So, I was booked to fly to YWG from YYZ this last Monday. I upgraded even though the aircraft was shown to be a Baby Bus. When I got to the gate there had been an equipment change to a 787-9. Best upgrade ever!
flew Air Canada Dreamliner Toronto to Vancouver yesterday and had the exact same seat 13K! decided at checkin to splurge with a last minute upgrade to premium economy and was not sorry. It was one of the most comfortable flights I have ever had. from the seat, to the legroom, to the amazing recline of the seat, to the beautiful breakfast on actual china plates and real cutlery, to the easy and quick IFE. and to the professionalism and kindness of flight attendants, it was a memorable experience. beautiful aircraft to fly on.
Thanks for the excellent report. I used to work for Boeing. I retired in June 2014 and the last 787-8 I was involved with was #125. Oddly enough after all this time I still haven't flown on an 87. But your video sure makes me wanna' go somewhere and on an 87, even with stale bread! Again, thanks! ;-)
Boeing sure makes good airplanes. I’ve flown in so many 737s I’ve started to appreciate the company. I even toured Boeing’s factory once. It was fun. My favourite airline is WestJet, but I like Air Canada too. After all, it was Air Canada flight 797 that gave us the escape path lighting system that helps us find exits in the dark
I have flown long-haul international flights between Asia and North America and found the 787 windows are fantastic, large and have the dimmer control to darken the windows without the pull-down shade. Passengers are still be able to see out them yet the cabin is dark enough not to disrupt sleeping passengers.
Great video as usual! I'm a little late seeing this, watching in 2020. When you said take off was from 24L, I knew you had to make either a right or left turn. When you turned left, I was hoping to see shots of the lake or the skyline of Toronto. That was the only downside to the video!! Enjoyed it none the less!
I am always amazed at the 'bendy' wings; with wing tips 'higher' than the fuselage in flight; thanks for sharing; a Grade 7 classmate captains for Air Canada on the 787s; yes I am jealous :)
As always, excellent video. Brings back memories of crossing the pond with AC. Only in economy. LOL. Hopefully this pandemic is over sooner. In terms of the flight attendants, as long as they were not rude. Many people are not happy to be at work, though professional.
Thanks for doing this Alex, I have booked one from Vancouver to London in August. Like you I found a ridiculously affordable Premium Economy fare so this will be my first time also. I laughed when I saw you sit in the exact seat that I have booked!
Great video :D I'm amazed that you are 6'8 and still had plenty of room, I also like the 2-3-2 configuration it's so much better than 3-4-3 layout. I never flew AC 787 Premium but it certainly seems worth it from what I've seen. The meal in particular looked appetizing lol. I've flown with Lufthansa and they also had metal cutlery instead of plastic.
I flew on Air Canada's 787 in Premium Economy to Tel Aviv with that exact menu. I had the beef and it was really good (sorry, don't mean to rub it in :3) but the guy sitting beside me had the chicken and he really enjoyed it. The seat is really comfortable and just a pleasant experience overall.
Lovely TripReport mate. Very detailed, I see what you mean about the IFE System. The food looked good and so did the Amneity kit as well. Look forward to the next video in this series.
Lucky you, you got a complimentary whiny baby too! They haven't even closed the door and pressurized the cabin but I'm guessing it will be awesome fun climbing out and then the descent into Munich!
Fantastic video Alex, I'm hooked and subscribed. I like how your filming is so smooth and unobtrusive. How do you get all the flight/aircraft information like engine types, registration, callsign, runway designation, and things like when the aircraft was delivered to the airline?
Thank you very much! The registration, if I can't see it from the terminal, I usually find by looking back on my flight's FlightRadar24 history, where I can also see what runways were used. From there, I use planespotters.net to find the engine types/age of the aircraft. The callsign is often just the airline and the flight number, with some exceptions - British Airways being "Speedbird", etc.
Yeah they could’ve served it with like a cup of tea or coffee but I like banana bread so it still looked nice...not that taste matters on a flight since changes in air pressure at high altitudes weakens your sense of taste which results in even the spiciest foods tasting bland at 35,000 feet, but I’d enjoy it anyway!
I met very well in Economy class three years ago during flight : MXP TO TORONTO . But i look it better in Premium Economy . I remain surprised to their service .
Awesome trip report! Very informational, I am looking forward to buy premium economy for my trip from PEK to YVR, thank you!! Did they ask you if you want to see the cockpit?
Was wondering if you or anyone else who has flown Premium Economy on AC can provide some input with regard to the head rest? It seems to jut a fair bit out from the seat based on pictures. Was wondering how the seat was for neck and shoulder comfort? Almost looks as if shoulders would not sit against seat back without neck being pushed forward (away from seat? Would appreciate your feedback.
My exact thoughts! And I also want to know if my teenage son with his height being 65 inches, would he find the headrest too high????? I believe it's adjustable and it goes higher but would it be too high for his height. ?
I really don't notice the difference in higher cabin pressure or humidity in the 787's. The one thing I could tell blindfolded if I was brought on board, seated and then took off was the much lower engine noise.
Great video. I was in 13k on the 787 to LHR and the meal choices were gone. IT''S THE 2nd ROW!!!! . People seated in economy row behind were given a choice. I was told I could have that option or nothing. Very disappointed for being seated in the 2nd row of premium. I doubt I'd pay extra again. That is crazy, very bad catering job for AC
Glad you enjoyed the video! Personally, I would definitely fly it again, I couldn't imagine being stuck all the way in the back on some of AC's ultra long hauls like Vancouver to Melbourne (16 hours).
Was wondering if you could give your perspective on the head rest? From pictures it seems to jut out from the seat quite a bit and wondered how it was for neck and shoulder comfort?
What happened to the pre dinner cocktail service? I hope it's not like economy class, where AC insists that nobody, regardless of flight time, is allowed a pre dinner beverage, alcohol or otherwise?
Air Canada is great but their prices are not competitive atall it's only effective to fly with them if they have a really big sale or you collect lots of Aeroplan miles for business. Their premium is a joke it's double and sometimes triple the price of their economy. You could buy out an entire row of economy (3 seats) and have a lie flat bed for cheaper than premium economy. I only consider flying premium if it's 20-30% more expensive as that is all its worth
what else do you want to see in this video..... his face while he was sleeping? Maybe the bathroom toilet as he used it? Like honestly bro what else is there to see? He showed us the most important things and we all love the wing view so yeah. One thing, I would've liked some boarding clips and a view through the slits of the Jet Bridge and also a view of the safety cards but other than that it is a great report mate cheers!!

