I've seen loads of Zelos Aurora reviews the past week or so, but this was the first one where I could count the amount of ticks every second (8). Nicely done.
I was thrilled to get a Mosaic MOP as my 2nd Zelos. Sold out so fast,looked up after celebrating and they were gone. It should go well with my Hammerhead 3 Bronze MOP. Zelos packs a lot into their watches. I love the thought that I will probably never see another one on someone else's wrist. I guess I'm a Boomer hipster. Proud to be a Boomster. Your reviews help me appreciate watches more fully. I think it’s a combination of the beautiful photography, macro shots, and your attention to detail. I first noticed it with your Seiko Alpinist Deep Lake review-before that video it was just a watch that I’d glanced at but to which I hadn’t given much thought. After that I gained a completely new appreciation and started paying attention to smaller details in other watches as well.

When I got the pre-release email on this, my jaw dropped. This thing is so bad-ass. It basically had the specs of the Archimede Outdoor (plus a superior clasp), at less than half the price, with an off-the-chain dial. At this point, the Zelos brand is becoming a spectator sport, in a good way. Great review, please never miss the chance to share a Zelos review with us!
Right up until the last second I wanted to go for an Aventurine, but seeing Gary from I Like Watches' review changed my mind and I went for the teal. Seeing your excellent footage too I'm super happy with my decision, it's so interesting! Thanks for the review.

Hey Dave. Great review as always. SWC have the Hyper G with very similar specs for a little over 500 dollars, the only difference would be the movement which is a Selita SW 200. Thanks again and keep doing what you're doing.
Good point! I think the only thing this one has that edges out the Hyper G on specs is the Titanium bracelet and tool free adjust clasp. But SWC has done tool free adjusts clasps and bracelets before, so I'm sure it's within their capabilities!
If my most recent Zelos hadn't also had a wildly-textured teal dial, I would have been tempted to get this version in the 38mm. Yeah, it's a bit crazy for a field watch, but it perfectly fits the theme of polar exploration, resembling the underside of illuminated sea ice, or an ice cave. Got the most "boring" style instead (granite), in reflection of my urban existence. Pretty stoked for this one to arrive...
Patrick, what's your secret to scoring one of Zelos offerings? They sell out within minutes of release, even if you put one in your cart you aren't guaranteed a watch until your payment gets processed. Precious seconds can mean the difference between something special and..........nothing. Do you log onto your paypal account to save time just before the watches go on sale???? I missed out yesterday........I put a MOP dial in my cart as soon as they went on sale, my payment went through but was not processed quite quick enough (the payment was then immediately reversed) Then they were all sold. Probably only dipped out by a few seconds.

I guess my secret is just "being lucky," since I also had some delays in payment processing thanks to a very zealous fraud prevention from my bank (which applies almost exclusively only to watches purchased from Asia, for some reason). Perhaps part of the difference was that I wasn't going for the MOP, which was surely the hottest one? But I can't claim to understand the process - I would have thought that having the item in your cart would guarantee purchase, at least within a fairly reasonable window. The little "you're in line to purchase" loading screen would suggest that. Beats me.

You are only guaranteed a watch when the payment has gone through to Zelos. ANY time savings throughout this process can be critical in some cases. When my failure became evident, it was only 4 minutes in and there were at least 4 dial choices sold out. I see today that all bar one dial option (the light blue) have sold out. The only dial option that looks hideous IMHO is the orange one.
Great review, Dave!!! Amazing new release from Zelos, as usual. I prefer the MOP dial, but the one reviewed here actually looks way better 'in the flesh' than the Zelos website renderings. As any Zelos purchaser will tell you, not only does this company offer incredible watches for the money, Elshan's customer service is second-to-none...........period.
Dave, your right shot this watch and that dial. I was logged on at launch this morning and had the the 38mm version in my shopping cart ready to checkout. I got an urgent phone call that couldn't wait and by the time the call was done and I started checkout this teal color was sold out. Then wnt to my second choice quickly and it was sold out. Then third choice, the Ice Blue and got that. This was only a matter of a few minutes. I hope the Ice Blue looks good even though very bright for a field watch.
No surprises here, Larry. If you don't get your order processed within the first few minutes, the best dial options are gone. My tale of woe is not to dissimilar to yours.....My phone was charging in another room, paypal sent me a verification text, by the time I finished up after sprinting to get it and entering the code, the payment went through my account but wasn't processed quick enough to get to Zelos and I missed out. 4 minutes in and the MOP had long gone (as were a few others). The difference for me between owning a stunning watch and ending up with nothing was probably only a few seconds. The only other dial options of interest had also perished amongst the flurry of fanatical Zelos purchasers, whose nimble fingers beat me to the punch.

