I always found super amusing that beavers and capybara were declared to be fish by the christian church. Native Americans loved eating them and this became a problem, specially in easter. As both animals live in water the church decided to consider them fish and solve the problem, allowing people to eat them during Easter and Fridays.
“All flesh is not the same flesh: but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of beasts, another of fishes, and another of birds.” 1 Corinthians 15:39 KJV This is the scripture that the Catholic religion grabs on to in order to abstain from meat and yet eat fish on certain days. Flesh is the soft substance consisting of muscle and fat that is found between the skin and bones of an animal, fish or a human. With this being said, meat is muscle; rather it be man, beast, fowl, or fish! The Bible does not require anyone to abstain from meat on any day. In fact, the only passages in the New Testament that talk about it are Acts 15:29 and 1 Timothy 4:3. The passage in Acts 15 says that the only parts of the Law of Moses required by the elders and apostles in the congregation in Jerusalem were prohibitions against idolatry, fornication, and eating blood and meats from strangled animals. It says nothing about abstaining on certain days. In early 1966, Pope Paul VI urged that the practice of fasting and abstinence be adapted to local economic conditions. Later that year, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops relaxed but did not abolish the rules on fasting and abstinence. Further, as the church grew and expanded beyond Western Europe and as society changed due to economic growth, the church in Rome gave national bishops' conferences and even individual local bishops the power to modify the rules to make them compatible with local customs. In conclusion, it was the decision of the Catholic Church to make fish, and only fish, edible on Fridays. It was not and is not God’s. If it were God’s, who does man think he is that he can modify any of it? Fish is meat and this is just another method of Catholic control and another type of “works”, traditions, and rituals that do not get you into heaven.
Only if you’re a gullible member of the sheeple, don’t you get it? They made people eat fish to earn money. It’s like the oreo company getting behind leaving cookies and milk for santa.
Stops @3:40 unless you want to watch a guy eat a fish sandwich for 4 minutes
