@@SerendipityChannel91 please make tutorial on doing this mod on the id80 V2, it would be really appreciated!
@@king_dmj5280 I is actually the same . cover the holes an pour the silicone in.
@@king_dmj5280 Not sure that would work on the v2 bc there is very little room between the acrylic and the pcb. Also the fact that the plate is thick and doesn't have any room for foam between the plate and pcb like v1 is probably why it sounds so hollow.
@@kurious_kuromi thx for the reply
This is one of those things that makes you go.
"Oh wow why didnt I think of that!"
Great idea. I need to try it.
Thanks! Yeah, that's exactly what I said to myself when I first thought of the idea.
This is so clean and buttery! I've noticed the nk65 entry uses this too. I wondered why others haven't hop onto this feature yet
Thank you very much!
Just found your videos. Your craftsmanship and quality is some of the best I’ve seen on RUclips in the keyboard community. Please don’t stop making content your time will come! More custom mod videos please 😄
INTR1NSIC RULES oh thank you so much! I really appreciate it! 😄
This is brilliant how has this not been picked up by more MK ppl
Thank you so much! And I’m not sure but they need to get on it 😂
I think the end result is very similar to the silicon you vet in NK65. Not only it works well fot its acoustic, it doesn't affect the look for tofu arcylic and blocks the underglow rgb.
This is as good as a homemade dampener can get.
Couldn't agree more! Works great on my Tofu65 Acrylic case
@@sanghlee4514hi it’s benne a long time
Wonderful! I'll no longer waste time with cutting foams, etc. There's no chance inexpensive foam coud dampen more than this.
This is really cool I'm gonna have to try it out and make a video!!
Hey, Hipyo, I watch your videos! I'll definitely check it out when you post it!
@@SerendipityChannel91 Thanks! I'll 1000% add a link to your channel and shout you out for the awesome idea! BTW, have you tried this in your ID80? Thinking about if it could fill in the weirdly sloped gap
@@SerendipityChannel91 Finished the video! It will be up tomorrow at noon, it is not elegant by any means but it worked pretty well!
i just ordered most from the link except the keycaps and switches. i love my pudding keycaps and blue switches
Great idea!! I did this with Epoxy a while ago but it didn't worked so well (epoxy is quite dense). I didn't knew about Silicone. I will try this ASAP!! Thanks
We definitely need a sound comparison!!
Oh, I didn't know that about epoxy, I never tried using it! I definitely will post a sound comparison :) Good luck with your project!
You literally did what I had in mind for my tofu. Thank you for doing this.
You’re welcome! 😄
Oh, it looks so easy. ...Too easy.
That’s a good thing, right? 😅
Good info. You got yourself a new sub!
Awesome, thank you! :)
You are a genius. This really should be perfect for acrylic builds
Was gonna buy a premade silicone mat from Amazon to cut out for my Bakeno 65 but now I found a better method thank you!
I’m glad I could help! Let me know how it goes!
Damn! You are a genius! Great work! I am going to try on mine keeb
Thank you so much! 😄 Good luck with your project!
Woahhhh youre the first person ive seen do this, good shit😳😳
Thank you! 😄
I wish you added a before and after type test!!
I have it right here! - ruclips.net/video/m7t6kQi4WJQ/видео.html
Use your method, I made my own. Thank you!
Yes! That's awesome, you're welcome! :D
The silicone could also help if the keyboard is too light. This is what I'll try for my KBD67 lite
Nice! Good luck with your project :D
Interesting method. May I have some input on my use case? I don't have a proper chassis to mold from at the moment. Still building my case, and it's going to be a combination of wood and acrylic. Would you recommend molding it from the completed wood + acrylic chassis, or should I just make a simple blank to make compatible layers for it instead?
I would recommend covering all the holes/seams with masking tape and then molding the dampener from the completed chassis.
Did you do any more pouring of the silicone off camera or is what you showed on camera what you did? Also how did it settle so perfectly??
I did add a little bit more off-camera and that ended up being about half of each bottle used 😄 And while keeping it level, I covered the whole case in plastic wrap to keep any dust from getting into it. Hope that helps!
@@SerendipityChannel91 that helped a lot, probably gonna do this myself, so just want to make sure I do it right, Thank you!
one tip if you dont have silicone you could also pick up a dollars store soft mousepad and cut it to the shape and put it in there
Good tip, I like that idea!
did you use some kind of coating as release agent? or did you straight up pour it onto the aluminium?
