  • Mercedes-Benz has launched the estate version of its popular C-Class. Under the bonnet among others is a 1.6 litre petrol engine. Is is enough to move a compact executive car with passengers and their luggage on board?
The car was awarded Euro NCAP Best in Class 2014.
Mercedes-Benz C-Class won the 2015 World Car of the Year Award.

I have done a testdrive in both de C180, C200 and GLA 180.
The C is extremely quiet at 120 km/h. I also have done a 30km home-work trip to see how much it used. 70% highway, 30% local roads and came up with 7,1L/100km.
The C200 drives a bit nicer especially at higher speeds and overtaking, but amazingly made the same 7,1L/100km.
Steering by the ay improves when using the sport or sport+ option. Or select your individual settings.
Agree about the black shiny interior, get the matte wood option. This puts the 3 series interior to shame. Because that is the real weak point of the 3 series. Sub level leather and bad trim and material choice.

You can't criticize the interior design, it's far more better than the previous generation and than the current generation BMW 3 series, it's absolutely top-notch. Moreover, it's been designed in Como, Italy. And everybody knows Italians do it better.
Actually, I feel like you don't really like Mercedes cars.

Thanks for an honest review! I love Mercedes, too, but having owned several models, know that they are not without their shortcomings.

3:51 Don't forget it's an entry engine. For a quiet driving up to 120 kmh I think a VW Polo with a 1.0 litre engine will do it. The engine of the C180 is ok even for speeds up to 200. The noise level is rather low. Only the wind noise is standing out but that's due to a low r.p.m. level.
For 4 months i drive the predecessor as an estate with the same motor and the 7G-Tronic Plus gear box. Even when driving on winter wheels, the fuel consumption is around 8 litres (17 inch rims) in a mixed cycle. Now with higher temperatures i could reduce it to 7 litres and I expect a little bit more when changing to the summer wheels. It's possible if you focus your driving style on fuel economy.
The fuel consumption on the German Autobahn was a bit less than 9 Litres doing a 140 kmh average (up to 210 kmh).

My fuel economy tests are not exactly scientific, but I usually drive all my test cars along the same routes, similar distances, and I try to follow eco driving principles (unless it's a sporty car, which requires a different test drive). I realise traffic in your area may be different, but this is what I get along my test routes, and based on my results I am able to compare the cars I test.
I also realise this is an entry engine, and it is not designed to do long motorway journeys, but to do city driving. But in the city it still uses considerable amounts of petrol, and the price difference from a bigger, more universal engine is not that much. Again, depending on the market one has to take taxes and eco incentives into consideration, and I am aware of that.
BTW, I like W204 more, than the W205.

Marek Drives If I am not wrong those Mercedes-Benz A, B and C series are using small Renault engines.

Charlles Pereira Costa Yes and no ;)
In the A-Class there is a 1.5 diesel, which comes from Nissan-Renault Alliance. In the C-Class there is a 2-litre petrol, which is also used by Infiniti (part of Nissan-Renault) in the Q50.

I got 3l/100KM from an Audi a6 BiTDI, cruising at 120KMH with a few traffic jams, and rest breaks along the way. It was on straight Autobahn, for 240KM.

Not bad. I managed around 3 with a 1.6 diesel Fiesta, but on some backroads, driving no more than 90 km/h.

Bi Turbo Diesel and 3l/100km ? Yeah right :D A6 has at least 2.0 engine so this fuel consumption and 120kph it's a bad joke man.

What a negative bullshit review, cars handling is realy top and steering very precise. The 1.6 T engine performs great and is far from slow. Interior is the best quality at the moment. I can not take this video serious. Btw i own this car so i know what iam talking about.

By chance I came back to this 4 years old video. How you leave the class in the bad light is unbelievable. Mercedes Benz bashing pure. This C class does not need to be sporty or sharp with its 1.6 liter engine, for which the more powerful engines and AMG are responsible. The key points are comfort and quality at Mercedes Benz. Claims about bad isolation at highway speed is ridiculous. Exactly these are the key points of this car, isolation comfort ... Maybe you have a bad of the former models caught or a Monday car, Get a facelift and test again the W205. Just because you do not like Mercedes Benz, the car can not help it. pfff

But drive them for 6h on the autobahn with some music on, thats what they are made for. commuting for some minutes just take a kia picanto. you can buy 3 kia picantos for the price of one toyota auris
