Yea.. trying to think.. everyone was effected in one way or another. Someone had some sort of loss, either someone they cared about or they themselves died or suffered greatly. Fate/Zero that is. Fate/Stay Night .. well, its mostly still people who have already been screwed over due to one thing or another that has happened. Vehement Badger I agree, but I would add one word in there: The best ACTION anime ever created. I do not think action alone surpasses plot. Look at Stein's Gate, Parasyte, Code Geass, Mirai Nikki. But if action is what you seek this anime is definetely amazing

Fate/Zero is a masterpiece. The plot is dark, mature (no annoying teen highschool bs) and just plain amazing. The character development is superb, especially with Sabers relationship with Emiya. Stunning fight scenes and top notch animation. This is definitely one of those rare gems of an anime.
xxUrek Not really, GoT more focuses on the political aspects, and is overall much more detailed; F/Z is more about ideology and pure action. They're both good, but I don't think a comparison is really fair

I love Fate Zero. Finished season 1 and season 2. The old FSN isn't bad, but not good either. The new adaption of FSN is vastly better, and I really enjoy FSN. I really like Heaven's Feel and UBW's routes. (Not a fan of the Fate route.) I hope the Heaven's Feel movie will be good and have more than one. It's such an amazing anime, complicated and full of great ideas. One of the best anime's for me.
This is what happens when an anime ditches the usual stupid high school characters trying to save the world. It becomes serious and bad ass. It's just the ending which I found disapointing

i repeat it again, do not bother with the fate stay night made by deen from 2002 (?), the main fails next to the animation is that they messed up with the story. also the reason is that the fate route is the weakest route of all. unlimited blade work (which got a film, but another kinda fail by deen) and heavens feels (not animated yet, also comparable as a sequel to fate zero because sakura) are better in story line. well, no matter how bad ufotable do, they wont be worse than the deen version...
i loved fate/zero mostly because all the characters are adults it got us away from the highschool protect everyone mc, ubw was kinda ok for me (fuck shirou)although the animation is godlike.
You should try to read the visual novel, the anime is not a "good" adaptation (not bad as the fate/stay night 2006 adaptation but still being bad) they make Fate/Stay night UBW looks like a stupid shonnen whith a lot of stupid explosions and even they made the characters look generic ass fuck....

If anything, there's WAAAAAAAAAAY more of the highschool bullshit in the visual novels >< Tried reading the novels on uploaded youtube videos of it, and what I'm about to tell you is totally the truth here....the first close to ten hours of Shirou's story.....are nothing but high school bullshit >< HELL! There was a scene where they spent over FORTY FIVE MINUTES.....talking about nothing more than living arrangements!!!! (IE, the short 5 minute scene in the anime where they talk about who all is living in Shirou's house is massively and pointlessly expanded in the visual novel). The visual novel drags shit out to the extreme when it comes to boring side stuff and spends more time with irrelevant characters that are Shirou's classmates and teachers. I highly recommend AVOIDING that if you don't like high school drama thrown in. The novel does spend more time with some cool stuff as well, but.....in my opinion from what I read compared to what I watched....the anime cutting the slice of life shit down to a more manageable dose (NEARLY TEN HOURS!!! That's like....an entire anime series worth of time spent on NOTHING but high school before we even get to the first confrontation with Illya and Hercules outside the church!) was infinitely more valuable to me than missing out on slightly more long winded discussions about magic and mages >

The Urobuchi style dark gritty scenes were also pretty hit or miss, the choking scene was great for example but the Kiritsugu crying scene (after he kills a certain someone using a rocket) was really weak. Am I just being to critical, does the CG seriously not bother anyone else? Either way I watched the show with my younger brother and he thought it was great, we both like Type-Moon, Ufotable and 100% Fate before watching so maybe it's just me.

HiddenMelody The war in FSN started early and caught everyone unprepared with mostly teenage successors to the previous families. Though in all honesty, aside from Kiritsugu's tactics it's not really that much different. Hell in FSN the competitors screwed with the rules a lot more.

