Look at his freaking hit window it’s like a sloppy wet pus sy, I like mine to be in perfect time for the song maybe that’s why it’s harder for me to FC songs
The window is big is because the note speed UKOG had it on, is intense. Turn on show hit window, then change the note speed on your ingame profile and you'll see how it increases and decreases based on speed.
Another great tip for CH players after you've finished calibrating: some songs you import will be slightly out of sync in terms of their audio. If you notice a random song(s) giving you trouble after you've calibrated, slow the song down (I go to 80%) and play through it. If the notes' audio plays before or after you're supposed to hit the note, pause and go to Song Settings --> Audio Offset. Go to negative numbers if the notes' audio was playing early, and go to positive numbers if the notes' audio was playing late. Go ahead and test your settings and tweak the number until the audio and notes line up exactly with each other. When you're finished adjusting and finding the sweet spot for the song, go back to full speed and the notes will be SPOT on. It'll save your setting for the next time you play, too. This shouldn't be a frequent problem if you've got your calibration perfect, but it's an extra tool to have perfect calibration on every song 👍🏼
Yeah I think he's going to be making a few more of these with some frequently asked questions, keep your eyes peeled for them, the thumbnails will all be the same theme so you know what to keep an eye on c:!
Thank you a ton mate, I just installed Clone Hero yesterday, but felt the hit window was off and knew i wasn't that bad because I've been playing expert RB4 on PS4. That being said, your subathon was the first livestream I checked into and loved it, can't wait for more man, keep up the good shit
0ms video will bring the chords closer to the fretboard. 50+ms will push the chords a bit further behind the fretboard (up on the screen). I always use 0. For audio calibration (on PC only) assuming you have an i3 CPU or higher/AMD equivalent, go into Rocksmith.ini in the steam game folder for RS. Copy and replace this text: [Audio] EnableMicrophone=0 ExclusiveMode=1 LatencyBuffer=2 ForceDefaultPlaybackDevice= ForceWDM=0 ForceDirectXSink=0 DumpAudioLog=0 MaxOutputBufferSize=200 RealToneCableOnly=0 Win32UltraLowLatencyMode=1 Save the file and start game. If you get crackling/no sound or pops on the intro ALT+F4 out of rocksmith add 50 to MaxOutputBufferSize, save file and start game, keep doing this until you find a buffersize your CPU can keep up with. For slower CPU's you may need to use LatencyBuffer 4 but this will introduce a slight delay from your guitar. The settings above will give you low latency on the guitar but you must also be using either optical or 3.5mm audio output (headphones or PC speakers for example). If playing sound through TV/Monitor HDMI feed, you will always get unplayable sound delay no matter what you try.
also you can download a game called phase shift on pc (knock off guitar hero) which has a calibration mini game and swap the settings over to clone hero, works perfectly for me
www.dwsk.co.uk/index_phase_shift.html Install the game (Phase shift) then on the game there is a calibration mini game where you play simple notes to the timing of a metronome. Once you're done the game gives you the ms settings for video and audio delay. Remember the numbers then put them into clone hero and your game should be calibrated!
Used to have trouble with the same thing. If your trouble is with alt strumming, then what you want to do is apply pressure with your index finger as you strum down with your thumb. No need to move your entire hand, just move your thumb up. It'll feel weird at first, but after a lot of practice you'll get the accuracy of thumb strumming with the speed benefit of alt strumming. Keep in mind that this does lose its benefits when you get 24th notes and faster. For that you'll have to practice vibrate strumming or rake strumming.
