Guys, what a great discussion! I must congratulate all of you. I feel that in this episode you were most insightful, what with your analogies and the philosophical tackling of the subject, as well as the sociological extensions which were explored.
I myself tried to read the book once (It was recommended to me by my mother) in Greek, and I quickly left it.
This podcast made me want to give it another go in its original language this time.
    Thank you. :)

Interesting that you've done two coming of age books with Rye in the title, the other being Ham on Rye. I can't think of this book without triggering this song in my head: ruclips.net/video/tNqsjvZchjg/видео.html

The thing about “ Catcher in the rye “ is that it inspired greater books than itself . My Own unpublished Novel “ Happy Bastards’ Day : The Asphyxiation and Deliverance of Dick David Delacruz “ is just a better version of the aforementioned novel . All the sex and violence that the Catcher was lacking , is in My novel ; as well as in many other less powerful works … I will also say that Tropic of Cancer was definitely an influence to the Catcher in the eye ; the catcher was a watered down , juvenile version of Tropic of Cancer … but a necessary novel none the less