I just poured it into the aluminum, no coating needed :) You can use this method with any type of material casing except for silicone.
wish someone sold this cause i feel like i wouldnt be able to do it so neatly
You should definitely give making it a try! People here have tried it and succeeded :D
Can you do a typing test of this silicone vs the foam?? Btw amazing video, ordered my tofu case and am so excited to complete my daily driver board (:
Thank you, good luck with your project! 😄 I actually did post a sound comparison, you can find it here: ruclips.net/video/m7t6kQi4WJQ/видео.html
How much silicone mixture (in ml) did you use for this project? Also, did you ever try to make another piece of dampeter that can go between the PCB and the plate? I thought I might try that as well.
I used about 103ml altogether using the 207ml kit 😊 So that’s about half of each bottle. I also thought of making one that goes between the PCB and the plate, but I opted not to because then you’ll have to cut precisely for all of the switches, which I thought would be a messy job.
Again a very cool keyboard modding video!
Thank you so much!
Holy shit this is amazing. Just ordered the Silicone kit!
Great! Good luck with your project :)
Hey just wondering, how much of the liquid in both the bottles did you think you used in total?
I used 7oz total - 3.5oz from each bottle :)
GENIUS, thanks! How much of the bottle did you use for the Tofu 60?
Thank you! 😄 I used half of each bottle mixed together and that was the perfect amount.
I was going to buy foam but I want this now
Yes! Go for it! It’s super easy and looks a lot cleaner 😁
how much of the bottle did you use and with that 7oz bottle how many keyboards do you think you can do?
I used half of each bottle, so I would say about two 60% keyboards :)
Brilliant! Liked and subbed 😊👍
Thank you so much! :)
But what's the sound difference between using the silicone and foam?
Nevermind I found the video in you channel. Nice.
Hi, great video. How much of the solution did u actually use for your case? i have the same case and i was wondering how much to mix together.
Hi, thank you! :) I used half of each bottle, so about 3.5oz per bottle, and that was enough to fill the whole case without overfilling it.
OMG this looks clean! What camera are you using?
Thanks! I’m currently using a Sony RX100 VII 😊
Did you get the 7oz bottles or the big 21oz bottles? Just wanna know which one I should get so I can mod my acrylic case and make it sound *chefs kiss*
Becca Ruski I ended up getting the 7oz bottles and that was plenty to get the result I was looking for 😊 Good luck!
Can anyone tell me wher i can buy this premade?
I did this with my acrylic UT47.2! The silicone is barely visible through the case, so the light from the LEDs shines through as expected. I wonder if the dampening properties aren't as pronounced on a smaller form factor keyboard though. The silicone layer makes a very small difference in sound for me. I already have a layer of dampening foam between the PCB and the plate, so perhaps my keyboard already had some density where it matters. Either way, the keyboard feels more hefty with the silicone. It's more dense, and it adds to the feeling of quality!
Did it stain your acrylic case? I am planning to do it on a tofu60 acrylic I did cut out the foam that came with the case but it was not perfect :/ and the dz60 comes with under glow rgb so I think it will work great but I’m afraid of ruining my beloved acrylic case. Thanks.
@@armandoarroyo i can't say the silicone stained the acrylic in any way. but the silicone has stained slightly around the edges over time, probably due to more exposure to the elements compared to the interior parts which only touch the circuit board and the case itself.
Is it okay to do this method with a plastic case? I have the keychron k2 and the case is plastic
It's okay to use on any material except for silicone because it'll just end up bonding together.
@@SerendipityChannel91 thank you!
Extra step: add some very thin silicone film between the screw holes and the underside of the pcb, that way you dampen the sound reverberating through the mounting points. Extra points if you ad a similar film between the screw head and the pcb.
Thanks for the great tip! I'll definitely experiment :)
@@SerendipityChannel91 i hope you do, would be nice to see the results! :)
@@SerendipityChannel91 Yes! Some RUclipsrs have covered how to do it. They sandwich little 4mm x 1mm x 1.5mm silicone o-rings between the pcb and case standoffs. Works great!
Genius. Thank you baby!
This is amazing thank you
You are amazing! thank you!
Thank you so much, I really appreciate that!
Does HomeDepot bathroom silicon also work?