If you want a Zelos these days, you need to be logged on (with your account set up, obviously) put your selection in your 'cart' the second they go on sale and get the payment processed ASAP. You are only guaranteed a watch once Zelos gets the money. ANY delays will likely see you watchless. I had the misfortune to miss out by only a few seconds. The payment was taken out of my account by paypal, but between them processing the transaction to Zelos the watch which I had selected had sold out (in less than 4 minutes since the launch). The 'couldn't buy' support group you mentioned in your comment would be inundated with unhappy punters in no time!!!

Was interested in the 38mm granite, but the sale didn't even seem to last an hour before everything sold out. Some on WUS seem to say that some models sold out in less than a minute.
Great channel. I was wondering if you're aware of any more watches with a domed crystal bezel. Similar to some of the Blancpain Fifty fathoms, or the Borealis Sea Storm MK2. The bezel looks like an inner tube bisected. Such a cool look. I wish there were more of them out there.
I feel like I've seen a few bit off the top of my head I know the Spinnaker Fleuss has a domed acrylic bezel insert. It's basically a large 50 fathoms homage.
@@JusttheWatch Wow that's some encyclopedic knowledge there. Never would have found that in my search. A hulk green version would be ideal, but the Prussian Blue is very nice. It's a big one at 43mm. Please let me know if any other domed bezels occur to you. You're the man!

