If Cobain were alive you would be saying the same thing about him. Nobody would care, they'd all be saying " hey, remember when Nirvana were cool. Their first few albums were good, then they went to shit." Just like all the other bands of that era. It pays to die in your prime at the height of your success. You are remembered that way forever.
The strangest thing about kurt is the mystery of how he rose to the challenge when playing live or in studio. When you analyze the demos it sounds like any ordinary kid badly trying to cover Nirvana songs and failing. Yet somehow that same insecure kid ,when the pressure was on, his persona ignited and morphed into this ultra confident aggressive rock superstar 😮
Everything is seen as you want it to been seen. This is why so many people underestimate you and you have the advantage if you play a part. All the blonde bombshells did this and that is when they gave em all the right hook that was unexpected. I play dumb all the time and people think I am just lucky. It has nothing to do with luck, it has everything to do with persistence even when it is just boring. You have to grind for success. Play dumb, be smart.

@paulwerline6249 I mean, I honestly don't know too many famous musicians that went to snooty art schools like youre talking about. The only one I can think of is Rob Zombie and the bass player from White Zombie (can't remember her name) robs ex gf. Other than that most famous musicians were either high school dropouts or barely graduated high school and failed college. Brad nowell of sublime failed out of college.
Berklee*
@@rebd00mer93 Hmmm... Let's see i was at Berklee when Aimee Mann and Steve Vai were there.
And read his journals. Most insight into his world to be had.
Awesome analysis of Kurt, going to check this out
lol i liked the Billy jumpscare at the end
😂
With a hint of lars
Respect Billy...Kurt cobain was nirvana true legend
It takes a village to raise a child, an artist, a business. Protection is a missing link ..... mentally physically spiritually financially and creatively...... Remember to carry the ONE
Yeah, he was an assassin - he killed rock and roll.
I was shocked a few years back when I found out how really good of a guitar player this guy is. The Smashing Pumpkins really never did anything for me, so I never paid attention. But I read somewhere that this guy is a really good guitar player. So I checked it out ... wow is he ever. Much to my surprise.
Billy totally rips.. I never thought much about princes guitar playing boy was I wrong
Smart guy syndrome, and 27 club, have always been a nirvana fan, and a massive Pumpkins fan❤
I've got more respect for Billy Corgan than for maybe any other artist to survive and thrive through the 90s, which chewed up a lot of great talented people. He's in that realm with Warren Zevon, Fred Eaglesmith, and Leonard Cohen. Authentic to himself and stoic in a way.
Agreed! People would often talk about what a jerk he was but I tried explaining stoicism to them. I admire the stoics. I wish I was.
@Cjiscj777 same here. More of a Diogenese than a Plato, myself. Unfortunately, perhaps.
Don't forget about Eddie, he made it too
@@treble8921 pearl jam? Yeah, he made it.
Having the guts to be yourself is all you need 🙏🏼🙌🏼💪🏼👊🏼♾️❤️☮️
Billy Corgan is a great visionary and word assassin himself. Legend.
Billy Corgan was the only guy who was at Cobain's level when it came to writing hits. Simple tunes but hits. I feel blessed that Corgan is still here doing what he does best.
This is a literal quote from the Travis Meeks episode of Intervention when he talking about his dad and his childhood and learning to write songs....😂😂😂
kurt 100% put in his 10,000 hours. he just played it down because selling out meant you were OVER in the 90s. so although he made it seem like he wrote classics with hardly any effort, like Billy said, he put in the time and effort, his journals have notes of specific chord shapes and names. he just made it seem like he didnt because of IMAGE. marilyn manson’s image is similar, most people who have met him say hes a down to earth dude, ive heard.
Billy is a wizard. He is Billy the White! He was Billy the horizontal stripes, then Billy the Black but now…I think he is Billy the White Wizard. I saw The Smashing Pumpkins twice on the infinite sadness tour. I was front center at the Spectrum in Philly. Best show of my life. Thanks Billy and friends.
Saw the pumpkins with Garbage in the 90s for the Infinite Sadness tour.
They didn’t disappoint.
I’m 110% with BC here.
Very true Kurt demanded Nirvana practiced 6 days a week in the early years
Most of the songs i like best, were all remakes from a 60's band that wrote them all. Meaning, Kurt had good taste in music ❤Note-Look up the original songwriters, that band.. They're a trip😊
I see kurt and corgan both as musical fuckin wizards in their own way and i wonder what kurt mustve thought of smashing pumpkins , particularly siamese dream. Both of these peoples music changed my life tbh i love em both. I just happen to like kurt way more as a person but i suppose thats irrelevant when discussing art.
Kurt loved pop music we loved melodies
Thank you Billy!
Lol THANK YOU BILLY.YOU ARE FVCKING GREAT TOO.
I love it when people talk good about other people idk why
Billy billy billy ... if only you could still make music people actually like. You are not the icon you thought you should be...
@ if Cobain was was still alive we'd have world peace and Smashing Pumpkins would be still making good music.
Forgive me, but it’s almost kind of bizarre seeing Billy praise someone.
He was real unlike most
The strangest thing about kurt is the mystery of how he rose to the challenge when playing live or in studio. When you analyze the demos it sounds like any ordinary kid badly trying to cover Nirvana songs and failing. Yet somehow that same insecure kid ,when the pressure was on, his persona ignited and morphed into this ultra confident aggressive rock superstar 😮
I thought the same when I saw the music video of " in bloom"
Singing and playing Teen Spirit is easy to fake but brutally difficult to do with all of the correct syncopation.
So well put
The sound on the solo you were talking about is the phase 90 turned almost all the way down.
I can't help but see the resemblances between him, and Bill Mahar now lol
Bill Burr you mean.
Never mind. Might have been a more commercial success but in Utero could have been called Never mind. 2.0, it was fantastic
i am disappointed that this was a grounded, empathetic portrait of a dedicated artist and not a conspiracy theory about a rock n roll superspy
I often thought Kurt was a lot more calculated than the image that was portrayed, whether that image was his creation, or that of producers and execs.