Do you have impressions of this over a long period of use? Does the silicone still hold together? Is there any sort of residue or substance left on the underside of the PCB since you had to compress it down a bit to get everything to fit properly in the case?
The dampener looks good as new, no problems or residue on the PCB. There’s a slight compression under the PCB on purpose but you can mold it under the screw standoffs if you prefer no contact between the two 😊
I’m glad there’s girls into keyboards they always come up with great solutions like this
How many ml did you use? Im abt to do it hahha
So, I didn't actually use any measuring cups or anything, I just used half of each bottle in the kit, and I had very little left.
Ik this is late but... Thanks for this video, it helped me figure out how much I needed to put into my case. Im currently building a Drop Carina and silicone defenetly makes it alot thockier than normal pcb foam (Depends on what switches you have) :)
That’s awesome, I’m so glad this helped!
going to try this with my carina :3
Great! 😄 Good luck with your project!
@@SerendipityChannel91 thanks, glad i found your vid!!
!!! for anyone that wants to try this on theirs too, i don’t know the effects that silicone will have on the frosted finish so don’t try it without taking that into consideration. i’m trying with saran wrap first, to protect the case..which may not work properly and will definitely create creases/uneven surfaces
@@julia2842 I'm really glad you took the precaution of protecting the case; you definitely can't be too careful :) I'm sure it wouldn't affect the case but it is good to take that factor into consideration. Let me know how it turns out!
how many silicone dampeners do you think you can make out of these 100G/3.5oz silicone mold you linked on your description? let's say for 65% keyboard cases.
Oh, I used the 7oz kit, I must've accidentally linked the wrong kit... I'll have to double-check that.
With the 7oz kit, I used about half of each bottle for the Tofu60, so I would say just one for a 65% keyboard.
This is great! Can I ask about how much of the mixture you used??
I bought the 7oz bottle kit and used half of each bottle, so 3.5oz per bottle 😊
I did this this morning and my silicone did set but it is still stick to the touch and the bottom appears to not have cured. Only the top surface has. Maybe I mixed the 2 parts inconsistently?
Hey, how did it go? I hope it ended up working out for you!
How much ml did you use? Give or take
I used abut 7oz altogether which is around 207ml :)
@@SerendipityChannel91 Thanks! I've purchased a kit thanks to you! 🥳🥳🥳
@@TheSmithNL awesome! Good luck with your project!
Why is there no sound test?
Because it’s in a separate video 😊 - ruclips.net/video/m7t6kQi4WJQ/видео.html
in 1:25 it looked like it wasn't fully filled did you move it around a little to cover all the space or did it naturally cover all the space with time?
I moved it around and I ended up needing a bit more so I added it off-camera and that ended up being about half of each bottle in the kit used 🙂
So no need for any kind of release agent to be able to remove the silicone? That’s such an aesthetically pleasing way to dampen my tofu65 acrylic. Definitely leaving a like!
That's right, no release agent needed! Thank you so much :)
@@SerendipityChannel91 just a recap, finished with the project last night, and it turned out perfect. I also bought a $10 pack of stick on wheel weights from harbor freight to place in a row in the deep cut out in the case, to add some heft, and it’s brilliant. Such a great video and solution for the tofu. Couldn’t be happier. Thanks again!
How do i make sure i have enough silicone and that it will reach a suitable height to meet up gently with my keyboards circuit board? I need more details yo! 🥺
Hi! Do you have the Tofu case or something similar? If so, then fill the silicone up to the screw stand-offs. That should be just under where the PCB will sit. Hope that helps! 😁
Trying to do this for my old corsair k70 board ill have to see if i can do something similar to your suggestion. Thanks.@@SerendipityChannel91
how thick is the silicone? does it get compressed by the pcb ?
I poured it up to the screw standoffs, which presses slightly against the PCB so that it absorbs any reverb.
How did you know it was fully cured after an hour??? I ordered some and it said 12 hours. Is there any indication it has completely dried on the button side?
Yeah it definitely varies depending on the mold size and thickness, and to see if it was fully cured, I tapped the mold to see if it was dry.
What is 1:1 ratio? Is it like put the same amount of both bottles and mix them?
Yup, just mix the same amount per bottle :)
@@SerendipityChannel91 thank you 😊🙌💕✨
THIS IS GREAT!
how did u even out the surface (what did u use)
Just something I found lying around the house that wouldn't scratch the keyboard and I eyeballed it when leveling it.