A handful of the dial options sold out in way less than 5 minutes..which is not at all unusual for the better looking releases from Zelos. You put one in your cart and get the payment processed ASAP, otherwise it's too late. Just having one in your cart does NOT guarantee your purchase....Zelos must receive your payment before the watch is yours...........paypal took funds out of my account, but before it went to Zelos, the dial variant had sold out. Literally SECONDS can make all the difference.
Ha ha. I filmed that part the night of the release and foolishly.thought I could edit it the next morning and still get it up in time. Woke up and checked the site and saw that almost everything was already sold out !
Zelos sold out fast, but they are also equally just as fast being sold in the secondary market. And i always just buy second hand as i can get huge savings. Often i only pay 2/3 (sometimes even half) of the sold price for a like new zelos watch.
I wanted to get an Aroura Adventuretine version of this watch. I picked up the item and went to check out at 11:00 AM drop time. Per the website, it said I was in the checkout line. However, their web queue told me not to refresh the page. Three hours later, a Zelos customer service replied to my e-mail query. They seemed to be sorry for my disappointment but happy to tell me how fast they sold out. Meanwhile, all my top-pick timepieces were gone. It seems to Zelos losing my $449.00 or disappointing a customer is no big deal as long as they sell out. Corporate watch maker attitude at microbrand production quantities. Good watches and unavailability do not add up to repeat consumers.
@@sophiahauser3300, You would think that "Shipping for these launch specials will take 4-5 weeks" Zelos would at least try to work with customers with orders in their queue. Be happy you save some money!
This dial seems to be almost duplicated from the Straum Opphav range. But the Straum is a smoother execution, which I definitely prefer. It also comes in a Damascus steel case. It is half the price of the Straum though.
The reason they always sell out is because they severely limit how many they make. There are a lot of other micro brands that are just as good as Zelos and don’t limit how many they make. I’ve owned Zelos and it wasn’t that impressive so I sold it and haven’t looked back. Their market strategy relies on people’s inherent trait of impulse buying.
Fun review here. While the dial is striking to view, it overwhelms the hands and thus defeats the purpose of wearing a watch in the first place. For me, a ridiculous mistake.
Well, 4 days seems to be all it took to sell out every option in this style. I might have been seriously disappointed, but since there were no watches in this line with Day Date complications I was far from heart broken. Personally for me if it's not Day Date it's irrelevant to me.
Everything about this watch is amazing, except the way the last link integrates into the clasp which is just ugly, although that wouldn't be enough to put me off.
Well, replying to your question about best value for money, I can say that specs wise, imho SWC has a better offer with the Hyper-G at $560 (regular price, not introduction price), which has a titanium grade 5 case (not cheap grade 2) with stunning polished/brushed finish (not simple boring full brushed like the Zelos). The Hyper-G has hardening treatment above 1000 Hv too. Soft iron core for anti magnetic, yep it's there, What else, SWC has a swiss SW200 movement, not a noisy much cheaper Miyota and the SWC is also individually regulated at COSC level. Even better, the Hyper-G has 16 layers of anti reflective coating on the sapphire for supreme legibility, and most of all, it's Swiss made. not Chinese made. That being said, don't get me wrong, Zelos also offers tremendous value and they make great chinese watches. Finally, no need to say that I'm a fan of the channel. Crazy macro shots, excellent video production and interesting content. Keep up the good work!
That dial is incredible. The specs for the price seem outstanding. But....that dial just seems out of place on this tool watch. And I'm not in love with that case design. I don't know the look just doesn't call out to me as a whole composition. Focus on the dial and it looks amazing. Build and finishing look nice. But somehow put it all together.... hmmm not sure it works. That dial is incredible.
Get on Zelos's mailing list. If you see something you like coming up for release, check out any reviews and if you are still keen...buy one the SECOND it comes available. (set up an account first) Once the item is in your cart, proceed through the payment process ASAP. Only once Zelos has received your payment is the watch yours (having one in your cart is absolutely no guarantee that you will get it....I have had two watches snatched from my cart by buyers who were a little quicker on their keyboards than I was).
Not for me. True spec monster, yes. But the aesthetics with the over-the-top dial is in stark contrast to the primitively designed case. The cool clasp is also a design letdown because the sliding link is truly hideous when it becomes visible (as can be seen in other reviews of this watch).
I've got to say, I'm getting really tired of all of these limited availability launches. These were gone instantly. Other brands and products have jumped on the "scarcity creates value" bandwagon, but the net effect is that there are fewer satisfied buyers with greater frustration, and a few happy folks who had to "work" for their purchases and pay more than they would if the product were released in reasonable quantities.
Agreed, David. Unfortunately Elshan is a one man show at Zelos, and can only gamble 'small' when it comes to his releases. He usually offers quite a few dial options, with probably 1-200 of each type. With the 9 dial options in this latest release, thats 900 watches, at the very least. That's a pretty big cost to his business before selling a single watch. Sure, most of his offerings sell out within minutes, and it it VERY frustrating to miss out (by a few seconds, in my case). However, having said that, it is usually pretty obvious which dial options are stunners and will sell faster than hotcakes. Making a few more available certainly doesn't seem to be a hardship. Elshan's customer service is OUSTANDING, if you can actually get one of his offerings....which as many have seen is easier said than done.
@@grahamyoung622 I didn't mean to criticize Elshan, just express frustration at a growing trend across product markets. This trend is beyond this maker, and into even large manufacturers that aren't capital constrained. As an aside, if Elshan consistently sells out, finding a backer or (larger?) line of credit might be feasible, or taking deposits to leverage for manufacturing costs. If he's more passionate about watches than business (likely, based on his background!), he might find something like many communities in the US have, which are either groups of retired businessmen willing to advise less experienced ones or school/government councils that do the same.
@@DavZell Maybe, but then Elshan may not necessarily have anywhere near the control over Zelos than he otherwise would have, it's entirely his 'baby' so to speak. As you pointed out he certainly seems waaaaaay more interested in making bloody good watches with interesting dial options/textures and materials, at affordable prices, than making a gazillion dollars per annum. Having said that, it's still a business too. He started with a couple of watch variants to sell on kickstarter, and since then his business has flourished through hard work, innovation and outstanding customer service. Sure, there are a lot of would-be buyers out there who, in some cases, have missed out due to limited availability and an excess of passionate ,quick fingered buyers who beat them to the punch.... as many of the dial variants sell out in the time it takes you to put a watch in your cart and proceed through the payment process. Very frustrating for them. Not a perfect world....I've been there. before!!!!
I really like some of the dial colors. Unfortunately, the ones I would consider buying are "sold out". I have no patience for this sort of nonsense - its a launch so why not take all the orders you can within the time limit? No thanks.
Damn dude another new shirt I've bought shirts every two weeks now and every time I buy them within a week you have a new design can you please please put the loom shot for the samurai slash monster on a gray shirt and the Pepsi dial on a gray shirt if you can do the line drawing of a watch that's hard to see in black on the gray shirt then you surely don't have to redesign the Pepsi and the loom shot one just put them on a gray t-shirt man they'll sell out too now I got to go back on your website and get this new design that you have that you're wearing in this review damn it man or maybe I'll wait two weeks and you'll finally have my Pepsi on a gray shirt and my loom shot on a gray shirt that sure would be nice they would look great in Gray just saying

Zelos watches are certainly unique, but I'm honestly fed up with this business model of artificially limiting supply to manipulate demand, giving the illusion of exclusivity. Zelos, Helm, Smiths (Timefactors) are just a few. Buying a microbrand shouldn't be like buying a Rolex. There are plenty of other interesting watch brands that are available all day long.

The dial is really cool 😄 Perhaps the lack of restraint on the dial design is what their target market likes. Lume on the crown is an awesome detail!

