Thanks for this video. Might have been good to point out that you don't know if the spade finesse creates a trick until you see the queen fall under the king. If west has the rest of the spades then you will get the same three spades you would get by just leading to the 7 (I think).
You're welcome! The spade finesse creates a trick whether it wins or loses. As you have correctly pointed out, we can create this same trick by leading the 5 to the 7. The difference is that if the finesse works, we create two tricks (if they don't cover) and two tricks if they cover and the 6 falls under the king or the 8. We can promote the 8 or the 7 by losing to the queen, but better to take the finesse and give yourself the chance for the extra trick (four total spade tricks instead of just three). You are correct in pointing out we can create this same trick either way by maximizing the power of our 8 and 7. West should actually have covered the 7 with the Q, playing the 2 was an error. Covering would have promoted the 6 of spades in the East hand and then we would have only gotten that one extra trick, instead of two.
