The main motive for them is to "get rid of the fakes who claim to be us" because they are a little cuckoo.

Tokito should have thrown Tanjiro's new sword, but Tokito would have died, so Tanjiro would not have been able to chop off Hanteigu's head, then he would have killed Tanjiro, Nezuko and Genya, and Zokahuten would have finished off Mitsuri. Next, they would destroy the entire village and the blacksmiths in it, then the demon hunters would not have Nichiren blades and they would no longer be able to fight and then the demons would become omnipotent and would have invaded Japan (VERY bad English)