Was interested in the 38mm granite, but the sale didn't even seem to last an hour before everything sold out. Some on WUS seem to say that some models sold out in less than a minute.

Great channel. I was wondering if you're aware of any more watches with a domed crystal bezel. Similar to some of the Blancpain Fifty fathoms, or the Borealis Sea Storm MK2. The bezel looks like an inner tube bisected. Such a cool look. I wish there were more of them out there.
I feel like I've seen a few bit off the top of my head I know the Spinnaker Fleuss has a domed acrylic bezel insert. It's basically a large 50 fathoms homage.
@@JusttheWatch Wow that's some encyclopedic knowledge there. Never would have found that in my search. A hulk green version would be ideal, but the Prussian Blue is very nice. It's a big one at 43mm. Please let me know if any other domed bezels occur to you. You're the man!

@@JusttheWatch I think I found what I was looking for. The Octopus Kraken OCQ06 Red Scale. Nice slim proportions. Domed sapphire bezel, and pretty affordable. I can't seem to find any youtube reviews for it. Are you familiar with them?
Too big for me, but the 38 might suit. Thats a very cool dial.
If you like this, check out ‘Straum Opphav’. They have a very identical dial, but done a lot more tastefully.

A handful of the dial options sold out in way less than 5 minutes..which is not at all unusual for the better looking releases from Zelos. You put one in your cart and get the payment processed ASAP, otherwise it's too late. Just having one in your cart does NOT guarantee your purchase....Zelos must receive your payment before the watch is yours...........paypal took funds out of my account, but before it went to Zelos, the dial variant had sold out. Literally SECONDS can make all the difference.

Ha ha. I filmed that part the night of the release and foolishly.thought I could edit it the next morning and still get it up in time. Woke up and checked the site and saw that almost everything was already sold out !

Zelos sold out fast, but they are also equally just as fast being sold in the secondary market. And i always just buy second hand as i can get huge savings. Often i only pay 2/3 (sometimes even half) of the sold price for a like new zelos watch.

I wanted to get an Aroura Adventuretine version of this watch.
I picked up the item and went to check out at 11:00 AM drop time. Per the website, it said I was in the checkout line. However, their web queue told me not to refresh the page. Three hours later, a Zelos customer service replied to my e-mail query. They seemed to be sorry for my disappointment but happy to tell me how fast they sold out. Meanwhile, all my top-pick timepieces were gone.
It seems to Zelos losing my $449.00 or disappointing a customer is no big deal as long as they sell out. Corporate watch maker attitude at microbrand production quantities. Good watches and unavailability do not add up to repeat consumers.
Same thing happened to me too. Wasn't game to refresh the page. I missed out on my first, second and third picks! 😫
@@sophiahauser3300, You would think that "Shipping for these launch specials will take 4-5 weeks" Zelos would at least try to work with customers with orders in their queue. Be happy you save some money!
This dial seems to be almost duplicated from the Straum Opphav range. But the Straum is a smoother execution, which I definitely prefer. It also comes in a Damascus steel case.
It is half the price of the Straum though.

Hard to buy something form zelos. Sold out very fast. They are great watch better than most ali express and on par with Seiko Divers in design for me.

Also.... I wish they'd made the hands a bit more prominent. They're slightly overpowered by the dial.
The reason they always sell out is because they severely limit how many they make. There are a lot of other micro brands that are just as good as Zelos and don’t limit how many they make. I’ve owned Zelos and it wasn’t that impressive so I sold it and haven’t looked back. Their market strategy relies on people’s inherent trait of impulse buying.
Fun review here. While the dial is striking to view, it overwhelms the hands and thus defeats the purpose of wearing a watch in the first place. For me, a ridiculous mistake.

Well, 4 days seems to be all it took to sell out every option in this style. I might have been seriously disappointed, but since there were no watches in this line with Day Date complications I was far from heart broken. Personally for me if it's not Day Date it's irrelevant to me.
Everything about this watch is amazing, except the way the last link integrates into the clasp which is just ugly, although that wouldn't be enough to put me off.
Really cool watches but those dials on the 38 models are just totally not it for me.
Well, replying to your question about best value for money, I can say that specs wise, imho SWC has a better offer with the Hyper-G at $560 (regular price, not introduction price), which has a titanium grade 5 case (not cheap grade 2) with stunning polished/brushed finish (not simple boring full brushed like the Zelos). The Hyper-G has hardening treatment above 1000 Hv too. Soft iron core for anti magnetic, yep it's there, What else, SWC has a swiss SW200 movement, not a noisy much cheaper Miyota and the SWC is also individually regulated at COSC level. Even better, the Hyper-G has 16 layers of anti reflective coating on the sapphire for supreme legibility, and most of all, it's Swiss made. not Chinese made.
That being said, don't get me wrong, Zelos also offers tremendous value and they make great chinese watches.
Finally, no need to say that I'm a fan of the channel. Crazy macro shots, excellent video production and interesting content. Keep up the good work!
That dial is incredible. The specs for the price seem outstanding. But....that dial just seems out of place on this tool watch. And I'm not in love with that case design. I don't know the look just doesn't call out to me as a whole composition. Focus on the dial and it looks amazing. Build and finishing look nice. But somehow put it all together.... hmmm not sure it works.

