    I would called this album "Concerto for percussion and strings in E minor No. 6"

      Necrotic Nick- It’s a wild and cathartic listen for sure. That drum work is insane.

    This album is quite insane. I was always a very casual Ulcerate fan because their brutal style was too dissonant for me but the injection of emotion into their sound now has everything in sync together. I never thought I would need a band to inject more emotion and melody for it to make more sense to me!!??? BTW I love that Hellripper shirt, great and underrated band like if Midnight was doing amalgam covers of Metallica and Black Dhalia Murder songs.

      Exact same thing happened to me, this band was totally over my head for years but this album clicked 100% for me and now I'm in love lol

    This is an incredible Ulcerate album, and I love all their work. What a monstrous record! I love them slightly melodic passages that have been creeping in because they add so much more tension and release to the dissonance. Makes it even more powerful. Spot on review, unlike 1/2 of the news media that thinks it was literally said and a literal suggestion to inject disinfectant. They’re brain dead as is, so a little bleach in their gene pool isn’t going to hurt anything.

      Go back and listen to The Destroyers of All and Of Fracture and Failure. Their drummer is a beast. Look up Jamie St. Merat, and prepare to have your brain melted.

    Great review! I think Ulcerate have pioneered their own sub genre which I've called Post-Death Metal for a while and dare I add in a "technical" into that title.
    Surprised you didn't mention Gorguts as a reference for their sound. I know of a small bunch of other newer artists who are comparable too, but it's still very much a niche and other these bands sound a little like Ulcerate or are blatantly worshipping their sound to a B grade. Totally agree with your sentiments on the record being more accessible but it not being to its detriment. This is a much more focused and human sounding record, rather than bleak and chaotic. I always felt as if Ulcerate's music spoke to the listener at a distance, cold and oppressive. This album felt quite warm and almost womb like, though in a way too close forcing you into uncomfortable but necessary introspection!

    • @jamminjon8074
      @jamminjon8074 4 года назад +2

      Yep. Couldn't have said that better. We brought up Gorguts, but outside while we were smoking before we filmed. Fail. I blame Nick, but just in general. Haha.

    • @thrallsofmetal
      @thrallsofmetal  4 года назад +2

      Necrotic Nick- There were a lot of bands we brought up and subsequently forgot. Luckily Jon forgot his comparisons to Hanson, Duran Duran and Sublime. Don't know where he got those from. lol j/k

    • @jamminjon8074
      @jamminjon8074 4 года назад

      Luckily for Necrotic Nick I still am well aware of what I picked as a comparison (as far fetched as it may have been). Please (and I mean this from the bottom of my black, little soul) don't hesitate to call Nick old, and shame him for missing the obvious comparison to Gorguts. He is old, and smells like Gorguts.

    Awesome review! This album was mind-blowing with the different elements they brought to the table with just only three members. The musicianship was tight and the energy flowed with the songs. I felt it was a very creative process that they delved into and the results show with what they came up with which is simply a masterpiece. This album will definitely be in my top ten of 2020!

    But had to come say thanks for the awesome review. Love that you guys actual love the shit and don't jus plow through reviews for views. Thanks again can't wait till the next thing you guys make me keep going back to!!

    The main band that this Album reminds me of, that wasn’t mentioned is Gorguts, especially colored sands and Pleiades dust. Heavy Gorguts influence I.m.o. But influences aside it’s just an awesome album. Loved it.

    In some ways they may be heavier than portal because they give it dynamics. Portal is chaos and stays . This isn't chaotic like portal . I guess Its called death gaze now.

    Nice review guys. I’m fairly new to death metal but I’ve been a fan of black metal for years. I found these guys after someone compared them to Deathspell Omega so I had to check them out. I love their dissonant sound, and you guys seem to like that too. Do you have any suggestions for me for other death metal that has similar dissonance and atmosphere?

    • @thrallsofmetal
      @thrallsofmetal  4 года назад +1

      Necrotic Nick- Immolation has always been great at that. It still has the qualities of old school death metal, but their riff structure is insane and they always incorporate dissonant melodies in their work. Blood Incantation (also Spectral Voice since they share members) also have a lot as well. That's what I can think of off the top of my head but those are pretty solid ones.

    I feel this was way, way better approach to reviewing than focusing on breaking down each and every song on the album. Otherwise I think you were generous to this album as I couldn't quite get into on first listening but may be I need to listen to it more

    This album sounds like blackened death metal to me. BTW I checked out that Hellripper, the first song on their 2017 album (I believe) sounds exactly like Metallica's Hit the Lights. Cool stuff regardless.
