  • This is my July 5th ride, the day after the Big Bar Ferry ride.
2020 Honda CB500X with Rally Raid Level 2 upgrade (no spoked wheels, however).
This is a fantastic ride. The video footage includes the access into Seton Portage from Lillooet and then followed by the Highline Road (Douglas Trail).
All 5 segments of the ride were great.

Wow Doug. That's some amazing scenery you have there. I might just have to spend a couple days looking around that area when I'm on my Dempster Highway Journey. Lillooet is one of overnight stops planned for my trip as well.....

I did this road from Gold Bridge tp Seaton Portage, then south to Darcy. I went with my 6 year old son in a minvan. I had to stop 3/4 way down into Seaton Portage as the brakes overheated. From Seaton Portage to farcy the first 10 miles or so was on a track not wide enough for 2 cars to pass....someone has to back up. Was spectacular.

Sounds like a great trip with your son and memories that will last a lifetime.
Maybe, one day he will do the same trip with his kids.
      Thanks for tuning in.

I had a CB500X , I didn't;t do the Rally Raid upgrades and even without the upgrades it would have handled that road well. Just sold , 2 days ago, my last bike a BMW Rt and at 82 yrs. old and a back that is giving me issues my riding days are over. Enjoyed your video.

I would agree the stock CB500X would be fine for the route. I would recommend a bash plate but the upgraded suspension is probably not necessary, but nice to have.
Thanks for watching the video. Like you, I do know my riding days will come to an end but will still be able to relish the memories.

Hurely pass is also an epic scenic ride if you're planning to go to Goldbridge.

Highline actually drains well and isn't an issue when it's raining. In fact traction is better.
Gas was where you first came across civilization after Mission pass. There's the school on your right and then the gas station. It has a credit card setup that can be used 24/7 .
There is also a cool bar and restaurant at the old Seton hotel.

Thanks for the intel. It is great to know just in case there is some rain. It is such a good route it would be a shame to avoid it had I thought it would be bad.

I am just putting together my latest, where a ride up to a lookout tower I have done twice before, this time I crashed on the way up AND way down.
You should hear my list of excuses. Ha.
In any case, it seems like I have to tackle it again.

When I was a young lad, my parents owned the old Tyax Lodge on Tyaughton Lake. When we would go up there in the summer, we would drive to Squamish ( where the road ended), put the car on the train flatcar, and then be taken to Seton Portage (or perhaps Shelalth ? )where the car would be taken off the train so we could then drive to Goldbridge. This was before the dam was built. Doug, do you live in the Vancouver area ?

I did not know that history of access into the area. I just happen to see videos or comments of great places to ride and log them for future trips. I first found out about Gang Ranch in 2020 (a friend and also Griz Lee) and rode it in 2022. Since then I looked for other rides in the area and came across Big Bar Ferry (for some reason I keep calling it High Bar Ferry??) and this Seton Portage / Highline route.
Another friend told me about Gold Bridge but I did not have time to piece it in.
I will check out Tyax Lodge and other places people suggest, so thank you.
I am from Calgary, Alberta so about an 8 hour drive to get out there. Perhaps, we shall ride together sometime?

16:50 When you get to the bridge, stop half way across and look down below. I'm not sure if they will still be there but, you should see some very large old logs. Those logs are the old bridge which was replace by the current bridge about 35-40 years ago.

I will definitely have a stop there and have a look. They would probably be quite something if they could be salvaged. Always great to get the best intel from locals.

I'm curious to know which model of Klim jacket and pants you are using. They have shared many kilometers of adventure together.

    • @dougiverson4297
      @dougiverson4297  2 месяца назад

They are the Klim Latitude jacket and pants purchased in mid 2016 for my first Dempster trip. They have 120,000 km on them at an average speed of say 80 kph. So 1500 hours.
About 2 years ago the jacket zipper was acting up so i sent it back to Klim and in ten days it was back with new zipper. They are still waterproof but in downpour I will put Frogg Toggs over top so I don’t have a soaked jacket in my tent.
I would sleep in a ditch with flowing water with them, when they were new (if absolutely necessary).
My latest adventure two days ago, I was mid thigh deep wading thru a mud slide to see if we could get the bikes through. Yup, no way out with multiple slides across the road.
Used iphone 14 SOS feature and we were evacuated by helicopter. Returning tomorrow as road may be repaired.
      Video coming soon. Ha.

Glad to hear that. Hope you had a great adventure up here in Canada.
When I planned my 4th trip up there, I reached out to about 8 friends with the proposal to go. I reached out 278 days before the departure date with it clearly shown, 278 days to departure. about every 30 days, I had a new bit of information with the counter now at: 248, 218, … days and the list grew to about 18 interested people. 6 riders went and one support truck.
Honestly, I knew two of us were going for sure and maybe 4.
Keep in touch and send me an email about your experience, route, and the evolution of your thoughts as you approached the route.