That's a fantastic upgrade, especially for a domestic flight! :)
Loni Stewart lucky
A 787 to YWG - very rare 😲

Thanks for taking the time to share this. It was very helpful in making my booking decision.

That was excellent Alex !!! Thank you for sharing !!! :):):)
Best one I've seen so far. Thank you. Travelling Premium in may and hoping that the adjustable headrest will work for me, I am short!
As Toronto being my home city. You represent my airline well.
Its not your Airline (just because you live in a city in canada)
Get a life kid
Same

Excellent trip report. It looks like you had a very good flight with AC. Their PE product looks impressive
Thanks for doing this Alex, I have booked one from Vancouver to London in August. Like you I found a ridiculously affordable Premium Economy fare so this will be my first time also. I laughed when I saw you sit in the exact seat that I have booked!
I got the seat behind you on the same plane on my flight to London last October!

Awesome trip report, Alex. Enjoyed!
Great trip report. 👏👏👍
You’ve been doing a lot more of these lately ... just interested how you fund them? Or are they work related? 🤔
Lovely TripReport mate. Very detailed, I see what you mean about the IFE System. The food looked good and so did the Amneity kit as well. Look forward to the next video in this series.

Alex, really enjoy watching all your flights. Have a suggestion, can you add a segment with regards to flight attendants’ service?
All customers or all passengers?
Alex so what is the economy class pillow made with if not fabric ?
Really nice inflight video on board the Dreamliner! Looked like a great flight! Liked!
Great video Alex.

Nice video
Were the earbuds any good?
I like it much better now that you talk.. you have a great voice & inflection, even for a Canadian, Eh!
Awesome video! =D
Awesome Tripreport! Liked
They could've done more than banana bread for that breakfast service, but it looked like a nice flight.

Awesome trip report! Very informational, I am looking forward to buy premium economy for my trip from PEK to YVR, thank you!! Did they ask you if you want to see the cockpit?
It's an improvement from normal economy for sure! I asked while deplaning and they were more than happy to let me take a look.
Alex Praglowski Aviation yea man! Oh okay thank you for your time!
Was wondering if you or anyone else who has flown Premium Economy on AC can provide some input with regard to the head rest? It seems to jut a fair bit out from the seat based on pictures. Fantastic!
Hopefully you can do an Air Canada Airbus Premium Class flight trip soon :) Looking to use my aeroplan miles in the near future...
OMG how come you entered cockpit !!??!? 24:24
I really don't notice the difference in higher cabin pressure or humidity in the 787's. The one thing I could tell blindfolded if I was brought on board, seated and then took off was the much lower engine noise.
I flew that exact plane from Munich to Toronto on Aug 15
How do you get to fly so much?
Nice report mate, enjoyed!
Flying Newark to Vancouver soon in economy. Do you think
It’s worth upgrading? Or will it be fine in economy?
I'd say it's worth the upgrade!
So, how much was the ticket price for the Premium Economy upgrade (total)?
This particular upgrade was an extra $100 on top of the normal economy fare.
You are the best
Premium economy (at least) is the way to go!
What is the price difference from economy and premium economy
It varies, but this flight was $100 extra just by pure chance.
Great video. I was in 13k on the 787 to LHR and the meal choices were gone. IT''S THE 2nd ROW!!!! . People seated in economy row behind were given a choice. What happened to the pre dinner cocktail service? I hope it's not like economy class, where AC insists that nobody, regardless of flight time, is allowed a pre dinner beverage, alcohol or otherwise?
Was that it for breakfast, a slice of banana bread in Premium Economy? No way!! You're joking, right?!
Did you have a connecting flight in Munich?
I did!
Alex Praglowski Aviation Where?
Only one meal service???
i did this flight last year but on a 777
Alex did you ever take off your shoes to relax and stretch out your legs on premium economy or is it just business and first class.
Air Canada is great but their prices are not competitive atall it's only effective to fly with them if they have a really big sale or you collect lots of Aeroplan miles for business. You're going to need sit down after the four mile walk you just had.
I took premium economy from London to Calagary and what you get for all the extra money, its not worth it al all save your money
They didn't serve breakfast or at least throw a stale piece of bread at you!
Rip
Very bad meal Service no cheese no butter????? where is the sparkling wine and the Cognac.... and then no meal choice… A nightmare
You must have a lot of sleepless nights!!
It’s real tough when your not in business class. I feel your pain.
Banana bread was all you got for breakfast in Premium Economy.....egads, what a ripoff!!!!!
Do you speak anything other than English
This video really sucked. All I could see was the aircraft wing and engine. Especially when landing at Munich.
That's kind of the point of a Trip Report....
what else do you want to see in this video..... his face while he was sleeping? Maybe the bathroom toilet as he used it? Like honestly bro what else is there to see? Your comment really sucks. Where are your videos? Its so easy to sneer from the sidelines……
