fragile and prone to attack and censorship
Good luck.
Thankyou MIT for the value you give in these free lectures its opened my eyes to bitcoin and world of finance.
This is a very good course! Just wish more people understood the importance blockchain technology solving a lot of the financial issues around the world
Amazing. Being a good teacher/speaker is a gift.
It sure is. Gary is exceptional, engaging, and seems like such a nice guy.
That pizza transaction would be worth about 500million today!! Insane!!!
@Northern Wealth Anarchy Perimeter ₿ullish
500 million on paper, probably far less if attempted realized into fiat currency/real money
yess now we have ADA and VET
@@Ulyssestnt actually it's the opposite 😅
I lost so many bitcoins
Every Ministry of finance should learn blockchain from this video.
It's now 2022 and it is still interesting and actual. Thanks for publishing!
Gensler is literally the stonks man meme
These lectures are brilliant. Please post more like these.
🔥 SEC Chairman Gary Gensler! lets gooooooo! 🔥

I can't wait for the pain. HEHEHEHE
This is what a leader looks like! So glad the US now has competant representation in the SEC.
I have completed four degrees and this guy is probably the best lecturer I’ve ever seen.
Anybody else think it's weird how solid of a position he takes against cryptocurrency? 2 years later.
He's probably against it because of the reasons he stated here, it's still not ready to handle transactions at such a scale even close to what the US economy needs, it's not private, literally anyone can look at what you bought or sold etc.
Came back from the comments
Nothing surprises me. After all the United States government allowed some jackass to come to United States and pretend to be me when in fact they came to my door and talk to me they know damn well that guy's not me.
No.
Hes against the 19000 unregistered securities on crypto exchanges. Not Bitcoin.
Very impressed with Mr Gensler, he comes across as very competent and his knowledge and understanding of Cryptocurrency & Blockchain has to be good for the industry as he leads out the SEC, don't let us down Mr Gensler!!!
Wow MIT has amazing teachers 👨🏫
Thank you Prof. Gary Gensle for saying something quiet important. I am born in Germany, but my Family is from Poland and i am living in Poland since 2013, so i am interested in the history between Poland and Germany since i was a kid. Most poeple say Turing encrypted Enigma, but as you said, the Poles did it and thats important to know, at least for the Poles. Thank you very much for saying that!
Fun fact - Michael Saylor, BTC Maximalist, is a MIT graduate. Gensler has a fantastic lecture style.
I'm so grateful that I'm able to study this course from New Delhi, India. This is such an amazing initiative to transfer such great and informative couse on cryptocurrenncy that too ,completely free. Thank you so much. My enjoying it a lot. Prof Gary Gensler made it fun and interesting
Mr Burns is teaching the course! You know it has to be good.
This type of content really levels the playing field, Thanks
Gensler just enjoying the comment section , this is gonna be gold !
This is power of Internet...endless information 👏..I wish I had 1TB memory in my mind to keep all these information
Anyone else here because the legend that is Michael Saylor suggested it? 🙌
yes :)
Yess 🔥🔥
Yes
Yep
nope
I'm going to call bullshit on Tom doing the readings
Thank you for making these freely available.
anyone who doesn’t understand crypto should just watch this intro great lecture
I love the fact that I know more about crypto/blockchain than M.I.T. students and professors and I never went to college , I took it upon myself to learn about it on my own without paying someone to teach me. I also love the fact that they are now teaching it and people are as eager now as I was to learn about it.
Up to?
I think i like Gary. He seems like a good teacher. Hope hes looking out for the plebs.
Why not you and me and everyone else? Why defer responsibility to someone else?
@@aloevera7422 hes the currentchair of the SEC. I'm not. You're not.
He’s there for the big money control. What could possibly make you think otherwise. He was in Clinton’s admin, Obama’s, and now Biden. Wake up
@@eyesopen9477 That’s how I see it. Additionally, I don’t see being an exec at Goldman Sachs as a plus for the masses who I believe benefit from [his] permissionless blockchain system.
He also mentions speed requirements for the financial system needing to be at least 30,000 transactions/second and BitCoin only allowing for seven (7) transactions/second. XRP is 1500 transactions/second and twice the speed of VISA transactions. I hope he recognizes these important factors. I don’t have my hopes up as his credentials lead me to believe he is more of an Establishment crony than a compatriot. I hope I am proven wrong AND/OR XRP beats him getting confirmed as SEC Chair. I do think this is the case unless he can pull off a magical feat on behalf of the Establishment in the next few months.
ALL I SEE IS BALLS BALLS BALLS
Wow it took you guys way longer than I thought it would to get some decent Bitcoin content. That being said I'm glad that you did. Perhaps get some more forward-looking thinkers involved at MIT.
