He IS part of the family. I gave up my chiropractor treatment money so HE could have his treatment done instead of me.
As a person who's been around horses for years, I must ask - is meat really the only option? Considering the horses' pasts, I refuse to believe no one'd buy them even for simple leisure riding.

I have a friend that travels all over the world to save horses from slaughter. If they can not be ridden then she uses them as companion pets for the other horses but they are all treated the same way. They get just as much love and attention as her other horses. She has over 200 horses all living happy and healthy with her in Italy.
What the heck?! I don't get this. That horse had more years to live! Just because the horse can't race or breed, doesn't mean you can't still love it for it's past! They should take care of that horse and try to keep it as long as possible and not using horses for food….
They are using them for food and for other things. God also said he put animals on earth for man to use. Letting them die of old age, or using them for their meat and to make other food for your pets. If the animal gets old and can be used for food I say use the animal like god intended.
I guess the most ethical way to slaughter horses is to rather wait until they die of old age but still have a decent life. Probably the closest thing to the most ethical. The horses wouldn’t really care that much about their shells or corpse you may say.
We may not be able to control it directly, but by buying their products we are supporting it and making sure that it continues. By going vegetarian, you'll save 100 animals a year (and that's in addition to helping the animals who live with you!)

In Asia they believe that the adrenaline the animal relases when panicing and suffering makes the meat taste a lot better, and helps with erection for men. And also, they don't share our modern humanized view on animals.

The horse slaughter happens in the United States as well. While President Obama has just passed a bill effectively ending the slaughter within our borders, it is still legal for horses to be transported to Mexico and Canada to be killed. This happens all the time.

Just like to say both War Emblem and Charismatic were given to Old Friends retirement farm in Kentucky after this video. Charismatic passed away earlier this year from a paddock incident and War Emblem is doing very well. I just got to visit him not long ago and he loves it there!

Both my babies were ex racers, one Thoroughbred and one Standardbred....I have taught both over the five years if having them, to jump and other things, and both are now brilliant show horses and the best horses I have owned, they be with me for life! Not all ex racers and stallions need to be slaughtered.
I don't agree with killing off the horses once they retire. But I know horses would overpopulate if we didn't do this. There aren't enough rich people in America to buy horses. If our economy was more balanced, everyone could afford to own a horse, but it's just impossible. There would just be too many homeless horses, both on the range and out of it, because humans are constantly breeding them. And keep in mind that these horses were bred in captivity, not in the wild. Releasing them would do more harm to the ecosystem. Just listen to the figure "More than 1000 horses die from catastrophic break-downs from racing." Where would you send 1000 injured horses? If horse racing is going to continue (AND IT WILL, since it brings in a ton of revenue), then horse meat will continue to be sold. That's just the way it is. When thinking about the larger picture beyond your feelings for horses, you have to be realistic. What's your alternative? Racing is not going to end. Where you would you send hundreds of thousands of unwanted race horses? Slaughter is probably the only option for the racing industry.

I'm very happy that at my riding club there's a horse named Prince who's am ex Race horse !! ( In Thailand ). He had a very successor Carreer , famous race horse. Until he had an injury breaking his leg, no longer being suitable for racing. I don't know his full story but I'm glad he's at my riding club now, He is a joy to ride!

I'm sorry mate but I too worked in the Thoroughbred Racing Industry for 15 yrs in both the racing and breeding sides, I wish it were true, but not all racehorses are lucky enough to go to good homes. The market is saturated a lot don't even make it to the track before breaking down in training. it's a hard cut sport and there's more horses being wasted than raced. It's a rich bastards sport and like Greyhound racing, if they can't make money or no longer can keep pace they are retired, from there only a handful are lucky to find good homes.
Horses aren't exactly "Overbred". A lot of the horses taken to the slaughter farms are pure wild horses. These poor racing horses weren't overbred. They're ignorant owners got rid of them.

It sounds like we both agree that we've got a pretty broken ag system right now. We're not so much suggesting that we send off the grain we use to feed animals used for food to hungry people everywhere (although that would be nice of us, wouldn't it?), but more just pointing out how wasteful the meat industry is. "Sustainable" meat farming need more acres per animal, so that would take up even more land. Of course, our main position is that we shouldn't be eating animals anyway.

