People who don't like that people get rid of valuable things: It has no value if it's not being used. It's just an object collecting dust and wasted money he spent on it in the first place. I'm sure he sold the valuable items or gave them to people who wanted them, and allowed other people to get the value from them if he isn't! Value isn't just monetary. The value the item actually gives to your life is more important.
Talking about my own experience, despite I´ve been always a minimalist I do regret decluttering some emotional items. We change over time and may realise that we were too young then to evaluate how precious some items were. Nowadays I´d be specially careful when decluttering things related to the family history or if I was feeling hurt/sad.
This was brutal in the best way. Really well done. I want to add that you are definitely an artist, both your physical paintings/drawings and your editing/videography.
Just in case you haven't read it yet, the book 'Goodbye Things' by Fumio Sasaki is really inspiring and became one of my personal favorites. I liked your way of editing btw. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for the recommendation! Come to think of it, i was halfway through the audiobook and totally forgotten about it. I should check it out once more. Really appreciate your comment, will keep making more!
Never did this challenge but I removed 20 items from my room after watching a video of yours few weeks back. This challenge you propose seems like something I might try once I’m back in Singapore.
Wow! My head is spinning but I love the way you did this! I started my minimalism journey just a few years ago and so I envy you starting so young! Keep up the great work. Your parents might like what they see and come around to your way of thinking.😊
I really really enjoyed this video! I can deeply understand and appreciate in a personal level when people declutter and decide to live a minimalist life. Letting go of things is a difficult road is not an overnight decision... during my path to minimalism I cried and felt frustrated but when I got in the right mind set I realized that the things I was crying over were just collecting dust in my room and I didn’t even know were there until I decided to declutter. I am so much more happy now and I get to enjoy the little and meaningful things in life that I can carry with me everywhere
Thanks for the comment! I'm happy that you enjoyed it! So glad that by owning less can bring so much value to you! Always love to hear different stories from fellow minimalist.
Thank you. I have seen many videos of this type, but yours is the first that intelligently evaluates the benefit of this 30-day game beyond 'getting rid of stuff'. I have now subscribed to your channel.
I love that you showed your mess and shared your failure - brave! "Fail up" as they say! You have just inspired me to try a game: each time I take my dogs for their walks (in a Chicago neighborhood full of "little free libraries") I will carry out one item to donate to the libraries or to the thrift store two blocks away. I just found 3 empty eyeglass cases. Off we go! Thank you!!
You’re very intelligent and enlightened for a young man. I wish more people would think like you. If you are worried about losing a memory, you can always take a photo of the items you’re decluttering. Basically it’s true that we keep most items to hold on to memories but a photo will do the trick as well and it takes up a lot less space. At the beginning of October I will try the minimalism game. I’ve tried it once before but also bailed out halfway through. Thanks for the inspiration.
You're right. I'm half way through my challenge and it's getting tough for me. However, thanks for the encouragement. I'll keep it going strong. Btw, love your videos.

Thanks for this video. It really gave me the courage to toss sentimental items. Minimalism is a continuous life habit and sometimes it is difficult but it surely is rewarding.
Thank you for this video. I'm going to start decluttering my room and let go of unnecessary things I had through the years :) Hope more people will get to notice your video. From 🇵🇭 :)
I am on day #3 of 30 day declutter challenge before I go on vacation, and I have threw out loads of stuff and I feel so exhausted. So far I got two closets down, and two dressers and two more to go! It took me forever to declutter my health beauty supplies. 🤣 I am decluttering my entire bathroom spare closet and my writing space today. I plan to have my entire house decluttered by September. I plan to have a trunk full of stuff and loads of more garbage bags to put out tomorrow, I hope the garbage man don't charge me extra, I am going to tip them. 🤣
You inspired me to try out the 30-day minimalism game myself! I've just finished day 3 now and am keeping myself accountable by taking pictures of what I throw away :-)
Loving this channel man! I have too been in the process of minimalism. Now I only own a one pair of common projects Achilles lows in white, 5 black tees, 5 white tees, acne studio black jeans, apc raw jeans, a cheap cap, one Carhartt wip Detroit organic jacket, Calvin klien winter jacket and that's it for my daily wear!
Nice to see The Minimalists content with Matt D'Avella vibes set in the Singaporean context! Hit me in the feels when I could relate to some of the stuff u got rid of lol. Made me rethink the items I could let go of from my room too. Great content!
I'm a very sentimental person too. I keep gifts from my brothers, ex girlfriends, kids. I keep old film strips from when i was 15 and I don't even want them but I still have them lol. My bedroom has always been cluttered and I never noticed until my parents moved (this is when I use to live with them). I always had too many boxes when we moved. After we moved into the new houses, I still had multiple boxes still packed from 4 yrs ago. Thats crazy lol. I kept telling my parents "it's special bcuz....blah blah blah" or "this person gave it to me and I have to to keep it". I still have a hard time throwing stuff away bcuz "what if i need it one day" or "i should keep this just in case". I still have boxes at my parents place that I continue to keep and I am slowly going though them and getting ride of stuff. I have lived in my small basement suite for a year and a half and i need to get rid of a lot of stuff (still packed in boxes) bcuz I have no room for it. My place is very small lol. I still continue to buy art supplies...why? Bcuz I I have all these plans on how to use them and I'm not doing it. I have no motivation, I guess. Anyways I have rambled on for a long time. Thank you for sharing and making this video, it was very helpful! 😁🙏🖖
It's an inspiring challenge! I did konmari method 2 years ago. When I tried this challenge now, I found many things again. I got to day 19. Thank you for your inspiring content.
Thank you for this video. I'm consider myself as sentimental person, and grew up in a hoarder's house. My journey started when I moved out, that's when I realized what I really needed, and what I don't. I've been decluttering every other 2-3 months. For example, checking in my closet again, stuff that was in the "maybe" pile, which is really no different from "just in case." I personally have difficulty letting go some of my clothes, because I know I'll probably end up buying again, so I feel that's the challenge now, too. My main challenge is to convince my mother to get rid of anything 😂😂😂
Congratulations. It's certainly difficult to declutter but one had to do it. I went through it because I HAD to while moving out of my apartment.. ..it was very difficult......one day I'll document it. ....cheers
I used to collect, buy many 'Just in case' stuff and keep sentimental stuff, so the amount of things in my tiny dorm room is overwhelming. I try to donate what I can, pass on clothes that don't fit me to my sister and cousin and throw away stuff that are no use to me. I'll be moving into a new room soon, so spring cleaning is coming early. I hope I can make the new space easier to clean and less stressful.
