Glad I came on this video! Been using it as a walkthrough.
My dad and me would play this when I was a kid. He just recently passed over the holidays and I've been playing this version on my steam deck for the first time. It's so amazing, but some parts are so cryptic but finding a guide was difficult.

❤️How lovely is to share videogame moments with the ones you love. And happy this gameplay is useful for you. Now it is easier to find gameplays or walkthrough of this games, but in their original times you depended on the press of the moment.

I wanted the sequel to come out on the Master System so bad. Would have been great.

I like the Valley of Doom on Master System. I think is a bit graphically improved.

I played Golvellius: Valley of Doom when I was a kid and loved it. My favourite SMS game. I remember wanting a sequel or remake and finding this game on the internet. Back then, there were no working emu's for this, let alone an English translation. So watching this video was a treat to see a gem from the old days for the first time. Thanks so much for uploading this playthrough! 😊

@C7OUD_STRIFE_ Wow! Are you for real? That would be AMAZING!!! 😱😱😱
EDIT: It's on Nintendo Switch the MSX2+ version and they didn't even translate the game... that's disappointing. I was looking forward to playing the game with English translation 😞

I remember beating golvellius as a 9 in year old in 1989. The ending where you be friend Golvellius and he carries you on his shoulder into sunset away left me eager for the sequel.

I think that Master System is a bit better: graphics, playability. But the MSX2 version rocks!

The MSX version is a "director's cut". The origianl game was developped for the first MSX (Maoh Golvellius), which was released as an improved game on the Master System. From there Compile developped Shin Maoh Golvellius for the MSX. Both have different strong/weak aspects because they're different systems in the end, but overall the MSX2 version feels like the "complete" version that couldn't fit on a cartridge.

@@jperformerretrofuture961 Due to the different hardware capabilities, the SMS version has better overall sprites, while the MSX2/2+ version has better backgrounds and bosses sprites.

You have download links on the description. You also need a MSX Emulator. I'm currently using Openmsx, but there many are others, such as BlueMSX, fMSX...

FInally beat this game, thanks for the walkthrough but my general impressions are... it could have been better. I think Hydlide 3 was actually more interesting because you had more puzzles to solve and abilities and challenge in the dungeons, plus you can talk to npcs in towns. This game was a very bare bones basic fetch quest dungeon action rpg and thats pretty much it with very little plot. The combat kind of reminds of Crystalis, but crystalis is just vastly superior for alot of reasons.

Lot of info in your comments! I agree: Golvellius 2 is simple in plot, rpg elements and combat, but that's one of its charms. On the other hand, I never finished any game of Hydlide saga, mainly because it seems to be (for me) too much rpg deep for a cool playing in a 8-bit game, but I will think in check this Hydlide 3 version. I didn't know Crystalis, it seems a funny game.

@@jperformerretrofuture961 Crystalis is probably the most evolved game of the 3 and given the time of when it was released, that is pretty impressive. It can easly replace any of those action rpgs on the Super Nintendo in terms of its gameplay. Hydlide is note worthy for being the first action rpg ever created, it pioneered the genre pretty much back when the action command was a simple "Bump mechanic" and was released way back in 1984 on the Japanese PC-88 computer systems. The third entry is a bit less primitive as the first but still its pretty dated, how ever its historically immportant for being one of the first action rpgs concieved.