While Illyasviel know when will the war will begin since she is the embodiment of the grail while Lancer's master Bazzett was fully prepared because it was part of her mission ... and last but not the least was Caster's original Master who actually has a stock of sacrifices needed to ensure his victory

The teacher assassin was just in it because, so it doesn't count. Caster took the rights to assassin so there was another spot taken. What the hell are you talking about? Inform yourself better. Also, for ''not being a war'', shit seriously escalated way beyond the fourth war. Saying it was kids playing just because there were younger people sounds stupid.
HiddenMelody the holy grail war in stay night is messed up because of the fourth and third war. also it was written originally in visual novel format, so you really don't get to see the other characters AS much than you do in zero --- since most of the stuff you see/read is from shirou

Zero has more focus on the overall situation (with the exclusion of Kiritsugus backstory), while Stay/Night focuses more on the characters and their relations to each other. At least that's the way it feels to me.

Robz Sarmy Don't forget UBW. It wasn't to that extent, but shit was OP. According to word of god, actually perfecting tracing and UBW till they are correctly usable would take about 20 years in total. Shirou took a huge leap of about almost all of that and still has time remaining. He'll end up more beast than Archer.
Well, it's kind of tough to be honest. Although Zero is a prequel to Stay Night it's 90% barely related backstory and a few spoilers, like Kotomine's goals and personality, which makes his actions in the other series painfully obvious and predictable. You could say it makes Kiritsugu more of a character than a shadow, but it doesn't have almost any influence on how we perceive SN's events. If you watch SN first you're spoiled to who lived and died, which is pretty freaking major considering Zero's nature. Once again we're shown how Kotomine behaves, predictable actions, yade yada. I've read Zero's novels first and the only thing between the two was that I could watch it from kind of a "godly" viewpoint: I've seen history make a circle and added two plus two. Watching SN first would only bring spoilers. I'm gonna go to the nerd closet now. Also Zero is ridiculously sad and I wanna forget all about it.
Ktoto Tamskij It's straight up called Fate/Zero. You can find all 4 volumes translated on Baka Tsuki right now. Stay Night only exists in visual novel form as far as I know, and I think you can find that on BT as well.
Did anyone else notice how big the animation budget for fate/zero must have been. That is like all i could think about for half time i watched the 25 episode series. I expect movie budgets to have better animation and art but this show had better animation than half the movies ive seen... and it was 25 episodes long.

Both Kiritsugu and Shiro are awesome, but in Shiro's case, he's awesome in UBW and Heaven's feel, in Fate he's pretty plain and kind of a sidekick to Saber. Anyways, there're a lot of great characters, Rider zero, Lancer, Archer, Assassin...
I like Red Archer so I don't spoil anything for anyone. The pessimistic smart ass personality and being crushed under the weight of his ideals just makes him great especially when you learn his true identity. I also like fake assassin. He was a bad ass.

Alex Dunn If you have Netflix, they recently put Zero up for streaming. Watch the Japanese audio, the english dub is awful. Your other alternatives are Hulu (not recommended) or Crunchyroll.

Yeah Shirou is pretty much a pussy: "People die if they are killed" and a poor excuse to become out of Kiritsugu, but hey: Archer has an amazing fighting style ;P
And yet I find that watching them in chronological order is incredibly enjoyable. And, in contrast to you, I speak from experience. If it sounds like I'm being harsh BTW, imagine I'm speaking in a Brittish accent. I find that seeing the characters you loved in Fate/Zero reappear really is an awesome thing. Quite honestly I would not much enjoy Fate/Stay Night if I had not watched Fate/Zero and wasn't all gleeful seeing what happened next, and how the story ends. Now ima go drink tea.
Just finished watching Fate/Zero, the second season was so much better than the first one!!! LOVED IT. The ending was a bit so-so, but I hope Fate/Stay Night will make up for it. Amazing AMV :)

HiddenMelody The war in FSN started early and caught everyone unprepared with mostly teenage successors to the previous families. Though in all honesty, aside from Kiritsugu's tactics it's not really that much different. Hell in FSN the competitors screwed with the rules a lot more.

