  • History:
This fort is believed to be built by Shilahar kings and subsequently used by the Nizam of Ahmednagar. The great Maratha king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is also believed to have reconstructed this fort. During the Rajaram's regime this fort was captured by Shankarji Narayan Sachiv from the Siddhi of Janjira. In 1733 again this fort was captured by Senior Bajirao First. During Peshwa period this fort was used to keep prisoners. There is a block of stone with inscriptions in Farsi (Persian) and Devnagari. The inscription records that the fort was built in the beginning of the second year of the command of Siddi saheb. The architect was Suryaji and the Governor of the fort was Tukoji Haibat
    About the trek:
Fort Surgad is a small fort located in Raigad district of Maharashtra State. It is 120 km from Pune and 108 km from Mumbai. Surgad trek is an easy to moderate grade trek and almost everyone can do it.
Food and drinking water is not available on the fort so make sure you carry food and enough drinking water while trekking this fort. We did this trek on 27th December 2020. The adventure camp on this fort which is shown in this video, was organized by Z-bac adventure institute from Kolad. The link to their webpage is www.zbacadvent...

Good information about Gherasurgad. Info. about surrounding forts like, Sarasgad, Sudhagad, Avchitgad should have given.

Correct observation. We also knew after the shoot that we missed shots of other forts visible from Surgad. Will sure consider this in next videos. Thank you for your valuable feedback.

Khup chan.... try to mark and show walking route of the fort on photo of the fort or the Google earth video

Thank you for your appreciation. Actually the walk route from the base village to the fort top is well marked and very easy to find, but yes, for some forts it is tricky and difficult to find. There it would certainly help the trekkers to find the route. Will definitely try next time!

Thank you for your Frank opinion. Even I wanted to do videos with Marathi voiceover. But there are a number of such trek videos in Marathi. So to make it useful to a large audience I decided to make my videos in English. Still I agree with you that a trek video about Maharashtrian fort would certainly have been more appealing.
