Great video Derek. And yes, I'm watching it on Christmas day! I always do a flue integrity test first on a service. I had 1 fail massively a few months ago, checked outside and the customer had propped a massive trampoline up on its side against the back of the house totally covering the flue terminal! All the best mate.
I admit I shy away from serving Worcester boilers but this was great Video, Give me an Ideal to fix any day, The amount of Engineers that don’t do a sweep test after changing gaskets😮 even the manufactures own service engineers don’t do it sometimes, I always do it but sometimes a gust of wind blows the & I have to do another one especially on a logic, I’ve done sweep tests on brand new logics & had temporary high readings then ok only to find loose nuts on the burner head, I told ideal & they don’t seem concerned 😣🤔 Brilliant videos as usual 👍
i had this exact fault on a job a couple of years ago. the guy had smashed the end of the flue terminal off with a set of ladders. On another job, after a big storm I was called to a locking out boiler, the wind had blown over their washing line and the clothes were blocking the flue. Not a wasted journey there as those electrodes were gonna cause that boiler to stop soon anyway i reckon. happy christmas to you and yours.
I was told gas pressure should ever be on the min in spec because the householder might turn on their oven, and the street at teatime might cause it to drop, then drop their gas below min required for safe operation? For Eg, if 16.5 is min, then the reading should be above 16.6 or fit a bigger gas supply pipe or range the max heating load down in settings?
Hi Derek -- yes iv'e had the same problem on worcester's flue plume kit joint connection coming apart too -- it's not a really secure connection to stert wih -- that air intake looks close to that adjacent wall -- it can't be much more than the 600mm required ! at lest you gave the bolier some love and effection --- take care + all the best -- Jim ...
I had a similar problem with a Worcester……the CO/CO2 ratio was very high……I had phoned the tech phone line, the verdict was the gas valve needed replacing……when I went to disconnect it and fit another, the rubber hose between it and the heat exchanger had a small split in it, which was causing the problem…..
Wouid have been good to video the gas valve adjustment to get the Co2 readings where you wanted would be interested next next time you get one. Cheers Good video hope you didn’t charge her 🙈🤣
Just seen this one Derek. We've all done something like that at some time. Belated Christmas greetings to you and your family, and have a happy New Year.
I’ve been through same problem And without changing any part i replaced the flue because some one squeezed the terminal end If you take the cover iff it works fine and the co incidentally it was same days near new year 😂
To be fair the fan sounded like it had faulty bearings and would eventually cause an issue or fail altogether and with case on, the resistance in the fan will increase slightly. It does however prove the necessity of a good all over visual before starting work. All the best!
Unbelievable, we were always taught that as you are walking up to the property try and see if you can view the external flue and terminal, not after you have exchanged a lot of unwanted and expensive parts to the boiler that still never made it work correctly. It felt like you were just guessing what parts to fit plus you need to move out of the past and wear work safety gloves, a lot of sharp edges of metal inside that boiler (Health and Safety) (How much did you charge you Sister for all those parts that wasn’t really required…?)
@@GarryWinch all the parts were required and of course I didn’t charge her a penny as for gloves I like to feel what I am doing so not a chance will I wear gloves repairing a boiler.
😂😂 it happens to everyone, even to the most experienced ones. Once I got a call from a client because her boiler had the same problem, and after a long struggle from me , she says , - I don't now if its important but last week some guys went up to the roof to do some repairs ... I went to find my ladder , climbed up , and voilà! I found the cause in less than 30 seconds 😅 Joyeux Noël from Lorraine, France 🎅🎅

@@applanateearth586 correct but what if I tested for this or they only have the one gas appliance. I didn’t show all the tests I did.

Day off and family rate😂 merry Christmas Derek
It’s always helpful buddy, thanks for sharing
That gas pipe hose always needs replacing if it's the coiled type for the smooth one. the older type was prone to splitting
Happy Christmas to you and family Derek

Good video hope you didn’t charge her 🙈🤣
We all do stuff like that sometimes…. Forgetting the basics
Merry Christmas Derek!
Nice one! Tightness test and flue check first.
I usually put some small washers behind the screws on them flues stops that problem
How did you check the expansion vessel without draining the boiler?
@@mikewebster892 I did I just didn’t show it.

I was shouting at the video all the way through “CHECK THE FLUE “ ha ha ha merry Xmas
Yep.
Works with the case off but not on, mmm 🤔🫣🙂
How is the tpi measuring 21% O2? I was always told 20.9%

Worcester tell you to do your co/co2 with case off . They will increase slightly when case is fitted. And fI obviously with case on 😂. Nice vid 👍🏻
Hi TopKat what an amazing trick to change CO2 readings in less than 2 seconds 😅👏
Sure it was the pallet and not the ladders putting up christmas lights?
@Stormin_Mike the neighbour blamed the plumber who had just done the new bathroom and put the pallet there 😂

Never mind we've all been there...😆😁😗🤫
Done that once or twice 😂👌🏼
cant check the water pressure without draining the heating pressure. false reading on that pump...
Didn’t show everything I did but I can assure you that there was no water in that boiler when I checked the pressure
