Hack your DNA with CRISPR - VPRO documentary - 2018

  • You won't be able to blame it on your genetics anymore: with CRISPR, it's so easy to hacn into your DNA. CRISPR technology is our future, and experiments with DNA hacking are booming. CRISPR biotechnology is not science fiction anymore, it is our very near future. Would you hack and reprogram your own DNA with CRISPR? Breaking the code of life, hacking DNA at home.
Welcome to the world of a new nature. We can now literally cut and paste DNA with the new CRISPR technology. There is a revolutionary development going on that will have major consequences for humans, plants and animals. The new biotechnology is here.
'Bio is the New Digital'. We are able to accurately reprogram the genetic code of our body cells, embryos, bacteria, viruses and plants. With the CRISPR technology we can adjust the characteristics of each organism to our needs. This allows us to permanently ban diseases, improve our body conditions and adapt plants to our food needs.
The special feature of CRISPR technology is that it is relatively simple. In the past year, the number of experiments and applications has exploded. Around the world, people have been tinkering with CRISPR: experimenting at home with the 'Do it Yourself CRISPR kits'.
Scientists call for new ethical frameworks. The demand for the (un)desirable so-called designer babies is imminent. Although this is not yet the case, we can put an end to hereditary diseases in the short term. We may also want to make bacteria that can eat oil or plastic, pigs in which human organs can grow or bring extinct animals back to life.
It looks like science fiction but it is now closer to our reality than ever.
With: Emmanuelle Charpentier (geneticist), John van der Oost (microbiologist), Andrew Hessel (biotechnologist), Niels Geijsen (cell biologist), Josiah Zayner (biohacker) and Ivan van der Meij (FSHD patient).

I was a software developer... anyone ever hear of ERROR CODE HANDLING? Errors will manifest 100% certain and no "ERROR CODE HANDLING" routines to deal with them...will we STERILIZE errors or just kill them?
This is insanity and there will be Hell to pay.

I second that and as DNA is more like C and C++ than Python is compiled before use, a lot of error could made with no error checking. Our awesome Creator actually has built in error checking with the DNA but we are not that smart to implement it. His error checking and correction of "compilation is in live time" How will we beat that.

DNA is like a billion years legacy code written in assembly which has been tested consistently since it was programmed, starting to mess with it is like giving the new intern (which only knows Python) access to the repository and watching what happens.
Once understood, imagine the possibilities tho.

CRISPR cannot be used to unmutate mitochondrial DNA mutations. They would have to get past the outer membrane of the mutant mitochondria. Mitochondria are protobacteria. Plus CRISPR would have to be able identify mutant mitochondria and diffentiate them from normal healthy mitochondria.

Even with the good it could possibly do, what about the event of things going wrong? What if those problems are worse than the diseases? Who would be accountable? Will they be able to fix the problem? No matter the good intent, the bad intents follow as well. Are humans prepared for the bad that could happen? Everyone is studying for the good, who is studying the research for the bad that could occur. How could it be used for bad intentions? How can it be controlled? How is all this being tested to know if it is safe for humans; who are the test subjects? Who determines if it will be used or not and how? Who determines our human rights and the moral ethics concerning the use of it? Too many controversial issues will ensue, more division. They should research other ways to overcome the diseases etc. How desperate are we to avoid sickness, aging and the overpowering obsession to cheat death? Will these changes to the world be good and fulfilling and worth living a longer life? Once this pandora box is opened, it will not be able to be closed. Things never go back to the way they were, there are no redos. What will the future hold for us???

Freedom of choice is yours to choose evil or good choices.
One can't exist without the other. The good is not as aggressive in expressing good as evil is in expressing evil.
Mankind prefers evil more than good. Evil rules because good prefers to stand down.
Good will quickly curse the darkness but rarely turn on the lights. Its all about freedom of choice.

Imagine that you wake up one day with your identity saved on the cloud, able to think through a computational matrix in a super-computer, and you can just elect to have a body when it suits you, and voluntarily 'respawn' when you have a horrific discombobulating accident, rather than lying about in a pre-coma state of agony while waiting for medical professionals to find you and retrieve you for an extended hospital stay.
See, we can do the speculative science-fiction conspiracy game all day, but something as simple as getting maimed in an accident is always just around the corner, with or without the mad science. One of these futures at least has a solution for the 'broken everything in muh body' problem, while neither has a solution for your invisible bogeyman mastermind with devices on control over the populace. If the Knights Templar worshipers of Baphomet Illuminati Freemason Superjew ghouls with access to advanced alien tech truly do exist, you're pretty much equally fucked in either reality.

