This was a very challenging, but also very fun build. Since I don't own an airbrush (I intend to get one at a later time, maybe next year?) I think this is a perfect way to give your kit that special individual look. I'm tempted to try it the MG Unicorn that I have. A bit more manga style maybe? Thanks for checking out the vide :)
@@GiantRobolove I look forward to seeing the results! I might try it on a non-grade 1/100 Dynames that I haven't built yet.. Not sure. I've never hand-painted a model before so I'll probably start with something cheaper.
Good luck with the painting. If you happen to have spare parts laying around, use them for practice. That's a good way to get a feel for the brush and the color. However it turns out, you will feel very accomplished afterwards :)
Great video- I liked your basic explanation of the process but would love to see an in-depth tutorial from you. Your style and pace are very enjoyable to watch. Thanks!
Maybe the other video I made about manga style might help in some regards? Either way, I will keep that in mind and in the future I might try another anime style kit with a more indepth explanation. Thanks for letting me know.
I'm glad you were able to take something away from it. With the next one I might talk a bit more indepth about the technique. This time around everything was still new to me. So next time will be more detailed I guess.
It's great to see the good & the bad & how one approaches unforseen problems, because that issue may teach more than the rest of the video itself some times(even if accidental). The final result looks great!
Really nice looking end result. It’s too bad about the broken hip joint! I can feel the pain from that for sure. I’d love to know how you chose how you would paint it as you did. The result would not have made me think it was your first attempt. 🔥
Thank you! I was looking at lots and lots of reference material. Old 80s mecha anime are perfect for research. Think Five Star Stories, Macross and of course old Gundam shows like War in the Pocket. You could also look for artbooks from that period.
Great video man, keep them coming. And literally the exact same thing happened too me. I was finishing up cleaning up the panel lining and bam! The leg broke and I ended up putting a metal rod though both pegs.
Hey Will, welcome on board. Thank you for your support. Yeah, try it, it's really fun. Just look at 80s and 90s mecha anime a lot and you will get a feel for that style :)
You just inspire me to go back to my backlog kit that i ruined from my first time scribing, it might ruins the kit even more but at least i'll learn something.
Can you help me with something? I love this style and would love to try it. I come from tabletop miniatures so this would be first gunpla for me. How you decide on placement and thickness of white highlight lines and black shadow lines? Some call it darkness flow. I understand the concept but I'm missing practical explanation where to place it and how much.
Hey, thanks a bunch for your comment. The way I did it was to just look at a bunch of old giant robot animes like Gundam, Macross and also Votoms. Votoms is a good reference, because they have a more simple design with bigger limbs and thus surfaces to reflect light on. I can't really give you a step by step guide, a lot was gut feeling. Looking back at the kit now, I probably would've done it a bit differently, especially with the funnels. But basically, desice on where you want you light source to be, take a photo of the kit with said light source and go from there. If you move your light source around, you might find spots which reflect light more than others. Use this as a guiding point. I hope this somewhat helps. I plan on doing more kits like this in order to learn more. I'll definitely share my findings with all of you.
Well I'm not as proficient with paint(brushes) as I am with markers. I bet since you come from tabletop miniatures you have the necessary skills to paint it with a brush. I found it rather easy to do it with a marker.
I got into gunpla. Cause I needed an outlet for my grife from my mom passing away . And all my ex friends and ex girlfriend at the time made fun of me about it . But it allowed me to temper all my rage and depression with being creative .
Man that's rough. I'm sorry for your loss. How are you doing nowadays? Hope you were able to bounce back 100%. It's so great to hear that this hobby was able to help you.
my friend I have the same exact kit you have here ill be more than please to send it to you as gift for your hard work ..dedication..maybe you can use it as a follow up or use it as spare parts ...email me plus I just subscribed
Hey Carlos, that is such a generous offer of which I fear that I can't accept, even though I am very humbled by it. But please, let me elaborate on that more. How can I reach you?

Might honestly be one of the best cel-shaded gunpla I've seen. You've inspired me to try to do this with one of mine!
Thank you :) Which one are you picking for yours? I might do either a MG Destiny or MG Unicorn next with this style.

