No you can't create a calculated column in a direct query . As table view is not there . And if you will try to create it will show a pop up this is not supported by a direct query .you need to do at a source level

I have tried to create cal column in DQ mode and it works...Ya complex calculation not allowed but simple CC is created....now I am confused please explain

It is possible but you will have to do a few more things and work hard to get it. Excel SQL Power BI and Python..you have to have command. And at the same time you have to create Project portfolio and have online presence on LinkedIn also.

The above solution works when there is two columns one col contains John and other column contains phy,math,sci etc.