Man, thank you very much. You were very clear and objective in your explanation. I recently bought a panasonic smart tv and was having lag problems with the guitar hero warrion of rock, its video really helped me a lot. Won another subscriber, hugs from Brazil, take care!
in a perfectly calibrated audio offset the only thing video offset does is give you more time to hit the note, and less time to hit it early, which some people might view as making it easier
Thank yo BOOOY, after yeeears! i wasn't able to play the songs by it's "time", whenever i hit the notes in sync with the song, i would miss them, especially some chords with alternate strumming, thanks, now i can enjoy playing the songs with amazing sync! it helped me with GH Van Halen and GH3 on PS3 too
I use 40ms audio lag. I found that out by 2 things: 1. Playing OGAP on Expert at roughly 50% speed 2. I pressed the "Get Audio Lag" button in Clone Hero IMO, calibration for GH3PC was better. I just set it at 170 and that's it
Hold on, you said video offset wouldn't help you if your monitor had delay. However, if your monitor takes 60ms to show you what's happening, so you're always 60ms late, and you tell the game that you want to move the hit window 60ms later, wouldn't that fix the problem of the game always thinking you're late? Granted, it won't fix the problem of the notes "appearing" to be hit late on screen (you can't play the animation for the note being hit until the game has received input that it's been hit). Also, the audio cues for when you miss a note will still be late (you can't play the overstrum sound or cut the instrument track until the game knows it's supposed to.) However, doesn't it still fix the main issue that you're supposed to be hitting notes when you hear them, not before you hear them?
I have a question about Rock Band 4. It's the first guitar game I have had access to for a while, because it was cheap, and was on the only console I own at the moment. So, what makes Rock Band 4 more "difficult" than other guitar games? Is the note window just smaller? Are there strange mechanics with hopos that are unique to it? Would really appreciate the reply. Btw your tutorial on learning to tap got me to fc the intro of TTFAF on rb4, and get a 96% on freebird so that's sick.
DirtyDollar Well, Rock Band's charts are usually easier than Guitar Hero's, but the time frame you have to hit notes is much smaller. This is why Rock Band 4's OGAP chart has given George so much trouble.
Daniel Cogan Yea, I noticed that. When I play Guitar Hero 3 (with an arcade guitar) I am able to hit faster and more complex hopos than at home. It's kind of ridiculous.
Another big thing is that Rock Band doesn't allow ghosting of notes. So on HOPOs if you press a note between two notes that isn't there, you'll drop the HOPO and if you don't strum again you'll miss. On Guitar Hero all that matters is that the right note is pressed when it needs to be, regardless of how many notes were pressed in between.
megamachopop okay I definitely noticed that crap, it makes it so difficult to land most fast sequences of hopos. Not to mention it makes it a million times harder to get back into a hopo pattern. Good to know.
this saved me so much for my ps2, i have two vizio tvs ones a 32” and a lil older than my 42” and the 42 has a delay that i’m still somewhat working on, thanks dude
Just got into clone hero and never really knew how to calibrate my guitar manually (always did it automatically with the sounds and flashing lights) so this tutorial is helpful to me
One thing to add. Pixel response time (the ms value) on montors have absolutely nothing to do with input latency. Input latency is caused by slow image processing. For example TVs often do quite a bit of processing before they display the image. animation smoothing for example.
I misunderstood what you meant when you said "If you have long delay on your TV or guitar, then you can't fix that". So that's true, for the Menu, you can't fix menu lag. But menu delay isn't really that important. The important thing is how to fix that once you're in game, strumming. That's why the Video Offset exists. You're telling the console how long it takes for the video to leave the console and get to the TV, and then however long the post processing is, until your eyes can see it. Of course, you can't use an in game console setting to change your TV, and wires. However, you are correct in what the actual function does. You change the timing of the hit window, to account for a TV with higher MS. So, the advice of "don't ever change this" might be correct for you, since your TV appears to be very low MS, but, for people with older or slower TV, changing the Video Offset is the correct solution. It might not feel true to call it Video Delay, but I feel like the full phrase for easy understanding for every person would be "Hitbox delay(ms) to account for video lag" and that's a bit unwieldy to throw into a menu xD As well as "If your TV has a video delay this setting adjusts the hitbox so you can line that up" In fact, as far as I recall (from warriors of rock? or others), it might have even changed the delay of all of the graphics. Like the entire track, and background, not just the hit box. So it seems like every game might have it's own solution or depth.