Wow, what an amazing end result, really nice paint job. I'm sorry you had issues but I'm glad you persevered!
I got into Gunpla through Hentai ❤
Lol what, this has to be the best comment I ever received 😂
What hentai though

thanks for sharing, it's a very interesting technique, and you can't find videos on the net that give an idea how to practice it . :)

Cool paintjob, that ''Oh man eyy'' cracked me up.
Thank you :) It was a bumpy road haha
It's great to see the good & the bad & how one approaches unforseen problems, because that issue may teach more than the rest of the video itself some times(even if accidental). The final result looks great!
Thank you :) Yes, I figure that watching the journey might be more interesting than the result.

So inspiring and the final product looks amazing!!!
Thanks a lot. Painting by hand is definitely something I enjoy a lot. Some day I want to try airbrushing the kits.
Im not one to subscribe to channels but damn... the quality of your videos...keep it up, you deserve wayyyyy more subs!!!.
That makes the sub even more valuable. Thank you for watching and for your support :)
that looks so cool!
Thanks :)
Sweet paint job
Thanks!
Great video man, keep them coming. And literally the exact same thing happened too me. I was finishing up cleaning up the panel lining and bam! The leg broke and I ended up putting a metal rod though both pegs.
Hey, thanks a lot. Yeah, things like that are such a bummer. Does the peg hold up? And which kit was it?
Legs are holding up great. And it was the MG Hi Nu Gundam 1.0.
came for the paint job, end up fixing my barbatos broken peg thanks!
Yeeaaah! Does it hold up until now?
Just subbed. Loved this video. Great effort despite the issues you ran into. I want to learn how to paint like that.

Thank you :)
nailed it! love the video and you have certainly won a new subscriber!
Hey Joe, thanks man. Welcome aboard, always happy to welcome new people!
Looks really cool and great video work as always.
Thank you for watching :)
Hopefully you've been able to fix it properly. The anime style looks so amazing on this, though it looks so intimidating to try
Well, it's still a bit shaky, but it works. Someday I might try a sturdier fix. Thanks, it was a very enjoyable paint job :)
You just inspire me to go back to my backlog kit that i ruined from my first time scribing, it might ruins the kit even more but at least i'll learn something.
Way to go! I have a broken MG Zaku II that I use to test paint on 😂 have fun with painting!
I got into gunpla cuz i really like giant mechas. My first kit was rx-0 unicorns lol
Unicorn is such a nice kit. Simple exterior design, but the psycho frame mode is just so awesome. One day I would like to own the PG.
I'ma try this on my rx782
Nice! Let me know how it went.
Maaaaaan. I'll light a candle for you tonight. That repair job looks rough. Otherwise, the kit looks phenomenal.
Lol thx man. That was so frustrating, I tell you 😂
I feel that
Yeah, that hurt.

Not into gunpla (yet) but im 100% painting my tau army in that style lol
Hell yeah! I got into painting Warhammer just recently, also doing Tau :D
Hallo ich bin auch deutsch ich liebe deine Videos 😅
HALLO und vielen Dank :D
Killer!!!
Thanks 🙏
Also why use markers for lines and not paint? Because it's quicker or is there something else?
Well I'm not as proficient with paint(brushes) as I am with markers. I bet since you come from tabletop miniatures you have the necessary skills to paint it with a brush. I found it rather easy to do it with a marker.
How did you paint the back part? Is it just all dark shading?
I basically used the same method that I used for the front and at times I just winged it. So it's not 100% accurate 😅
i got into gumpla from my brother and jobbythehong mg zaku custom review
That's so nice that you guys have a hobby to share :)
A bit late but uhmm did you top coat yours?
Yes, I used flat top coat once before painting and after everything was done.
Oh nein. Das falsche Bein😅. Zum Glück keine knie op😂
Wäre es das Knie, hätte ich wohl hingeschmissen 😂
Super nice painrjob
Thanks a bunch!

THE HI NU WASN'T IN THE ANIME THO
That is true. Would have loved to see this version in the anime.
