We all have our questions and although I pray God will lead him back to place so close to him, closer than ever, he has led many closer to God, including myself. I cannot speak for Josh, but Marty Sampson definitely did not do this for publicity, I disagree with Franklin Graham, I believe this is a cry for help and he is definitely looking for answers. In fact, Marty has stated he is not 'renouncing Christianity' only that it is on 'shaky grounds.' I think coming out clean like this is good. At least he can get to hear the true Gospel and actually get saved. The trouble with Hillsong they attract people for church for the wrong reasons and music does not save but hearing the unadulterated Gospel of Christ, which puts emphasis on eternal life than the present life. I don’t know if they’re doing it for publicity or not. I can’t see into their hearts or minds. But then again, neither can Franklin Graham. How dare he presume to know their motives for moving away from faith? This is the sort of crap that drives people away even further. One of the big problems is that when people like Marty and Josh hit a faith crisis, they are often failed by Christians around them who are unable to meaningfully engage with their questions and doubts. Often the best many Christians can do is preaching, quoting scripture and offering all the useless and unhelpful (even if well-meaning) clichés and non-answers- “You just don’t want to believe”, ”You have sin in your life”, “Read the Bible more”, “You’re struggling because you had a bad relationship with your worldly father” and the list goes on. I should know. I lost my faith a long time ago and on the way down I got all of this crap and more. Many (not all) Christians lack the skills to meet people where they’re at and engage in their questions and doubts. They often make assumptions (Like Franklin Graham has in this video) instead of listening and seeking to understand. They offer non-answers rather than walking with someone on the journey through the questions.

I personally think witchcraft was at work. My ex-megachurch did not believe that a Christian could be under witchcraft. That, is now only a theory to me, and not experience. I spent 7 years in a wilderness. The Bible no longer spoke to me, worship was dry, and struggled to stay afloat with my emotions. The boxing gym was my only outlet. I kept crying to God, until I stumbled on a niche part of Christianity that says a Christian CAN be under witchcraft attack. I prayerfully studied it and it made no sense, but I still applied the PRAYERS by faith, breaking spiritual strongholds, witchcraft, and confusion. Peace and stability came. Marty exhibits classic signs of witchcraft. I pray for them to be broken in Jesus Name. “Who has BEWITCHED you, O foolish Galatians?” The Greek Word there is “to put a spell”, Baskaino, NT:940. Galatians 3:1 infers that any kind of persuasion that is not from God, that causes confusion, is being “bewitched” (Baskaino). Command the witchcraft to be broken off from Marty in Jesus Name! First, I feel that Marty (being in a leadership position) should of had a spirit leader or someone with spiritual wisdom who could of encouraged him to get closer to God in a personal and spiritual level. Marty is not the kind of person who would seek publicity. The real issue is the lack of understanding/teaching in the church on science and philosophy.
I agree... That's the result of a lukewarm preaching and leadership from his pastors and leaders. Worship leaders need to have a pastor who is a man of prayer, fast and someone who studies the Bible genuinely. If it's not easy any average Christian, it's not going to be easy either for any leader of his kind.

No matter how we rebel against God, remember this Exodus 3:14. " I AM WHO I AM" God is the same forever. We humans are emotional. Our emotion, faith, belief and physical will keep changing. Lets draw our faith from never changing God Almighty, who was, and is, and is to come. Its normal to have unbelief time to time. God understand. We are still in our imperfect body so God understand. Just talk to HIM and be honest about it then cry for help. You can rebel anything you want but God is still there on the throne. You can run away and you will get tired. Marty's songs and voice for some reason comforts me and blessed me on my emotional struggle. It help me overcome my emotional confusion and frustrations for being young I guess or finding who I am in front of God. I have been a fan of his music since I was a new believer. Over the years I have found out feeding your feelings by Christian music is shallow, not enough and will give you doubts. I study doctrine and apologetics and this strengthen my faith even more. To you young people out there study apologetics and doctrine. Start with Frank Turek lectures and you will see science doesnt stand a chance explaining who we are. Feed your mind with faith building accurate apologetics and doctrine from the Bible. And how science contradict itself and no one will ever convince you that God is dead and he doesn't exist. It's all part of the Great apostasy. Praise God his word is true. We just need to remember Jesus words about the parable of the sower and the seed. Some came up some withered and died and some flourished. It's the same for the Christian believer. Some Springs up very quickly and eyes out quickly. Some doesn't produce any fruit at all. And some remains faithful and grow strong and gets deeply rooted in the word. it is sad to say, but I know many people who were brought up in the faith that have fallen away from it. I know some that became Believers as young adults who have fallen away from the faith. I know still others that have remained strong and true to God's word no matter the difficulties that they have faced in the trials and persecution they have faced. Make no mistake, these people certainly could have had faith and have rejected it now. Scripture is abundantly clear there are believers and there are those who fall away from the faith.

