We want to share our passion for efficient, sustainable homesteading that brings the family together. On our homestead we do chemical-free gardening, grass-fed milk and beef, pastured eggs and broiler chickens, and free range children :) We love to go on adventures as a family, so if we're not workin on the farm, we're probably hiking or out getting ice cream. We're all into DIY, and being inventive and creative. We believe in homesteading that's sustainable, not just sustainable homesteading. In other words, we want to show you that homesteading doesn't have to wear you out to the point that you give it up. We've seen it happen, and almost came to that point ourselves. So go ahead and take a whack at that subscribe button if you'd like to join us on this crazy ride. Get ready to learn and be inspired!
You can roast those frozen green beans! Add a little oil, salt, pepper and garlic and roast at 425F until lightly browned. They don’t taste frozen if you roast them. Add some cherry tomatoes or diced tomatoes if you like. So good!!!
Yum!😋
Yummy good😊
Maybe label the outside of your fridge and freezers with dry erase to keep track of what's inside then erase as you use? Just a tip I use and it's really helpful
Great idea😊
That is a great idea
Good morning! I'm so glad to see that you all posted today ❤ I don't know if you reply to comments or even read them for that matter, but I wanted to ask if you had ever thought about making clarified butter, or ghee, to save space in your freezer? It makes butter shelf stable, and the taste is leaps and bounds above regular butter. It also gives the butter a higher smoking point so that you can fry things in it, and the taste is so yummy. Have a great day, ✌️ ❤
They read and respond to comments, mine, at least.
G'Day from Australia 👋🐨
I enjoy your videos & Thanks for sharing 👍🌱 Do you trade any produce with your local community. We have started to in our community. It's fantastic ❤🌿 Everybody loves it 👍
This always seems like a great barometer for who you want to watch for gardening advice - do they have excess that they show you how to conserve/preserve through canning, drying, processing, etc. Thanks for bringing the best!
You two are so darn cute!
🥰🥰
Especially the young lady.
Great harvest, well done.
Can you say the temp of your carrot fridge. My fridge is really cold and the carrots go black.
Good question👍🏼
I enjoy watching your channel. It inspires me to grow more food. Could I suggest during the winter months you post more recipes about how you use all those garden vegetables? If I know what to do with them I'm more likely to grow them.
You guys have a wonderful pantry! Thanks for sharing. I love Superb lids been using them for about 3 years now and will never go back to the cheaper lids.
I very much enjoy your videos. They have grown and become great quality.
Thank you! Glad you enjoy them!
You two are amazing. Thank you for sharing!
Freezer is life. 👍
Almost 200K subbies 🎉🎉🎉🎉 The ability to produce your own food is wealth. You are really an inspiration to me 😊❤
Thanks again for another amazing video. Michelle, I love it when you do an opps. You're so adorable.
Now i think i know how to render my tullow. Last time i did it, the aroma was unbearable. The dog enjoyed. Next time i will add water and salt.
But why did you grind it? Is it a must to grind the fat?
Since you have soooo much butter, have you ever tried making Ghee? It is not that hard, and you can store it on your shelves instead of the freezer. It is good for cooking, seasoning, baking. Just about anything that you would use lard or tallow for.
"My freezers are unorganized and... dirty" I felt that to the core! This last week, I have been cleaning the freezers, re-organizing them, cleaning my canning/preserving ,messes that seems to accumulate no matter how hard I try to keep ups!
Also, I wouldn't trade this life for a million dollars. I am very blessed that I can homestead!
My garden harvest was a bust this year because I was away all summer and it got choked out with weeds😂 I did get some things and processed what I could save. I am pressure canning chick peas today cuz I love them, and did some tomatoes last month from a case from the grocery store. You do what you can. Isn’t it so satisfying to see the shelves and freezers fill up for the winter? I love your videos so much❤❤
Hey Cody.... Take off the hand crank on that ginder and add a nut to drive it with a drill and socket. (I did that on my Garden Way Squeezo and it works great - much better than hand cranking). 😊
When you say carrots are a staple... are you just chopping them up for soups and roasting / snacking or processing them some other way like a sweet potato/carb side for dinner?
hi. another great video❤️ love, love your channel!
can you tell me what brand of burner you use for your pressure canner?
thank you
So glad you guys are
rocking along!
Both of y'all always make me laugh and forget about my problems for a while!
Blessings and Joy to you and your family!
Do you barter with other farmers for other things you need? Also do you make your own pasta like they did years ago?
