Hey guys, still mind blown that I finally caught one! I wanted to make the video as fast as possible for a 3-shiny video so here's some information that I left out:
I found Pokerus (~1/21,845) FIVE times during these Larvitar hunts, yet shinies (1/8192) only three times, pretty interesting right? ;)
I couldn't have done it without all of the support on Twitch, Twitter, Reddit, and of course, here on RUclips as well. Thank you all so much for supporting me through kind words on this hunt, and for picking on me which made me want to end it sooner! Some of my favorites are "Larvitar after over 100,000", "is your Larvitar running? Well you better go catch it!", and "I h8 u". Good stuff!
I'd really appreciate if you all could watch until the end, I tried to make it as entertaining as possible the whole way through so you have a long time to hunt without needing to change the video. It'll help my video through RUclips's algorithm if you don't skip around, however I understand if you do :)
Please share this video! On top of the TEN MONTHS it took to finally catch this shiny, it also took quite a few hours to get the editing right. After such a long journey, it would mean a lot if this video did well enough to get into my top 10 most viewed!

Lately I’ve gotten a lot of messages saying throwing bait or mud would’ve made it more likely to catch. This is statistically incorrect. The best chance to catch is if you just throw Safari balls from the start. This is because it can flee on that turn you throw mud/bait, and the increased catch chance or decreased flee rate do not make up for it.
How can you get the rocks for you can place them down?Also Does it only have to be the be the rocks to have a 100% larvitar encounter rate?I would really appreciate if you read this.

Nooooope, I'll hatch for Larvitar any day. They may take longer to hatch, but at least they don't run away. I couldn't handle watching a shiny run, especially after that many SRs

How is it faster to RE 60k times than gen7 shiny charm masuda 500 times lol.
I think you missed the part where this was for my badge quest. Everything I hunt is full odds, so yeah Full Odds eggs in gen 7 would be faster still. But I hunted this specifically so I could have it on my Heart Gold SBQ. For what I specifically wanted, this was the fastest way. Assuming I average the same for breeding in gen 7 as I did here, 10k eggs there would actually still be about the same time as 60k encounters here, so not actually saving time anymore. And gen 6/7 ruined a lot of shinies.
It was already a pain in the ass to catch a regular one for a good nature lol
so easy for us viewers to just skip it but i know the pain of all the hours you put into that nice catch. proud of the results my man
brandon faris Thanks! I feel like a lot of people don’t realize that so when people post things like “Shiny at 3:00” or something I just kind of blank stare my phone. Like I hunt for so many hours, you can wait a few minutes lol I even add hunt explanations and try to make that entertaining at the beginnings too.

Congrats on this shiny. I would have given up at that point. I never had that much dedication to shiny hunting. I always wanted this shiny, but I was never able to find it. Maybe I will find it one day.
Honestly as long as you don't have ridiculously long phases like I did, this will be the fastest way to get a shiny Larvitar, on average you'd have 3 fails. Do it across 2 or more games and E-Z. Thanks R Kelly!

this is why you play with an emulator. just keep refreshing the pokeball after every failed throw, 100% success rate :D

Dans74777 you can’t use the master ball in the Safari Zone, only Safari balls

I'm not all Pokémon nerdy, and could careless about all the things that may be right/wrong.
I enjoy playing Pokémon, but only with cheat codes now. To much time to do it legit, and time isn't something I have to spare.
Yet, I don't see the point in wasting all this time for one shiny, when your a cheat code away from catching everything shiny...
I know you may have caught these "legit", but there's a kid down the street that has all the Pokémon shiny level 100, with 100% I've and the best favourably nature's, and can trade for any Pokémon he wants... Took him like 3 hours a day for a week....
This seems like a massive life sucker for just a few lines of code in a game, hoping that code out of thousands of other lines pop up.
Then again, I guess it's your life and you do with it as you please and I'm sure theses kinds of videos gets you lots of veiws over various streaming platforms. So do you mate.

I like this, it's critical without being rude. A rarity for RUclips.
I know I can just get it faster by cheating, but that's not as fun. I'd rather spend hours talking with friends I've made from this (online and in person) while we all shiny hunt. Or I can stream and get to interact with people, being able to make their day while I'm just goofing off playing games. And it's obviously more exciting when you earn it than if you hack it in or use an easier method.
Yeah sometimes I hunt pokemon for their shiny variation, but normally when I shiny hunt something it's simply for the fact that it's rare. It's not even about wanting it in that color.
At the end of the day, yeah it's kind of pointless. But isn't any hobby? Sports or stamp collecting or whatever it is, it's all pointless but if you're having fun then you're not wasting time. It's not for everyone of course, but it's fun for me.
And this is my part time job while I'm in college. So I get to have fun, play games, not need to get a job that I hate, and make a little cash? Hell yeah, I'll take it!

Yeah, I know what an extremely long hunt feels like. I have a hunt on my Soulsilver version that I've been doing on and off for over 2 years now, and just getting nothing. This gives me hope to go for that shiny again, so I'm hoping to finish that soon as well.

Damn, that took a will of steel to keep that going. I hate Safari Zone enough with everything fleeing, and would've just searched in Mt. Silver or something. Congrats, it looks amazing and the Safari Ball compliments it well. Can't wait to see Tyranitar.

Honestly, the preserverence you demonstrate when Shiny Hunting is always inspiring^-^ I just got a Shiny Charmander today, I don't have the vid for it right now but it took me 2695 Eggs with Masuda Method in Gen 7. I also got a Shiny Wishiwashi with Masuda Method after 4790 Eggs and a lot of people ask me "Why don't you just SOS Chain it. It kinda seems to waste too much time, PokeGuitarist." But I wanted my Shiny Wishiwashi in a Heavy Ball with 0 Speed IVs and Quiet Nature ; u ; I was so happy when I got the Shiny.
Even as Masuda Method being my preferred way of Shiny Hunting since Generation 5 came out and before I made RUclips videos, I'm always Breeding so many more Eggs than other people. It's Shiny Hunters like you that I enjoy watching, because the Shiny Hunts you do are always different.
Shiny Larvitar in the Safari Zone with Repel Trick sounds like it would be a decent hunt, having a Catch Rate of 45 and a really high Flee Tag, but just the fact it's only Larvitar you are finding makes your Shiny Hunt not turn into different Phases, but the fact that the first Shiny Larvitar that Ran Away took 5,000+ Encounters and both the one that Ran the second time and the one that went in the Safari Ball were both at and around 30,000 Encounters was absolutely brutal. You seem to be one of those people that when you Fail a Shiny, or a Shiny Hunt is way too brutally long, you still push yourself to finish the Shiny Hunt. Even hitting a Shiny Encounter around or at 30,000 Encounters is way above Odds and that happens twice is absolutely insane. I remember chilling in a couple of LiveStreams and seeing you try to get Shiny Larvitar. Excellent and major congrats ShinyCollector98, and I bestow some of the best Shiny Luck for your next few Shiny Targets upon thee *Shiny Magic Chanting begins... Crossing Fingers and spreading Fingers across the computer screen, spreading the good luck!*

Yeah, it's not that I don't get discouraged during a long hunt or after a fail, but I feel like if I stop there the time spent on those would be wasted and I would have failed the shiny for nothing. Thanks for the luck!
