I just finished this one today and wrote my review in my book journal. Agree on length, however, also agree on the author’s writing style and the beauty of it. I often felt like I was in the late 1800’s and not in 2017, during the latter part of the book. I enjoyed my time with the book’s beauty inside and out (that cover!). It was my first Sarah Perry book and I plan on reading the Essex Serpent. Thank you for your review!
My first Sarah Perry and I loved her writing and enjoyed this book! She is not just a writer, but an artist. I look forward to reading her other novels. I do agree that some will not enjoy it though since it is so quiet and not overly plot driven.
I just started Enlightenment recently but I am enjoying it so far. Like you, I really like Perry's writing. I read & enjoyed both The Essex Serpent and Melmoth. I just finished reading My Friends by Hisham Matar- I hope you review it! It's very moving & unique!
Sorry for the delayed response! I still have to read Melmoth. I get so swept up in her writing and I am sure that I will enjoy it. I wish she released more books but I also understand that she is an author that shouldn’t be rushed. I just need to be patient. 😂
I loved The Essex Serpent, but struggled with this one. It did redeem itself in the last 75-100 pages. I just wish the first part had been more enjoyable to me.
I'm on the verge of finishing. It's not my cup of tea. It's not for tyhe character that i find interesting and complex. it's the part of the space involved in the plot.
Very well done, as always😊
Thank you for the review, I am looking forward to this book 😊 I have read James and Orbital from the longlist and enjoyed both of them
I wasn’t sure whether I wanted to read this one but you’ve convinced me that I do. Great review!
I'm taking a short Booker break but after your review I'll start this one next.

I’ve read 8 so far not liking them much and some put me in a slump but think will try wild houses next x
I have heard a lot of people talk about how boring this year’s list is. It doesn’t feel like a list of Booker titles to me

Sorry it didn’t work out for you.
