  • We completed a major project which involved filming the historic I-10 Calcasieu River Bridge as it currently stands. During this project, we capture audio via multiple angles near the bridge. We combined all of this footage into one, uncut, 10 minute long version which shows the sounds and cinematic 6K video of this nearly 70 year old bridge. We hope you enjoy!

The bridge was built extremely steep to make clearance for oil tankers over a short distance. I-210 bridge is less steep but much longer, the deck is also higher than the I-10 bridge.

The serious deterioration of this landmark bridge in Lake Charles is totally inexcusable and the Louisiana DOTD should be raked over the hot coals for neglecting this important bridge and allowing it to rust. I remember crossing this bridge several times in the early to mid 90s and it was in tip top mint condition. But Louisiana being Louisiana meaning highly corrupt and grossly negligent and incompetent with its infrastructure, this awesome landmark bridge has approached the point of no return and will have to be demolished and replaced by a brand new span over the Calcasieu River. A lot of infrastructure money could have been saved if this bridge was given the proper needed preventive maintenance and repairs over the past two decades but evidently that makes too damned much sense for the LADOTD and corrupt state and federal politicians.

I agree completely. Louisiana never took any pride in what they have and evidently the citizens just don’t care.

If heads don't roll on government Authority when this bridge inevitably collapses and kills people, well, we gotta think, who does the government answer to?

yes politicians are too busy stealing the money to worry about keeping the bridge safe.

That bridge feels like a roller coaster and it is truly terrifying to drive on. I would not have the fortitude (or stupidity?) to drive on it in heavy winds and rain - or heavy fog - or anything like that. I have actually had recurring nightmares of/from driving on this bridge - because it feels like a nightmare when you are driving on it!

All these older bridges are over engineered and very well built. This span would last forever if it’s owner, the Louisiana DOTD wasn’t so grossly negligent and incompetent. Now additional billions will have to be spent on its demolition and total replacement.

@r.pres.4121 The only thing that's really wrong with this bridge is the era in which it was built, for it is now totally incompatible with the needs of modern interstate travel. It has only 4 lanes of traffic with no shoulders, along with curbed guardrailing. None of those things would ever be allowed on a structure that was built today. It's of a late 1940s design (with "1949" etched into the backsides of the concrete monoliths at the ends of the approaches), but no, I don't really think that it's on the verge of crumbling

I have no fear of that bridge, at all. The reason it's so tall, is to give large , ocean going vessels , plenty of clearance. If anyone thinks this is scary, you should check out China's, Yaxi Expressway. You're in for a treat.

Isn’t this the infamous bridge (pic) that’s been floating around the net, showing an AI or photoshop version of the bridge making it look scary and too dangerous to cross? Also the pic shows I-10 N-S when it’s an E-W interstate
I’ve never never been on this stretch of I-10 before.

These old bridges at one time or another may need replacing. They are not safe by aging. If a barge struck the piers that hold up the structure, it would collapse like the Francis Scott Key and Sunshine Skyway.

    • @captianpj

If you are to concerned, just use I 210. It bypasses this bridge & uses its own. Many who are either to heavy or scared of this bridge use I 210 to avoid it. The I 210 bridge was also built for an interstate highway, not repurposed for an interstate highway.