this is actually pretty handy for the Rockband games since they just call it "display lag" which just ends up confusing people as to why its always out of sync
If you have an input lag calibration cannot fix that, but there is a way to do that. Press space in the menu, click calibration and for all axys change dead zone to 0.
holy f***! This blew my mind. I literally stopped playing because i thought it was impossible to sync it properly. My video latency was all over the place cause i didnt know what it actually did. I thought it was all about the notes reaching the bars quicker/slower
Isn't Video Lag dependent on your display's input lag, not it's refresh rate? I researched this a bit for Melee netplay and found that refresh rate only has to do with how well your display shows smooth motion. I think to be simple, look up your TV/Monitor's input lag on Google using it's product number, then set the video lag to that number (Many TV's are just bad for precision gaming in general because they don't take input lag into account, only refresh rate which is fine for watching media). Audio lag is the difficult part for me that always kills my calibration, but remember that if you're using headphones, the audio lag should always be higher than through speakers since you're getting the sound more directly (IMO anyways).
yeah I should have gone into that more, was just on the fly a bit and forgot. Bottom line tho, if there is a big delay from your monitor when you hit a note and your tv doing it, you need a better tv/monitor. Cheers for the explanation
I've found though honestly that if the input lag of the display isn't HORRENDOUS (80ms+) you can actually compensate for it fairly well with the in game controls but it takes A LOT of fiddling around. My TV has an input lag of 35 ms on game mode and I've been able to get it pretty spot on with a 50ms video delay and 250ms audio delay, although it took hours to really dial it in right.
Because when you think about it a display is just showing what happens in the game and your audio equipment is just producing the sound. Therefore, if the hit window is where your pc thinks the note is and your TV is showing the note later, then your're just moving the hit window of the game later than where the note actually is by the same amount that it's delayed being shown to you and same goes for audio delay.
Nice video, explains a lot. You can actually set the game to show your "invisible" hit window making it easier to calibrate your video lag to your perfect preferences.
Thank you for this video! Such a great explanation! I'll try it out as I never hit the notes on time and I have no idea what it had been set to by default.
It's a bit more convoluted but the way I've calibrated the lag on clone hero and Rocksmith is taking a Xbox 360 Guitar Hero game going to lag calibration let it do its thing and then jot down the numbers for the audio and video lag and then copy it point-for-point in each game
Correct me if I'm wrong, but response time on a TV is in no way related to the latency. It's pretty much all about the picture not getting blurry when there are moving objects in it.
Here is what is stuck in my mind. Is audio and video tied to each other. It feels like when I move audio or video I need to adjust the other regardless of which I change
You're flat out wrong about it not helping a higher latency display, moving that hit box is exactly what makes you able to see the note hit "on time" That's it's exact purpose.
Can you help? I've connected my 360 guitar up..configured correctly. The strum up and down works fine to navigate the menu, but in game, the game only needs the notes to be hit, not the strumming. It's probably just a easy option needing to be toggled, but I can't work it out. Any help appreciated
Hello, so I just got back into guitar hero on Xbox 360 recently and Metallica, Smash Hits and world tour I have dialed in but for some reason I can't get a good calibration on Warriors Of Rock any suggestions? This video is really helpful and it's how I dialed in the others wor just giving me trouble
What if I have Rock Band 1 which doesn’t let me calibrate audio and video separately? The two settings are combined and it’s extremely frustrating because something is always off. Any advice?
The calibration process the games make you go through doesn’t work at all for me. I’m trying to use these old games on a new 4K tv so I’ll try the manual settings. I miss playing these games!
hey dude, im here with even for me a new problem, which is that my music seems to go slower than my frames somehow, because in the beginning its spot on, but eventually it wont be even close to playable, problem with every song so it cant be related to that, i tried setting my shortcut to different OS and that kinda stuff, but without any success. its on guitar hero world tour, i have played this game before on the same hardware except for the hdd that has been changed to a SSD, idk if that could make a difference but probably lol. no clue on how to approach this problem, cant find anything on the internet or anything close related to this weirdness. on my laptop the same version runs just fine :/ Could it maybe be also a DisplayPort problem?? any suggestion will be appreciated!
