Its harder to get into in my city as ice hockey is way more popular so there are more rinks and people in leagues. I had wanted to play roller because you can practice on your own just outside without needing ice time.
I need a beer before I start reminiscing lol anyway, one of the biggest things that bothered me was the lack of skating speed in roller. When I was 37, I coached a 2 hour speed practice, On the way home I refereed 4 hockey games. One of the dudes, "Brian Wantanabi" knew me because his OG coach was an ex speedskater. He challenged me to a race. At this point I'm a dad, everything I'm doing is to support my kids, Last time I raced seriously was 4 years before. Besides that, in a one lap race, anyone can win, just one slip and you loose. I'm not insta-commiting to this. Also, when I coached the speedskating practice I actually had to skate because there were a few 17 year olds that needed me to push them. So while I'm trying to find a way out while his whole team was staring at me, Brian says, "come on Jay, 5 laps" Just then I was like What? 5 laps is like a marathon for a hockey player, I instantly said ok.... hahaha So we started on either side of the rink and I clearly beat him on the first lap because he couldn't take the corners, and I passed him before I finished my 5 laps and he had a lap to go. I think he was 20 or so and a week later he barely got beat in the semi at narch for fastest skater. When I worked/raced at HYPER, Boyd Sutton tried to get me on the hyper team for narch so we could get an easy fastest skater gold...lol I was too busy making money. Its funny, I'm old as shit and I think Brian was on team usa 40 and over...lol Even Scott and Kevin Labeda who are like my little brothers have been on a few old man teams. Keep making cool videos and promoting hockey. I hope you aren't offended by an old mans roller hockey memories.
As a beer league hockey player I wanted to train during the summer too so I borrowed some traditional hi-lo roller skates from a friend of mine. Took me 5 minutes to get a giant bruise on my butt and hurt my wrist :( So I came home and ordered marsblade r1's. And I'm shocked at how much more similar they are to ice skating. I only fell once during my first hour with them, and that was during a heat of my training session i forgot that I'm on rollerblades where inside leg stops are quite different.
I had those skates… the wheels you’re using are made for outdoor courts it’ll be a night and day difference if you get indoor wheels
Can you tell me which wheels are he using now ,and the shoes name...
@@ho_mo_sapienBauer RSX with stock wheels
@@shaneottney8752dude the blue rsx come with 7A, pretty sure that’s an indoor wheel 😩

I can’t believe they filmed it in the rink I play in
I'd take Luke on my team
Is the roller hockey player's blade a Draisaitl burger flipper?
Beautiful roller rink!
Best in Canada
i have the same leggins as luke for skaterhockey the black bauer
The rink in Langley I think I played ice there in late 1990s hmm
it was a roller arena then too your thinking of the sportsplex
Buddy come to Long Island, I’ll teach you about the game that started here. Long Island is the Mecca of roller hockey.
The guys I play with told me to use the heel and back two wheels. Works great, but I’m a lot better at ice.
Unreal!
Labeda wheels are the best on earth. 1996 Narch Champion
pure maple>
Are those Bauer rsx skates? Did you change the wheels?
Hi from NorCal. Playing on asphalt 😅
get Luke on some better wheels
This is amazing
You’re amazing!
Love this!
Pure maple
California heat? It’s like 75F there in July
Yo, Luke isn't a "skilled" ice hockey player! He's like a Div 5-6 mens league player at best. But either way, i like the concept of this video!
