  • Yup after many requests, here it is! How to waltz or Cyr Wheel 101. In this video i go over symmetry in the wheel, the roll by start, and how to propel your waltz to infinity and beyond!
    *LIST OF THINGS I FORGOT TO MENTION IN THE VIDEO*
    1)If you spin to the right you're gonna have to translate this video from leftish to rightish
    2)Stand on your "tippy-toes"/"ball of foot" this lets you use your ankle, a whole extra joint for balance!
    3)HOMEWORK: There are 4 ways you can trust your weight, find them all! (Hint: 2 of them are done with the body in front of the wheel!)

    Thx for your teaching. I live in Hong Kong,since in Hong Kong I am the only one who own and learning cyr wheel, so there no right way to learn. And I am afraid it will easily get injury if learning in wrong way. so hope you can have more teaching videos to help me to learning this art. Thx so much.

    Thank you freedomcaller for your great wheel tutorials. I just recently purchased a cyr wheel and am learning to use it by myself. I haven't found a scene in Victoria b.c. Where I live. I appreciate the way you explain all the details so well and thoroughly. It's been a punishing learning curve bit I think it's coming along. 3 weeks in and I still can't quite figure out how to waltz. Getting close though. Cheers.

    Its been a slow gradual process with the harder moves requiring more and more muscles. At no point did i stop and say i need to lift weights or im not strong enough, but at first a long watlz session was a bit of a workout, then things like hangs and flags really worked my muscles, and now ill work on handwaltzes for like an hour or two and that's a workout. Since i started last September, I've lost like 10lbs and gained a bunch of muscle, you can probably see the diff in my old videos vs new.

    Very helpful, thanks. You have a good sense of instruction; conveying information in a number of different ways, and anticipating what might not be clear to a newbie. As one develops a skill, it's easy to completely forget that what used to be the hardest elements even exist.
    It's almost like it's yer job or somethin'.

    Thanks for the well done video.
    I made my own wheel after looking at a ton of "how to"s.
    It's kind of obvious that not many newcomers understand the construction of the wheel.
    I would appreciate any constructive corrections, but this is how I built mine, successfully the very first time. :0)
    I Bought two 20' sections of 1/4" thickness (wall) 1.5" aluminum tubing from a metal supplier, (or a welding company) $75 each ( 2 for two wheels)
    One inexpensive manual roller bender for 1.5" pipe from Northern Freight Co. ($95)
    50 feet of 1.5" (ID) by 2" (OD) clear PVC Tubing from WW Grainger Supply for $150. ( that's enough for two wheels) and the minimum order available is 50'.
    Bending the tubing is not too difficult for two people. but there is definitely a trick to doing it right the first time.
    Secondly, sliding on the PVC outer cover is a cast Iron bit(h, but there is a trick to that too. I will gladly share my tricks but I don't want to make the worlds longest comment here.
    I would have had a lighter wheel with a thinner wall pipe (tubing) but the risk of puckering the tube as you bend it is greater. My wheel weighs about 30 lbs, and I have heard that heavier is better for learning on, but don't know if I still believe it.
    Any comments or questions?
    Again, thanks for your experience, knowledge and examples.

    Thanks a lot dude, you make my day ! I'm learning cyr wheel for almost 2 weeks, practicing every day, and I'd really like to thank you for all your tutorials ! Just one question : Is there plastic on your wheel ? PVC ? I saw you practicing outside, what kind of ground was it ? Mine has a protection made of rubber "caoutchouc", it's almost already dead and it doesn't slide very good. Thanks for answering.
    Lots of energy to you !

    Hi!!
    Tell me please, how heavy your cyr wheel is.
    My first wheel was aluminum and it was 4 kilograms.
    Than I made stainless wheel and started spin better because of heavy (9 kilograms).

    • @jastafaraj
      @jastafaraj 10 лет назад

      Hello!
      Minimum weight of Cyr is something around 11-14 kg (aluminium) max 20-25 (steel)
      If is weight lower than this wheel is not safe and can easly bend.

    Yeah my wheel has a coating, you want a coating unless your spinning on a surface that is too grippy like really soft marley or something.

    Would it be better to have the tape covering on the cyr when practising outside? I just got mine and I'm not sure if I should order the covering, but I'm also afraid I might damage the cyr if I practise without extra covering.

  • @ziggystarpup9918

    What would you recommend for a surface to use the wheel on? I've heard dance floors and hardwood like you've got here is ideal, but I don't have anything like that at home. Is a rubber-ish, gym floor ok? And how about outdoors on concrete? I'd just be afraid of putting too much wear and tear on my wheel.

    • @freedomcaller
      @freedomcaller  8 лет назад

      +Cormac Gillis Rubberish floors are usually too grippy, but you never know if you don't try. Any out door surface will start to grind down your wheel much faster than indoor surfaces. That said there are good outdoor surfaces and bad ones. The good ones are smooth painted tennis and basketball courts or polished concrete (more of an indoor surface tbh). Asphalt and regular concrete will really wear down your wheels skin fast. But the easiest way to tell a good outdoor surface from a bad one is how well the wheel spins. If your wheel slows to a stop after like one or two spins then the surface is too rough/grippy, and is probably chewing up your wheel.

    • @ziggystarpup9918
      @ziggystarpup9918 8 лет назад

      +freedomcaller Alright, thank you very much! I'll keep in mind and try to seek something out that'll work. :)

    • @freedomcaller
      @freedomcaller  8 лет назад

      +Cormac Gillis If you practice outdoors enough to wear down a skin to the point of replacement, you'll more than deeply enough in the cyr wheel hole to fork over the cash for re-skinning and maybe even a second wheel. If your often on on surfaces that are too rough you'll end up favoring rolling tricks to spinning tricks.