Example. For audio delay,If you hit a note and it hits, but the audio for that particular note has a delay to play that sound. For video delay, you hit the note at the right sound and beat but the note is far or passed the hitting bar.
Trying to play Gh2 Xbox 360 on b6 oled.. My goodness it's tough. The notes are just blazing out of sync and all over the place and nothing seems to be helping it. The other guitar hero games and rock band games are all fine. 🤷♂️
My calibration on Clone Hero changes. Is this a known issue? I'll get it perfect but then the next time I play it'll be off with the same settings and I have to change it to something else.
I'm using RPCS3 and decent monitor, But also using wireless headphones. I feel there is a slight delay after I hit the drum. I'm guessing this is my headphones as my video Calibration is 0ms yet my Audio is 133ms. The drums I'm using are RB wired
huh I never knew for sure what video lag did that’s actually super interesting. my issue is that I can not for the life of me getting GH2 on the Xbox 360 to calibrate perfectly. It’s probably just bc it’s on a newer tv but since there’s not a way to change it manually I can’t get it just right and it drives me insane
He just played the hardest song ever without hesitation
That's UKOGmonky😂.
Look at his freaking hit window it’s like a sloppy wet pus sy, I like mine to be in perfect time for the song maybe that’s why it’s harder for me to FC songs
The hit window is pretty big. I really fucking suck at this game.
The window is big is because the note speed UKOG had it on, is intense. Turn on show hit window, then change the note speed on your ingame profile and you'll see how it increases and decreases based on speed.

Please make this a series
Like, a bunch of Tutorials, you started with Tapping (/TTFAF)
I know he made a video on tapping, just noting he should make it a FULL series, since he already made 2 videos on it
Yeah I think he's going to be making a few more of these with some frequently asked questions, keep your eyes peeled for them, the thumbnails will all be the same theme so you know what to keep an eye on c:!
Honestly would be surprised if he didn't
Maybe I will ;)
How to hit notes.
Notez?
HIT NOTEZ?!?!?!
Whaaat
Wait, you’re supposed to hit notes
RedspringGD nah
Thank you a ton mate, I just installed Clone Hero yesterday, but felt the hit window was off and knew i wasn't that bad because I've been playing expert RB4 on PS4. That being said, your subathon was the first livestream I checked into and loved it, can't wait for more man, keep up the good shit
This is a great explanation of calibration. I hope there’s a video out there for Rocksmith calibration
Copy and replace this text:

EnableMicrophone=0
ExclusiveMode=1
LatencyBuffer=2
ForceDefaultPlaybackDevice=
ForceWDM=0
ForceDirectXSink=0
DumpAudioLog=0
MaxOutputBufferSize=200
RealToneCableOnly=0
Win32UltraLowLatencyMode=1
Save the file and start game. If you get crackling/no sound or pops on the intro ALT+F4 out of rocksmith add 50 to MaxOutputBufferSize, save file and start game, keep doing this until you find a buffersize your CPU can keep up with. Once you're done the game gives you the ms settings for video and audio delay. Remember the numbers then put them into clone hero and your game should be calibrated!
Now clone hero has proper calibration
You should make accurate strumming guide please I'm shit at that
1. Look at your screen
2. Press the strum bar
Sorry I had to
Generic Channel same, im very bad at strumming accurately
Used to have trouble with the same thing. If your trouble is with alt strumming, then what you want to do is apply pressure with your index finger as you strum down with your thumb. YOU JUST LITERALLY SAVED ME. I had been three weeks playing with an uncomfortable delay and it was solved in 5 minutes thanks to you, daddy
Man, thank you very much. You were very clear and objective in your explanation. I recently bought a panasonic smart tv and was having lag problems with the guitar hero warrion of rock, its video really helped me a lot. Won another subscriber, hugs from Brazil, take care!

