Are you ready for a video that all my top tips for getting the BIGGEST, BEST, MOST FABULOUS garlic harvest? here you go ruclips.net/video/FfJQF1UGBnY/видео.htmlsi=zpwyqly_1f5LcrmO
Planted all my 104 bulbs just yesterday! I've had bad results in the round grow bags / pots, gave me lots of small bulbs. I've done them all in a bed this year and it's my first year back to growing next year due to several house moves, so my garlic bed is the start to next year and gardening again. Wippeee.
I'm looking forward to seeing how they do. I don't have a Greenstalk, if the garlic does well, I may be tempted. I love garlic, don't love that they take up valuable garden space for so long. Wishing you and the garlic good luck.
I look forward to seeing how big they get in the little pockets. Any that I planted near the edge of the bed last year didn't get big at all. The limited space on one side kept it all small. This year I did 2 rows up the middle of the 5 foot wide bed, after adding several buckets of rabbit and quail cage clean-out.
Yeah it’s going to be interesting On one hand there is actually way way more space than you think, the little pockets aren’t actually pockets. There’s a whole massive level there and the “pockets” are just the visible bit. On the other hand d, in a container it’s all up to me to remember to water and feed
Greenstalk is on my Christmas wish list. I think the only thing you may have to keep an eye on is watering (ironically) because your soil is extra free draining and we occasionally have very short periods of drought even in winter.
yeah I mentioned the other week that I found I hadn't been as careful with watering and feeding as I should have been. I just assumed the rain would get in, and it doesn't!!!
I hadn't tried growing garlic in troughs but this might be a solution for me. I now know why my garlic were stunted they were planted in rocky, hard clay and sandy soil. (Not my own, thankfully). I will put worm castings as a light mulch for this year, then leaves.
@@eliandkate I planted them further apart this year because planting closer last year made them smaller bulbs. I also dried, froze, hung, infused and fermented garlic to try it in several different ways. The soil the garlic is in will keep the scent of garlic making it perfect for planting tomatoes next summer confusing pests. 😂. It worked this past summer too!
I don't grow garlic I just like looking at your garden 🏡🌿🌼🏵️ still so colourful 🌿 I grew lettuce in a stacking planter this year - it blew over and scattered them everywhere 🥴🙄😆
awwww that's lovely of you :D Yeah I would be a bit worried about having stacking planters in my garden too, we're in a bit of a wind trap, but the greenstalks are robust as.... they've survived all the storms of the last few years with no issues (have I just jinxed myself now????)
I’m late to garlic planting this year. I had a stash of bulbs ready to plant, got them out the other week and found something had got to it and munched all of it 🫣 i’ve had a mad panic to buy replacement garlic, hopefully it arrives soon
Perfect timing on this video! I'm waiting for the colder weather. It has been unusually mild here in Zone 4, Norway. I have everything ready though and can go when I see it turn colder. I have to go a bit deeper than most since we get pretty cold winters, down to the 20s Celsius. I will also cover the garlic with a thick layer of mulch. Last season I used hay and got too much grassweeds in the bed. This year I have harvested grass before it went to seed and dried it and I'll also use woodchips. I'm properly tucking them in for the winter. :D
Last year I planted garlic in my greenstalk but I was too late. I ended up with mush. This year I planted about a week ago, again in the greenstalks. Hopefully I’m right on time this year. I too did 1 bulb per pocket of hard neck.
By green garlic do you mean you are growing it to use the stalks rather than the bulbs? I know green garlic as meaning using garlic that is straight from the ground, undried but figure you mean something else?
Thank you so much for these tips about growing garlic. My crop from last year didn't fair well.... it grew the stalks however the bulbs were very small. maybe i didn't tuck them in good enough though? I'm zone 3/4 in Wisconsin. I have been feeling down and came across your video about garlic❤ thank you for the inspiration and for sharing your wonderful wisdom and encouragement!!❤❤❤
awwwwwwww, I'm so glad I've given you a wee boost. I best your garlic last year was a combination of this... not enough food, not enough water or not enough sun. I betcha! So this year, sunny spot, remember to keep it watered and fed! I've got my fingers crossed for you🤞
@eliandkate Ah...I believe you are correct! This time I'll plant in a sunny spot and make sure there's good soil and I'll give them a good watering right away. Here's to an awesome garlic crop for us all! 🥂 cheers!! 🌈

Wow thank you for the prompt response, another (very little favour) could you also follow me to then maybe coach me on how to be so camera friendly, but in the MAIN, what to be sowing in a garden and allotment as each month goes on, I am VERY NEW but NO greenhouse, NO polytunnel and ONE shed :) x

Well i think youre brilliant!. The way you describe every detail, that is what i need to start growing everything properly. Thank you so much .
Ohhhh I’m so glad it’s been a. Good one for you!!!!!!! Good luck with your garlic!

104!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great idea to use the GreenStump for garlic. Looking forward to seeing the results.
You are in charge of reminding me to water and feed! 🤪
First year growing garlic. First year gardening actually. I planted chesnook red, music, and elephant in my raised bed.
Oh an extra exiting year for you then. 👏👏👏

Our weather has been crazy, hot, then frost, then hot. I'm planting mine this weekend. Green Stump 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
You know it'll be a scorching sunny week once you do don't you?!🤣

Yeah might be worth working on that soil if you are going to grow in it.
We have the same issue, with clay soil. Frustrating 🤪
😂 YEAH - GARLIC SEASON! I planted 6 beds of it last week.😊
Six beds!!!!! Woah!!!!!

@samanthahoos9827 from my experience…. Don’t plant strawberries in that bed! 🤣
Great video ❤
Why thank you Lorraine 😃

oh yeah - straw shouldn't have the seeds (Hay does), if you ever buy it :D
@@eliandkate Live and learn. I made the same mistake with nettlewater once. I had nettles pop up for years lol
@Oktopia oh no! That would have been crazy!!!
@@eliandkate This is why it's useful watching you guys. You learn for me :D

@@eliandkate Fingers crossed for both of us!
My garlic has been in the Greenstalk for weeks. I'm growing mine as green garlic

Hey Eli, do you have a link about the planter you have used for the cloves? This would be perfect at home and at the allotment. great vid TY
I do indeed.

oh great thx for this vid. i've only tried growing garlic once and completely failed.. in a pot. will try again this year now and see what happens.
All about
Space
Water
Nutrition
Sun
Keep an eye on those and you should do grand
Trying four different hard neck and elephant this year.
Will be a fun one to see what the differences are between the varieties
@@eliandkate exactly fifty six years of gardening so trying experiments keep it interesting.
Thank you for the video.
Are you going to cover or find it necessary to cover your garlic in the greenstalk with mulch of some kind?
No, it’s something I spoke about in a previous video, I don’t mulch my garlic, it’s too wet here for that.
