Man I gave up looking for a skiff build that wasn’t overkill, but wasn’t built to only last a couple years. Now I have an idea in my head about what I wanna do and I thank you for that! Well done!
My first time Kayaking and this Kayak held strong. ruclips.net/user/postUgkx4k5UrhC3v_Y4hIEaXLGvHcN5a5aBmZNB The water got pretty rough as a speed boat zipped by me, and the Kayak withstood it (I expected to be capsized). The Ores are very easy to put together, the pump worked beautifully. the seats are a bit hard to sit in after a while (I recommend sitting on the floor). after reading the reviews I was very scared it'd get a hole in it, the material is very strong and durable. The Air valve may need a small Phillips head screwdriver to adjust, other than that, it's well worth the money!(update)I've gone Kayaking in 3 Lakes and 2 rivers totaling about 40 miles. the kayak had two holes and they patched easily and no other problems can't wait for kayaking season this year!
Thank you! I can't wait to get it on the water! I am waiting for a game warden inspections right now, which is the first step to getting it registered.
Can't find anything like this in South Africa and would love to give it a go! Exchange rate to US$ kills us though, and all those materials are also imported, so would be cheaper just buying a shitty "bakkie" (roughly translates to little bowl) as we call them. We have an amazing estuary where we live, and I reckon this would also be perfect for my son to start taking out in a while...
If you could get your hands on some marine grade plywood, that would be the most costly part. I have a buddy that built one much more budget friendly using off the shelf products from Home Depot and he loves it!
That's awesome bro!! The boat looks really good. Inspection is gonna be really simple! I may have to build a small skiff one of these days. Tight lines!
@@SchwindOutdoors I need to find a decent and safe hotel to stay at down in corpus or aransas. Been doing one day trips and its a long drive from Austin. Maybe one day we can meet up. Its cool to see other builder's home made boats...
Gig'em, buddy! I love the skiff! I recently got a paddleboard paddle for it and used it to push my dad around while he fly fished off the bow. It allows you to have the speed necessary to get around easily while still being able to get into some skinny water like a kayak. The skinniest I've been so far was about 4".
Thank you, I appreciate that! I bought the materials. I think it would have been close to the same price to purchase the kit. I'll be doing a video soon on exactly how much it cost me to build this boat.
@@emiltilitzki7085 I used two gallons of tje foam. It was two kits anyways... the plans call for one, but I wanted to fill all of the sections of the frame.
Looks amazing, how do you think the transom will hold if you put a 6hp? I would be a little sketched about it but than again I don’t know the thickness
If the thing is built correctly, it should be able to handle up to a 15hp outboard. I have an 8hp tohatsu for mine. The transom is 3/4" thick and is reinforced heavily with fiberglass.
Beautiful job man!! Almost done with my 16ft homemade cat skiff. I'm using 1708 instead of 6oz cloth. Honeslty, do you feel that your build should've called for heavier fiberglass? I'm only bringing this up because I'm actually considering doing 2 layers of 1708 not just 1. How does it feel strength wise not that it's all conpletedd??
Thanks man, I really appreciate that! You know, I still haven't had a chance to get it on the water since I've completed it, so I don't think I can give you the best answer. I will say that it feels tough. Everything has stiffened up really well. I used 6 in. fiberglass tape on all of the seems before I covered it completely with the cloth.
Why are you calling it micro? At 14' that's larger than many skiffs. I like the designs from the site you used, been going there for years, but I like the previous version of their web site much better for picking plans. Anyway, congrats and enjoy your boat.
Unfortunately butt joins in plywood aren’t strong enough. Just use a straight edge and a small router to lap join. Personally I’d do 2inch laps. Hope that helps.
You did a great job on her build!! He''s ready to gooo fishing!

Gud day sir, can I ask width at theback? Is it same as in the middle width

Wow! You do exceptional work. That is gorgeous.

Beautiful boat. Great vid. Thanks for sharing.
Beautiful skiff great video also. Tight lines

you got the skill man ..
This makes me wish my son was little again 😥
Awesome build. 👌
On second thought he's 17 and can help me build a boat so that's a happy thought 😀😊

Great job. You should be proud.

I can't wait to see it on the water and how it rides. Awesome video 🚤🎣

A true craftsman. Fisherman. And I believe a great family man. Alas my sea-bird kayak is still struggling with the fact that not all loves her.
I really appreciate that!
Wow an amazing boat, I wish I had one.

BEAUTIFUL SKIFF- NICE JOB" WAY2GO!

I got the inspection done a couple weeks ago and it went smoothly. Now I just need a free weekend to launch it!
@@SchwindOutdoors Congrats! Where abouts do you fish mostly? My next trip is gonna be port OConner. Just dont know when..

Nice build and Gig’em!
How do you like the skiff? What is the draft with the motor? TIA

Very nice build!
The boat looks really nice, and is the stability good?
Thank you! The stability was better than I expected! I can easily stand up on it and feel comfortable.
That’s awesome. I’m interested how much $$$ was spent 🤔
I might have a go at that myself
Here is a video where I break down the cost of everything! ruclips.net/video/4IxoSVuIOh0/видео.html
Was this a kit? Amazing build I would love this for fishing the Tampa Bay Flats.
Thank you! This one can be purchased as a kit. Mine was not though. I just purchased the plans. You can find it on BoatBuilderCentral.com
Amazing, congratulations !!!!!
Do you know how many how many polystyrene did you use in this project ?
you are amazing, may i know how many mm of plywood did you use?
Looks like 9mm or 3/8 inch to me.
Measures or plans of the skiff?? To do it at full size!
Can you tell me what is the length, width and height of the boat you are making
Did you buy the complete kit or purchase materials? The complete kit price doesn't seem that bad. Beautiful job by the way!!
Thank you, I appreciate that! I bought the materials. I think it would have been close to the same price to purchase the kit. I'll be doing a video soon on exactly how much it cost me to build this boat.
@@SchwindOutdoors Good deal, I look forward to that video. How many gallons of foam, and where did you get the grab rail and mats?
I saw the video on the mats, that’s neat!!

build specs are for up to a 9.8, guys have run 15-20hp outboards on them though.

How much does the boat weigh?

That's definently in the micro category. If this isn't, then I dont know what is!
Olá, tudo bem ?
Eu gostaria de adquirir o projeto. Vc vende ?
Very cool! Do u have a cost estimate for the materials?
Thanks man! I still haven't sat down and figured the overall cost. Off the top of my head I would say that most of the material cost about $1500.
@@SchwindOutdoors that's a hell of a deal!
I want to use it in the sea, do you think it is suitable?
On a calm day it would be. You'd want to keep a close eye on the weather!
Bravoooo
just want to say.. Woww!!! boomm nice maker..
Gig ‘ Em!
Do you have construction plans?
You can get them from boatbuildercentral.com
Noob question, looks like scarfing, can i do butt joints instead? You got some serious skills.
Unfortunately butt joins in plywood aren’t strong enough. Just use a straight edge and a small router to lap join. Personally I’d do 2inch laps. Hope that helps.
what thickness plywood ?
1/4 in marine grade plywood.
Like how many layers of glass was it on the deck and hull?
One sheet over the deck and hull with seams being taped with 4 in glass.
No way to send the plan?
No, but you can buy the plans from BoatBuilderCentral.com
Then you used it twice and sold it for $250.
@Jpgundarun Nope. I've used it several times and still have it looking great in the garage.