Matou's are prepared like ever since the last war ended but their representative is just a pussy. While Illyasviel know when will the war will begin since she is the embodiment of the grail while Lancer's master Bazzett was fully prepared because it was part of her mission ... and last but not the least was Caster's original Master who actually has a stock of sacrifices needed to ensure his victory
HiddenMelody Shirou doesn't know shit, Shinji wasn't supposed to be the representative, it was Sakura, ALSO unprepared. Bazett was out, so she doesn't count. The teacher assassin was just in it because, so it doesn't count. Caster took the rights to assassin so there was another spot taken. What the hell are you talking about? Inform yourself better. Also, for ''not being a war'', shit seriously escalated way beyond the fourth war. Saying it was kids playing just because there were younger people sounds stupid.
HiddenMelody the holy grail war in stay night is messed up because of the fourth and third war. also it was written originally in visual novel format, so you really don't get to see the other characters AS much than you do in zero --- since most of the stuff you see/read is from shirou
+HiddenMelody Fate/Zero and Fate Stay/Night had different writers. Probably one reason. Zero has more focus on the overall situation (with the exclusion of Kiritsugus backstory), while Stay/Night focuses more on the characters and their relations to each other. At least that's the way it feels to me.

Robz Sarmy Don't forget UBW. It wasn't to that extent, but shit was OP. According to word of god, actually perfecting tracing and UBW till they are correctly usable would take about 20 years in total. Shirou took a huge leap of about almost all of that and still has time remaining. He'll end up more beast than Archer.

Well, it's kind of tough to be honest. Although Zero is a prequel to Stay Night it's 90% barely related backstory and a few spoilers, like Kotomine's goals and personality, which makes his actions in the other series painfully obvious and predictable. You could say it makes Kiritsugu more of a character than a shadow, but it doesn't have almost any influence on how we perceive SN's events. If you watch SN first you're spoiled to who lived and died, which is pretty freaking major considering Zero's nature. Once again we're shown how Kotomine behaves, predictable actions, yade yada. I've read Zero's novels first and the only thing between the two was that I could watch it from kind of a "godly" viewpoint: I've seen history make a circle and added two plus two. Watching SN first would only bring spoilers.
I'm gonna go to the nerd closet now.
Also Zero is ridiculously sad and I wanna forget all about it.

It's straight up called Fate/Zero. You can find all 4 volumes translated on Baka Tsuki right now. Stay Night only exists in visual novel form as far as I know, and I think you can find that on BT as well.
Did anyone else notice how big the animation budget for fate/zero must have been. That is like all i could think about for half time i watched the 25 episode series. I expect movie budgets to have better animation and art but this show had better animation than half the movies ive seen... and it was 25 episodes long.
and now they are reanimating fate/stay night in the same quality and it will probably be just as long!

Both Kiritsugu and Shiro are awesome, but in Shiro's case, he's awesome in UBW and Heaven's feel, in Fate he's pretty plain and kind of a sidekick to Saber. Anyways, there're a lot of great characters, Rider zero, Lancer, Archer, Assassin...

Hakko Hei Technically, you can watch them in either order. Zero was made as a prequel to Stay Night. They both spoil bits of each other. Alex Dunn If you have Netflix, they recently put Zero up for streaming. Watch the Japanese audio, the english dub is awful. Your other alternatives are Hulu (not recommended) or Crunchyroll.

Not bad too. Just bad. Wanted to rewatch it, but it wasn´t possible bc it really is boring and doesn´t make sense at some points. Yet UBW Characters can hold the bar with the ones in Zero, you got to admit that the story revolving around Archer and Shirou is pretty cool!

And yet I find that watching them in chronological order is incredibly enjoyable. And, in contrast to you, I speak from experience. If it sounds like I'm being harsh BTW, imagine I'm speaking in a Brittish accent.
I find that seeing the characters you loved in Fate/Zero reappear really is an awesome thing. Quite honestly I would not much enjoy Fate/Stay Night if I had not watched Fate/Zero and wasn't all gleeful seeing what happened next, and how the story ends. Now ima go drink tea.