i wasn't able to play the songs by it's "time", whenever i hit the notes in sync with the song, i would miss them, especially some chords with alternate strumming,
thanks, now i can enjoy playing the songs with amazing sync! it helped me with GH Van Halen and GH3 on PS3 too
which guitar are you using ? i'm playing with a ps3 warriors of rock guitar and i just can't get right right calibration on any of the games.
I use 40ms audio lag. I found that out by 2 things:
1. Playing OGAP on Expert at roughly 50% speed
2. I pressed the "Get Audio Lag" button in Clone Hero
IMO, calibration for GH3PC was better. I just set it at 170 and that's it
in 2024 it is still a helping vid. Thanks!
this actually helps for me, jesus callibrating was hard

Trying to play rock band 2 on a Samsung 4K nd it’s horrible tried doing the collaboration but it sucks
Just got into clone hero and never really knew how to calibrate my guitar manually (always did it automatically with the sounds and flashing lights) so this tutorial is helpful to me
Yeah, my Hardware Latency is 40... GG indeed.
One thing to add. Pixel response time (the ms value) on montors have absolutely nothing to do with input latency. Input latency is caused by slow image processing. For example TVs often do quite a bit of processing before they display the image. animation smoothing for example.
Thank you!! Just got 3 more percent on creeping death and it feels so much better play

I wish it were like this on rb4, show hit window... Genius
I have Guitar Hero 3 for the PS2 and I have it set to 75ms, because otherwise every not is too late
this is actually pretty handy for the Rockband games since they just call it "display lag" which just ends up confusing people as to why its always out of sync
I love Ukog tutorials. Such. Good channel
this is definetely needed in #faqs lol
Dude I love your charts. New to clone hero, and downloaded all your packs!!!
JaysonTM your charts are amazing.
One thing I wish Clone Hero would implement is changing the size of the hit window entirely. Having it exactly the size of the gems would be perfect.
Isn't this just precision mode?
I used to play guitar hero 3 on the old hdtv's in 2007. How do i proof to my friend that his calibration sucks ass on his ultrahdtv?
If you have an input lag calibration cannot fix that, but there is a way to do that. Press space in the menu, click calibration and for all axys change dead zone to 0.
I LOVE YOU! I was struggling so much with this.
Forgot to mention to put fps to max
holy f***! This blew my mind. I literally stopped playing because i thought it was impossible to sync it properly. My video latency was all over the place cause i didnt know what it actually did. I thought it was all about the notes reaching the bars quicker/slower

this may be a stupid question, but why not have like -20 minus offset so you have a longer window to hit notes??
It moves it. Not stretch or change the size. It is still a 50ms window.
Nice video, explains a lot. You can actually set the game to show your "invisible" hit window making it easier to calibrate your video lag to your perfect preferences.
thanks for this tutorial, i managed to fix it!! also, awesome shirt!!
Thank you for this video! Such a great explanation! I'll try it out as I never hit the notes on time and I have no idea what it had been set to by default.

Okay, so it's not just me that feels like something is out of sync then.
Edit: "get hardware latency" fixed my problem.
my audio doesnt work on gh3 i tried lowering my fps and anything else can you help me
TY
Audio increase to hit late and video increase to hit first. Not both because they cancel each other out. Nothing to do with your screen.

Excited for this!! got my guitar, and my xbox to pc 360 dongle comes in today!! hated GHL -.-
I honestly find that there are certain songs I HAVE to change to play. I wish one setting worked for every song for me.
Hi Dad
Increase audio means you have to hit it soon. Increasing both at the same rate matches and does nothing.
I need this :D Thank youuu 💜
George play this song on your next video ---> Avenged Tablefold - Meme Country
Thank you it matches the song and my sisters hate it and change it
Thank you for this it was very very helpful!
Most TVs have a game mode in the menu which could help with lag
🙂good luck
Esse ''vai Corinthians'' no meio do vídeo, esses br kkkkkkkkkk
Kk
Kkkkk
Kkkk
I don’t have clone hero but that is actually really simple.
Thank you for this
Does this work for rock band 4 on xbox one?
See I got it right on all the other games but audio lag and video lag is the same thing isn't it?