When I make a roast I take all the juice from it put it in a bowl an put it in the fridge ,the next day the fat has hardened an you can take it right off like candle wax . No fat left at all . Then I pour the good stuff back on my left over roast . Im sure you could do that with your chicken broth . So easy . But an extra step . I wished I was your neighbor lol 😆
Do you have a link for the wire baskets you have the butternut squash stored in. Thanks.
Love your videos but I have a question you said you make 6 loaves of bread a week, how do you keep them fresh from not drying out. Have a blessed day!!
I've wanted to be self-sustainable for a year now, and have been trying different methods as I live in an apartment and can't grow all of my own food. You guys let me live through you for now until I can, so thank you!
19:01 That was a clever shot, grabbing the camera with your canning tongs. Very creative! 😊
Just found your page yesterday & we have been watching while roadtripping Colorado to Florida! We’re excited to start our homestead when we get back!
Welcome here!😊 Good luck on your homesteading journey! How exciting!
I LOVE your channel so much and miss the cow lol
I tried to grow sweet potatoes once and it was so much work. I tried to cure them in a back room but I think there was too much moisture because some grew mold on the outsides. I may try next growing season since I see you don’t adhere to the “curing” rules and it works for you.
I remember using suet in homemade mincemeat for pies. My neighbor grew their own beef and I'd help out. It was the best mincemeat ever.
Doing a bolt up with a pipe wrench 😱😱 You could have at least used a metric adjustable 🤣
The work in your house never end,you guys are so hard working people. Have a bless week.
Can you please do a video on how you felt your tomatoes did with the cattle panel method you used. We need a new way to do our tomatoes, as cages and staking does not work in our garden.
It would not allow me to pay for my lmt. Saying shipping change when it had not.
Just a note for when you’re editing. I’d you would be able to any text higher up otherwise subtitles cover the writing
Depending on your device you might be able to move the closed caption bar around
@@btucker1739 I didn’t think of that lol thanks
Soooooo satisfying to hear the lids POP!!!! 😊 hsve a blessed day 🙏
I use superb lids and love them. Made in USA 🙏🥰
12:31 Beautiful smile 🙂
Your children are adorable, but I love the blonde hair on the little one,
I have a white board near my freezers to track contents
I love the old fashioned grinder, etc
Looks like you finally got some rain.
Thanks for the survival tips
Great job family for stocking up on a years+ of food. Amazing video. Thank you fur sharing. Till next time God Bless.
Thanks!😊
You guys do an excellent job of feeding your family for a year!! And, you're storage systems are amazing! If you feel comfortable I would love to see a tour of your house minus your bedrooms, of course. The bits and pieces we see in the background are so beautiful! Did you build it or was it a restoration? If you already have a video of it I would love the link to it.
Not sure why my comments always post twice. If I try to delete one it deletes both.
I cleaned one of my freezers last week.
The popping sounds, music to my ears! I will be trying superb lids. Excellent video!
Every time I hear the pops after canning I tell my husband it's the most satisfying sound ever.
I have a good way to make green beans a full meal, not just a side (therefore, use more of it). Cook them to your desired texture and mix with crispy bacon, garlic and chillies. Optional, a little bit of lemon juice and parmesan. This is my favorite lunch during green beans season and you eat a lot of it at once.
Yum! Thanks for sharing!
Time saving tip for tallow rendering. I add suet chunks with water and salt in slow cooker on low for a few hours. Then I take hand blender and turn the mixture into a smoothie like texture. Let it simmer on low for 8-10 hours. I do this overnight, and wake up to tallow all settled on top. Super easy to deal with. I just scoop up the fat from top. Discard the rest. Very little labour involved.
Thanks for sharing!
A step Michelle probably didn't show in canning up the broth is making sure to wipe your jar rims so that you get a good seal on your jars. Superb brand lids are fantastic and the loud POP versus other canning lids is impressive when taking the lid off to use your canned product. I wipe my jar rims with a paper towel soaked in vinegar to clear off any fatty oils, no matter how good your canning lids are they won't seal if there is oil or debris of any kind on your jar rims. Anna In Ohio
She probably does and just doesn't film it.
How do you not get freeze burns on your food?
You cant ever have too much butter!!
How long do you let your carrots cure before you put in the fridge? Thanks 😊
we don't cure our carrots. We put those directly into bags in the fridge.
keep safe beautiful family ❤

Tons of respect, guys! Love your industry, creativity and commitment to Mother Earth. "Waste not, want not," was one of those wonderful axioms passed down to us by our parents and grandparents-it's only ever proved to be true. You all epitomize it in such a humble, wonderful way. Wishing you abundance and blessings, health, prosperity and joy. Thanks for all your hard work putting these videos together. ❤🥰
Thank you so much!