If our economy was more balanced, everyone could afford to own a horse, but it's just impossible. There would just be too many homeless horses, both on the range and out of it, because humans are constantly breeding them. And keep in mind that these horses were bred in captivity, not in the wild. Releasing them would do more harm to the ecosystem.
Just listen to the figure "More than 1000 horses die from catastrophic break-downs from racing." Where would you send 1000 injured horses? If horse racing is going to continue (AND IT WILL, since it brings in a ton of revenue), then horse meat will continue to be sold. That's just the way it is.
When thinking about the larger picture beyond your feelings for horses, you have to be realistic. What's your alternative? Racing is not going to end. Where you would you send hundreds of thousands of unwanted race horses? Slaughter is probably the only option for the racing industry.
I couldn't even watch this whole video, After two minutes I was done. How can people do things like this. I think slaughterhouses don't need be around,or they should at least put them down before they kill them so they won't have to suffer these horrible killings. I can't understand how someone can sleep after doing something like this. !THEY SHOULD THINK ABOUT HOW IT WOULD FEEL TO GET KILLED LIKE THAT!!!!
I'm very happy that at my riding club there's a horse named Prince who's am ex Race horse !!
( In Thailand ).
He had a very successor Carreer , famous race horse.
Until he had an injury breaking his leg, no longer being suitable for racing.
I don't know his full story but I'm glad he's at my riding club now,
He is a joy to ride!
I am so glad that my horse wasn't sent to one of these after he retired from racing.

People who think slaughtering of useless horses is right than suffering or whatever. Answer this: why is that I never saw any slaughter houses for poor,sick and handicapped people?Instead they are given more care and importance. Also why isn't that any animal suicide? Because they love their life and will fight to survive no matter what cause they love their life also just like we do.

I totally agree at the barn I ride at , there is a horse named Mr and im prety sure they saved him but he was a racehorse and whenever he did one thing wrong , they would twist his head and so now if you pet his face he puts his head up and he is a great horse with a great home and hes jumping and happy

@Morgan painter. I'm sorry mate but I too worked in the Thoroughbred Racing Industry for 15 yrs in both the racing and breeding sides, I wish it were true, but not all racehorses are lucky enough to go to good homes.
The market is saturated a lot don't even make it to the track before breaking down in training. it's a hard cut sport and there's more horses being wasted than raced. It's a rich bastards sport and like Greyhound racing, if they can't make money or no longer can keep pace they are retired, from there only a handful are lucky to find good homes.
All these people are getting triggered at horses lmao they don’t realise the same thing happens to sheep, cows, pigs, chickens and sea animals.

Horses aren't exactly "Overbred". A lot of the horses taken to the slaughter farms are pure wild horses. These poor racing horses weren't overbred. They're ignorant owners got rid of them.
For the person who said why dont people feel the same way about cows pigs chickens ducks seals exc. I do. Im vegan and any kind of animal torture or killing is wrong. They say its natural. Its not natural ! The natural way is to let them live a happy free life and die from old age
don't EVER assume that those who support horse racing, support slaughter. I work in the race industry and myself, nor the owner/trainer I work for would ever send any to slaughter. We take good care of our horses. Just because Japan likes to slaughter and eat the meat, does not mean we all do. Japan should STOP over breeding.

I can't believe these Americans would sell their award winning horses to strangers. They deserve a heartfelt tribute for their careers, not a quiet death in a slaughterhouse for food.

I honestly think horse racing should shut down in all countries I know for some people its in entertainment but there are plenty of other sports you can watch I also know for other people its there job but for those who horse racing is there job there is more risk of you losing your horse horses do not deserve to be forced to race In a pen or be killed they have done nothing wrong and do not deserve to be killed they are wild animals that isn't just a thing there wild animals and they deserve to live there life as long as possible🙏 not be killed instantly. same goes for all other animals😌

Slaughtered for meat, so the spirits of these horses live on in the stomachs and sewer systems of japan. At least someone is getting use out of these horses that can't win anymore.

It sounds like we both agree that we've got a pretty broken ag system right now. We're not so much suggesting that we send off the grain we use to feed animals used for food to hungry people everywhere (although that would be nice of us, wouldn't it?), but more just pointing out how wasteful the meat industry is. "Sustainable" meat farming need more acres per animal, so that would take up even more land. Of course, our main position is that we shouldn't be eating animals anyway.