How much of the bottles did you use?
Hi, so sorry for the late reply! I used about half of each bottle :)
Have you considered this for your ID80? I know the bottom is too low to contain the mold on its own, but maybe if it's screwed onto the (emptied) case where you pour thru an opening on the top plate.
I did think about doing that, but there's barely any space under the PCB where the space bar is. I'll take a look at it again and maybe do a video testing it in the future. Thanks for the idea! :)
@@SerendipityChannel91 tried to link you an example pic since I just did that for a KBD67 Lite (which has a similar slanted bottom) but it gets filtered out. All thanks to your instructions! It's at imgur / a/jsD9gku
Genius!
Thank you! :D
I personally like to pour concrete on mine but eh each to their own
😂 Oh boy lol Well everyone has their preferences!

I used half of each bottle in the kit 😊

wow this is so smarrttttt
Thank you so much!
So it only took 1 hour for it to completely cure?
It was around that, but to be safe, you’d wanna leave it a little bit longer.
@@SerendipityChannel91 I just did the mod test with the same mold as you and it came out terrible. It was bulging in the middle, the tape ripped it instead of coming out. Also it ended up angles even when I put something under it. I want to re try it but not sure what I did wrong.
@@NigelBolton_ oh no, I'm sorry to hear that :( If you have a leveler, that might help with the angles and bulging in the middle. Try that first and let me know how that goes, and I'll try to help you if you run into anymore problems. Let me know if that helps with the tape as well. Good luck! :)

Seriously considering doing this for my frosted acrylic Tofu60. I'm getting some annoying vibration in my keyboard when I type despite everything being put together and screwed in fine (I have a PC plate) and wondered if getting a brass plate would help (which I might still do) but after seeing this I think having translucent silicone rubber in my case would help, and it won't ruin the underglow like foam might potentially do!
Has anyone done this project with an acrylic case? Just wondering :)
I did with Tofu65 Acrylic frosted case and it works wonders! It got rid of vibration and still able to let out led lights. You should definitely try.
@@sanghlee4514 did you o ring mount your tofu with this silicone mold inside? I was wondering if it it would fit and work to o ring mount with it.
@@PIayback1 No, I did not used O rings. I just poured the silicone even with the screw stand-offs in the case so when I mount the PCB, dampener makes light contact with the hotswap sockets to absorb any vibration from PCB. Hope that helps
Great work. Thank you for sharing. Did you purchase the 7oz silicone bottles or the bigger one?
I purchased the 7oz set 😊
@@SerendipityChannel91 Great. Thanks.

I used this idea for a couple keyboards. Turned out beautifully. Great idea and thank you for sharing! I recommend this video a ton.
Oh, wow, thank you so much! I'm glad it worked out for you!
hi! did you use up all the silicone for one 60% case? (because i'm choosing to purchase a 100g kit or 200g kit) ^-^
I only ended up needing to use about half of each bottle of the kit that I linked :) So you'll definitely get at least two out of one kit.
Thank you for the idea! I have the lo-profile version of this case and my 'G' and 'H' were very loud with neoprene foam - I removed the middle standoff and made this silicone dampener, and now I have a much more consistent sound profile!
That’s awesome, I’m glad it worked out for you! 😁
why the keyboard manufacturers can't fill the empty, all mech keyboards have such a hollow, i don't understand
I agree! I do notice a lot of the entry level keyboards come with dampeners now, though.
Glad to see I'm not the only person that does this lol, did this on my clear case about a month ago works great!
I’m doing this for my acrylic tofu65 this weekend. Just to clarify, you didn’t need to use any release agent to be able to remove the silicone when dried did you?
@@christophersmith8028 How did this work out for you? I want to do this to my acrylic tofu60, but I've heard that silicone doesn't mix well with acrylic plastics.
@@lancelucas4296 mine turned out fantastic, and plan to do this for any board that has the room for it. With the cut out in the bottom being so deep it allows for room to add a row of wheel weights from harbor freight, or even a row of dimes stacked 2 high to add some weight if that’s something you’d want. As long as you mix properly then yours should come out just fine like mine did. Hope that helps. Would recommend this to anyone.
“woah this looks so good and clean! It also sounds great! Im gonna do this right away”