Thank you for this 😁
You're flat out wrong about it not helping a higher latency display, moving that hit box is exactly what makes you able to see the note hit "on time"
That's it's exact purpose.
You only have an option increase on either
Can you help? I've connected my 360 guitar up..configured correctly. The strum up and down works fine to navigate the menu, but in game, the game only needs the notes to be hit, not the strumming. It's probably just a easy option needing to be toggled, but I can't work it out. Any help appreciated
damn, now i know where i fucked up with the calibration XD
still helpful in 2021 thank yew
Ukog is slowly turning into a 'How to..' channel
I CAN PLAY PRACTICE MODE WITH NO LAG OR DELAY BUT AS SOON AS I PLAY NORMALLY EVERYTHING CRACKLED AND DELAYS
So I was strumming with the rythm of the song and failing every note xd 35ms audio offset did it for me as well
How do U havw the facecam and clonehero the full clonehero showing without a Greenscreen ????
What if I have Rock Band 1 which doesn’t let me calibrate audio and video separately? The two settings are combined and it’s extremely frustrating because something is always off. Any advice?
The calibration process the games make you go through doesn’t work at all for me. I’m trying to use these old games on a new 4K tv so I’ll try the manual settings. I miss playing these games!
UKOG New Job...
hey dude, im here with even for me a new problem, which is that my music seems to go slower than my frames somehow, because in the beginning its spot on, but eventually it wont be even close to playable, problem with every song so it cant be related to that, i tried setting my shortcut to different OS and that kinda stuff, but without any success. its on guitar hero world tour, i have played this game before on the same hardware except for the hdd that has been changed to a SSD, idk if that could make a difference but probably lol. no clue on how to approach this problem, cant find anything on the internet or anything close related to this weirdness. on my laptop the same version runs just fine :/ Could it maybe be also a DisplayPort problem?? any suggestion will be appreciated!
I'm not having an offset issue but if I press a fret button it takes more than a second to light up on the screen, I'm using a TV is that the issue?
Can you make a vid on what GH you are using and how you add custom songs?
How is audio lag different from video lag?
Example. For audio delay,If you hit a note and it hits, but the audio for that particular note has a delay to play that sound. For video delay, you hit the note at the right sound and beat but the note is far or passed the hitting bar.
I have 15 guitars all are very delays. I tried to play with settings without success. Do not know what to do 😪 all will go to garbage 😔
Trying to play Gh2 Xbox 360 on b6 oled.. My goodness it's tough. The notes are just blazing out of sync and all over the place and nothing seems to be helping it.
The other guitar hero games and rock band games are all fine. 🤷♂️
Get an old tv
Thank you so much
My calibration on Clone Hero changes. Is this a known issue? I'll get it perfect but then the next time I play it'll be off with the same settings and I have to change it to something else.
Increase video means you can hit it late
I'm using RPCS3 and decent monitor, But also using wireless headphones. I feel there is a slight delay after I hit the drum. I'm guessing this is my headphones as my video Calibration is 0ms yet my Audio is 133ms. The drums I'm using are RB wired
trying to play on a roku and its impossible, any tips? or us it not gonna work
Its weird that i can play CH perfectly with 0ms audio?
No, that’s the audio delay. Video is a bitch
How do you have that hit window? Mine is so much smaller.
Everyone is so fucosed on "HI RUclips!!! NOTICE ME!!!!" Instead of paying attention. That's funny.
huh I never knew for sure what video lag did that’s actually super interesting. my issue is that I can not for the life of me getting GH2 on the Xbox 360 to calibrate perfectly. It’s probably just bc it’s on a newer tv but since there’s not a way to change it manually I can’t get it just right and it drives me insane
Okay but what about input lag?
my calibration was perfect till i upgraded my PC to 64-bit now it doesn't matter what the numbers are, i hit notes late
I have a dDrum with midi adapter for my xbox 360 rock and 3. I can't get it to calibrate. Will this solve my problem? Thnx🤘
thank.
Woah yeah, teach me senpai