Get on Zelos's mailing list. If you see something you like coming up for release, check out any reviews and if you are still keen...buy one the SECOND it comes available. (set up an account first) Once the item is in your cart, proceed through the payment process ASAP. Only once Zelos has received your payment is the watch yours (having one in your cart is absolutely no guarantee that you will get it....I have had two watches snatched from my cart by buyers who were a little quicker on their keyboards than I was).

Not for me. True spec monster, yes. But the aesthetics with the over-the-top dial is in stark contrast to the primitively designed case. The cool clasp is also a design letdown because the sliding link is truly hideous when it becomes visible (as can be seen in other reviews of this watch).

I've got to say, I'm getting really tired of all of these limited availability launches. These were gone instantly. Other brands and products have jumped on the "scarcity creates value" bandwagon, but the net effect is that there are fewer satisfied buyers with greater frustration, and a few happy folks who had to "work" for their purchases and pay more than they would if the product were released in reasonable quantities.
Agreed, David. Unfortunately Elshan is a one man show at Zelos, and can only gamble 'small' when it comes to his releases. He usually offers quite a few dial options, with probably 1-200 of each type. With the 9 dial options in this latest release, thats 900 watches, at the very least. That's a pretty big cost to his business before selling a single watch. Sure, most of his offerings sell out within minutes, and it it VERY frustrating to miss out (by a few seconds, in my case). However, having said that, it is usually pretty obvious which dial options are stunners and will sell faster than hotcakes. Making a few more available certainly doesn't seem to be a hardship. Elshan's customer service is OUSTANDING, if you can actually get one of his offerings....which as many have seen is easier said than done.
@@grahamyoung622 I didn't mean to criticize Elshan, just express frustration at a growing trend across product markets. This trend is beyond this maker, and into even large manufacturers that aren't capital constrained. As an aside, if Elshan consistently sells out, finding a backer or (larger?) line of credit might be feasible, or taking deposits to leverage for manufacturing costs. If he's more passionate about watches than business (likely, based on his background!), he might find something like many communities in the US have, which are either groups of retired businessmen willing to advise less experienced ones or school/government councils that do the same.
@@DavZell Maybe, but then Elshan may not necessarily have anywhere near the control over Zelos than he otherwise would have, it's entirely his 'baby' so to speak. As you pointed out he certainly seems waaaaaay more interested in making bloody good watches with interesting dial options/textures and materials, at affordable prices, than making a gazillion dollars per annum. Having said that, it's still a business too. He started with a couple of watch variants to sell on kickstarter, and since then his business has flourished through hard work, innovation and outstanding customer service. Sure, there are a lot of would-be buyers out there who, in some cases, have missed out due to limited availability and an excess of passionate ,quick fingered buyers who beat them to the punch.... as many of the dial variants sell out in the time it takes you to put a watch in your cart and proceed through the payment process. Very frustrating for them. Not a perfect world....I've been there. before!!!!
I really like some of the dial colors. Unfortunately, the ones I would consider buying are "sold out". I have no patience for this sort of nonsense - its a launch so why not take all the orders you can within the time limit? No thanks.
Damn dude another new shirt I've bought shirts every two weeks now and every time I buy them within a week you have a new design can you please please put the loom shot for the samurai slash monster on a gray shirt and the Pepsi dial on a gray shirt if you can do the line drawing of a watch that's hard to see in black on the gray shirt then you surely don't have to redesign the Pepsi and the loom shot one just put them on a gray t-shirt man they'll sell out too now I got to go back on your website and get this new design that you have that you're wearing in this review damn it man or maybe I'll wait two weeks and you'll finally have my Pepsi on a gray shirt and my loom shot on a gray shirt that sure would be nice they would look great in Gray just saying

Zelos watches are certainly unique, but I'm honestly fed up with this business model of artificially limiting supply to manipulate demand, giving the illusion of exclusivity. Zelos, Helm, Smiths (Timefactors) are just a few. Buying a microbrand shouldn't be like buying a Rolex. There are plenty of other interesting watch brands that are available all day long.