What if we can cut out heart disease, diabetes, caner, and a whole host of diseases from the human gene? My opinion is, if we can then we absolutely should.

    • @danielmoore4024

What is defined as a disease is my concern, can you recall homosexuality defined as a pathological disorder? Hitler and racial hygiene? Why were alternative races defined as diseases? Humans clearly cannot be trusted, they will no doubt abuse people with it with selfish motives.
I am autistic and I don't want to be cured of the gifts that come with it, they should not have the right to change people without our consent, it is racism and discrimination.
Molecular biologist Miroslav Radman writes, "Mutagenesis has traditionally been viewed as an unavoidable consequence of imperfections in the process of DNA replication and repair. But if diversity is essential to survival, and if mutagenesis is required to generate such diversity, perhaps mutagenesis has been positively selected for throughout evolution."
      Evelyn Fox Keller explains:
"We now know that mechanisms for enduring genetic stability are a product of evolution. Yet a surprising number of mutations in which at least some of these mechanisms are disabled have been found in bacteria living under natural conditions. Why do these mutants persist? Is it possible that they provide some selective advantage to the population as a whole? Might the persistence of some mutator genes in a population enhance the adaptability of that population? Apparently so. New mathematical models of bacterial populations in variable environments confirm that, under such conditions, selection favors the fixation of some mutator alleles and furthermore, that their presence accelerates the pace of evolution."
The mutants behind autism offer some great advantages to the human race, diminishing the genes is a great risk because without those mechanisms there is no asurety of genetic stability pushing us in the direction of extinction.
      Psychologist Howard Gardner warns:
"With the coming of age of genetics, the danger magnifies. Beyond doubt we will discover genes that are important for reading alphabetical scripts; and there is already evidence that a small set of genes may be related to reading problems. As with the brain evidence, such information can be helpful for early intervention; but it could easily be used for stigmatising purposes. Indeed, it might become relevant for marriage prospects, holding a job, securing insurance, or even eugenic purposes. And no doubt, especially in our interventionist society, individuals with a genetic predisposition for reading problems will look into different kinds of genetic engineering or therapy. It is possible that such interventions will work and have no negative side effects, but it is perhaps more likely that they will have unanticipated effects. And we might even want to consider which valued human abilities - eg. spatial or pattern recognition skills - might be placed at risk were we to target our interventions specifically at reading disorders."
We can see the vast majority of so called diseases for what they are; they are discriminatory social constructions, not an intention to objectively understand human biology.
Were global warming, warmer oceans, production of epidemic diseases, climate change, increased natural hazards and more anticipated. I doubt it so I would say Howard Gardner has a good point, every time humans have tried to play God and control nature nature struck humans back with greater problems, the people trying to solve the problems are the people who caused the problems and are trying to solve those problems repeating the same mistake to cause more problems.
Why do so called geniuses fail to recognise their own short comings, why aren't we trying to cure the majority's weaknesses and how sickening the majority is with its ableism?

What is defined as a disease, can you recall homosexuality defined as a pathological disorder?

For a device like structure into instantaneous biological interaction and thus protection of human biology against the environment , there must be a base structural compound that is able to interact with the immediete environment so that "predictive modelled" structures are initiated in the base biological structures in the device. The cellular/biological genome modification structures within the device are decided by quantum circuits designed specifically for converting environmental inputs into quantum outputs that direct the biological device to behave one way.

Captioning is meant to convey ALL THE SPOKEN WORDS. Sadly, apparently it means only the non English SPOKEN words.
Some accents, even in USA, make it impossible to understand. In USA captions mean taking the important SOUNDS, spoken words ( no matter language) . I'm disappointed because this is a good program, good science, but ZERO respect for Deaf, hard of hearing, or just can't understand the accents are DENIED EQUAL ACCESS. !
When I was in Spain, Ireland, Germany, Amsterdam, India- they captioned every word on science or news program. Yet not here? It it's important to make Art, science, etc...is it not worth really captioning correctly? It's not a big deal to do- most news, movies, etc. are SCRIPTED..so one does not have to pay for live captioning. So what is the real reason? Ignorance? Disabilism?
