This technique of creating and draping a sleeve is amazing and new to me and I have been sewing forever. That is what I like about sewing there is never just one way of doing something. I definitely am going to incorporate this in my sewing. Thanks you, Daniela!
I love when you say, "and when its done, it should look just like this". I hope so :) Thanks for this tutorial, needed it. Keep the draping videos coming.
Hi Daniel, I love your videos just for the reason that you make pattern making and draping looks so easy and it just flows with the process. No unwanted and confusing measurements and calculations. Keep posting!
wait, will you be doing another video on transferring the drape sleeve into a paper pattern? That would be amazingly helpful. Thank you for your videos. :D
Fawn Quinn this might be a little late but you should be able to mark where all of the folded edges meet, including down the sleeve and once you undo the pins and unroll it, it will make a pattern piece. just remember to add a seam allowance!!
...I would mark all the joining (seam) lines, a few notches for matching seams and use the muslin as my pattern or lay it on paper and trace it. But I’m not the pro, but have been sewing for 50 years.
i love your videos....they are so usefull but above all i think you have a great talent and it's so interesting to learn so many things by you...!!!!!!!thanks a lot daniela!!!!!
Thank you Daniela for all your videos, they're very helpful. I was wondering if you have the oportunity, could you make a video of how to make an arm draping form? I used to have a pattern, but lost it and I think it could be super helpful to play around with sleeves Thank you!
Your videos are very helpful. l used them to make a cover to a dress form l recently updated with my measurements and it looks absolutely great. l have one question. After draping and transferring to paper, how do l add wearing ease to my pattern?
todo lo que hace esta genial me sorprendes y te felicito aunque no entiendo ni una palabra de inglés lo comprendo todo bendiciones vesos y abrasoz hasta la próxima gracias
Hello great video, very well explained. How do you do a sleeve, without the gathering at ther shoulder? Also what clothing size, is your sleeve for? Also I wanted to know, do u need a manniquin arm to drape a sleeve if u wanted to do more designs on the sleeve? I thought you needed a manniquin arm to drape a sleeve, but u have shown me I dont need one.
The gathering at the shoulder is necessary in order to provide ease for movement. The sleeve head is always bigger than the armhole, because of that. On the actual garment that extra fabric is eased in, so there are no visible gathers but the extra width is still there.
This is such an interesting ( and informative) video. Ive never seen a sleeve draped before, I've always flat patterned my sleeves. Is there an advantage to draping them as opposed to flat patterning them?
Ryan M I would think draping takes care of the fitting issues one would have to deal with after doing a flat draft. Of course, you create a sleeve pattern on paper from that draped silhouette then cut out a sample garment, baste it up and try it on to see if it needs additional changes with the fit.
Thank you for your video. One comment i would make is I am a very experinced drapist and personally I wouldnt attempt to drape a sleeve without an arm already positioned. I would be concerned about the fit
How do u make a basic arm pattern with measurements though?, I’m so confused abt how to do that...like what exactly do u measure??? I want to try this for myself, but clueless on where/how to start.
looks good but how is the fitting? coz sometimes they look good until one fits them and youd see creases. that is whats holding me back from draping a garment because the dress form is so perfect once its fit by human being..it distorts. i guess my question is, is is really better to drape than to make slopers? im always challenged by sleeves i know there is a way coz my other friends makes perfect sleeves and im too proud to ask them
if i have a customer with a particular size..how can i drape the dress on the body form? because the measurement will be different from the customer's..

Now I am interested in knowing how to go from the sleeve drape to a pattern....
...I would mark all the joining (seam) lines, a few notches for matching seams and use the muslin as my pattern or lay it on paper and trace it.
But I’m not the pro, but have been sewing for 50 years.

It depends on how thick the shouldee is and how stout the arm is. The manequin is not the exact size of the owner od the dress.