So Quran cannot be right and Quran doesn't show any signs of "Divine" whereas Bible contains prophecies (only God can) and then life of Jesus and miracles. 2) Judaism says Jesus was crucified but never resurrected.. and yes cannot explain disciples', James', Paul's conversions, spread of Christianity in the mid first century, the empty tomb, 500 eye witnesses and many more. There's always another reason behind his giving up his faith.... It's just his alibi about Christians being judgmental or any other reason. Someday, when he gives up the "real reason" of his leaving, God's ready to bring him back to life, all arms ready to welcome his coming back.. Christians are NOT morally enlightened. According to the Bible, God will throw the majority of humanity into a eternal blazing furnace of tormenting fire. Being a christian is really hard. But worth it. Just pray for our brothers.
And even harder is having all your friends and family turn against you and judge you for admitting not being christian anymore, and all it really is about is just wanting to be free to express how you truly feel after it's been eating you up inside for years... saying this is about publicity is just a petty way of throwing this all under the rug.

I left 10 years ago, came back for a bit, got treated like trash and left again for good in 2015. Sometimes it's not necessarily "backsliding" as I don't consider myself to have backslid. I think coming out clean like this is good. At least he can get to hear the true Gospel and actually get saved. The trouble with Hillsong they attract people for church for the wrong reasons and music does not save but hearing the unadulterated Gospel of Christ, which puts emphasis on eternal life than the present life. One of the big problems is that when people like Marty and Josh hit a faith crisis, they are often failed by Christians around them who are unable to meaningfully engage with their questions and doubts. Often the best many Christians can do is preaching, quoting scripture and offering all the useless and unhelpful (even if well-meaning) clichés and non-answers- “You just don’t want to believe”, ”You have sin in your life”, “Read the Bible more”, “You’re struggling because you had a bad relationship with your worldly father” and the list goes on. I should know. I lost my faith a long time ago and on the way down I got all of this crap and more.
Many (not all) Christians lack the skills to meet people where they’re at and engage in their questions and doubts. They often make assumptions (Like Franklin Graham has in this video) instead of listening and seeking to understand. They offer non-answers rather than walking with someone on the journey through the questions.

I spent 7 years in a wilderness. The Bible no longer spoke to me, worship was dry, and struggled to stay afloat with my emotions. The boxing gym was my only outlet.
I kept crying to God, until I stumbled on a niche part of Christianity that says a Christian CAN be under witchcraft attack. I prayerfully studied it and it made no sense, but I still applied the PRAYERS by faith, breaking spiritual strongholds, witchcraft, and confusion.
Peace and stability came. Marty exhibits classic signs of witchcraft. I pray for them to be broken in Jesus Name.

First, I feel that Marty (being in a leadership position) should of had a spirit leader or someone with spiritual wisdom who could of encouraged him to get closer to God in a personal and spiritual level.

Marty is not the kind of person who would seek publicity. The real issue is the lack of understanding/teaching in the church on science and philosophy.
I agree... That's the result of a lukewarm preaching and leadership from his pastors and leaders. Worship leaders need to have a pastor who is a man of prayer, fast and someone who studies the Bible genuinely. If it's not easy any average Christian, it's not going to be easy either for any leader of his kind.

As for Marty Sampson, his music help me understand emotional takes on Christian living back then when I was in my 20s. Marty's songs and voice for some reason comforts me and blessed me on my emotional struggle. It help me overcome my emotional confusion and frustrations for being young I guess or finding who I am in front of God. I have been a fan of his music since I was a new believer. Over the years I have found out feeding your feelings by Christian music is shallow, not enough and will give you doubts. I study doctrine and apologetics and this strengthen my faith even more. To you young people out there study apologetics and doctrine. Start with Frank Turek lectures and you will see science doesnt stand a chance explaining who we are. Feed your mind with faith building accurate apologetics and doctrine from the Bible. And how science contradict itself and no one will ever convince you that God is dead and he doesn't exist. If you believe he exists then who HE is to you!

It's all part of the Great apostasy. Praise God his word is true. We just need to remember Jesus words about the parable of the sower and the seed. Some came up some withered and died and some flourished. It's the same for the Christian believer. Some Springs up very quickly and eyes out quickly. Some doesn't produce any fruit at all. And some remains faithful and grow strong and gets deeply rooted in the word. it is sad to say, but I know many people who were brought up in the faith that have fallen away from it. I know some that became Believers as young adults who have fallen away from the faith. I know still others that have remained strong and true to God's word no matter the difficulties that they have faced in the trials and persecution they have faced. Make no mistake, these people certainly could have had faith and have rejected it now. Scripture is abundantly clear there are believers and there are those who fall away from the faith.

For me the best examples of truth are the ressurection and fulfilled prophecies. let me give you a taste of apologetics - 1) Quran says Jesus wasn't crucified but cannot explain 17 non christian historical sources that mention Jesus death (written 20-150 yrs after Jesus death). So Quran cannot be right and Quran doesn't show any signs of "Divine" whereas Bible contains prophecies (only God can) and then life of Jesus and miracles. 2) Judaism says Jesus was crucified but never resurrected.. and yes cannot explain disciples', James', Paul's conversions, spread of Christianity in the mid first century, the empty tomb, 500 eye witnesses and many more. Hence Judaism rejected 3) Atheism worldviews are upside down.. what about Bible contradictions, look wvbs. what about theology, look David Pawson. what about science piercing christianity, look discovery science
