    #askmark When diving with both an AI transmitter and an SPG, with the AI transmitter using the HP port over your left shoulder so it is on the same side as your dive computer, how do you route the hose for the SPG? Is it an issue that the SPG hose is coming from the right HP port but still needs to be on the left thigh D-Ring? Or would you recommend putting your dive computer on the right hand?

    I have the Shearwater Teric with the latest version of their transmitter. I have my SPG on the left HP port, connected to my left lower D-ring, and my transmitter is on the right HP port, with a 6” HP hose.
    I wear my Teric on my left wrist, and after 20+ dives in this configuration I have had zero connection issues.
    My back up computer is the original Peregrine on my right wrist, which of course is much larger. I am right handed, so my wrist slate is on my left wrist.
    Since the Teric is smaller, it fits next to my wrist slate easier. This is the reason for my computer/wrist configuration.
    The moral of the story… buy a Shearwater, you won’t regret it :)

    Respectfully, I am larger/ my arms are longer than most people (I am a retired NFL OL). My AI is on a 6” hose on the right side. Then I run my SPG on the left. However I do have an Air2 so I don’t have an octo. 70+ dives and haven’t had an issue yet with the distance

    Is it okay to get into rebreather diving after advance open water certification or do some technical training and technical diving first and then move to rebreathers? What recreational rebreathers are available in the market?

    • @ScubaDiverMagazine
      @ScubaDiverMagazine  23 дня назад

      There was a push a few years back to teach entry level divers on rebreathers from the start.
      There are some habits you can get into as an OC diver that don't transfer but, there's nothing wrong with signing up for a rebreather course straight out of the gates.
      They're all recreational really, some machines just have greater range and capabilities so it would be better to learn on the unit that's suitable for the type of diving you plan to do. Units like the Horizon are aimed at a recreational market but, it's a SCR and if you get into rebreathers you may find it limiting.

    Check dive sites frequented by experienced tech divers, and I guarantee you won't see anyone wearing their computers on their left arm.

    #askmark at 5:57 you have routed your transmitter over your left shoulder. Currently I have my transmitter directly on the first stage on the right hand side and my computer as well. How would I do the setup you have on the left but then on the right hand side?
    Please transmit some tips (pun intended)

    • @ScubaDiverMagazine
      @ScubaDiverMagazine  23 дня назад

      You can attach a transmitter on the end of any high pressure hose just like a SPG. You do need a swivel pin between the hose and transmitter and I would put a clip on the hose to stop your transmitter from swinging around.

    I use transmitters on side mount and doubles. I've used the Shearwater and generic transmitters. Rarely have issues with either and only briefly.

    Hy Mark, thank you very much again for this video. You help me get a better diver.
    This time I have a question myself for you #askmark about weight distribution.
    I'm diving with a backplatestyle wingsystem. Lets say I am carrying 6 kg I was putting 4 kgs in the two dumbable pockets on my waiststrap and 1 kg each in one of my two cylinderstrabbands on my back. I found myself to be a bit "headup" and was wondering if I should put more weight in that upper cylinderband on my back. That might bring me in a more horizontal position. BUT...with that configuration I would have less weight to dump in the case of an emergency. To dump just 2 kg...I am not shure how safe I would feel in this scenario. Is there any advice you can give.
    Thank you very much as always.

    • @ScubaDiverMagazine
      @ScubaDiverMagazine  23 дня назад +1

      It can be done that way but it's important that you know that you're not overweighted.
      If you're correctly weighted then dropping the 2kg of dumpable lead should be enough to let you become positively buoyant and float to the surface at a more controlled rate than dropping 4kg.
      Cylinder and leg position can also help so I would experiment with them first but, you can put your lead where you need it. Just be sure that you're able to drop enough to make you float if your BCD should fail.

    #AskMark How do you feel about the Cressi Digi 2 SPG? Do I need an analog SPG for redundancy. I like the functionality of seeing my pressure in numerical format and how much time I have left on my dive.

    • @ScubaDiverMagazine
      @ScubaDiverMagazine  24 дня назад

      I like the Digi2, I wouldn't bring a 2nd SPG because the battery life is in the hundreds or thousands of hours. I'd just change the battery every other year at least.

    I wear my computer on my left wrist and my tankpod is also on the left HP port. I don’t take an spg anymore. An spg and a tankpod is basically the same as two spg’s, and nobody does that either. Never had a problem with the fact that the computer and the inflator are on same side! It’s just a matter of habit.

    #askmark How reliable are secon hand computers and where's the best place to buy?

    • @ScubaDiverMagazine
      @ScubaDiverMagazine  20 дней назад +1

      I wouldn't worry about a 2nd hand computer as long as it isn't too _vintage_ or the unit has known issues. I'd avoid anything from a manufacturer that doesn't exist anymore, a fair few companies have disappeared or merged with others over the years.
      Your best action is to screenshot whatever you're looking at and ask a diving forum for others opinions. They'll soon let you know if it's something worth avoiding or not.

  • @Yggdrasil42
    @Yggdrasil42 24 дня назад

    I don't use a SPG as backup. Just two Shearwater Swift transmitters, one for my left sidemount tank and one for my right. The range is indeed limited especially when the battery is running down. Keep spare batteries on you (plus any tool you need) and replace when you're getting Comm Lost warnings on a dive. As long as I keep the batteries full I have no problems with the transmitter in my right armpit reaching the computer on my left wrist and vice versa.
