I don’t know, I think it’s different having a beer in front of someone then smoking a joint. You don’t get 2nd hand drunk from someone’s beer, but you can suck up a lot of weed smoke in a small room with someone for an hour. Also agree if you can’t go one hour without getting high, you have a problem.

Here is the thing with squatters rights, they are the poster child for outdated anachronistic laws that need revision of to be removed from the books.
In most American jurisdictions the laws date back to the mid 19th century and were ment to dissuade absentee landowners and speculators from hoarding unused land and if you really read the language of the laws it is incumbent upon the squatters to make some kind of improvement to the property, in the day this usually involved putting up a building of some sort.
Unfortunately, along the way this all somehow became tied to private residential property which was never the laws intention.
In my reckless youth I was something of a anarchist and squatted a few times but even then we would usually seek out bank owned properties, family homes were off limits.

The only difference between drinking and smoking in front of someone is you could get a contact high. If someone is drinking it’s not going to affect you just potentially tempt you so there is a difference.

The old definition of squatters rights was totally legit. In my state its if the property was abandoned for more than.....15yrs?, and you make improvements after settling in, its yours. Totally fair, keeps areas from falling into disrepair for no good reason. Incentivized ppl to improve upon shit already on disrepair. Far as i know its never actually been achieved, which is kinda what the purpose is. Its a threat to not abandon property.

When I went to see The Dark Knight Rises in the theater, there was a kid in front of me who kept asking his parents, "Is that Batman?", every time a character appeared on-screen. Nothing as egregious as Dave's story, but I always found it strange how this kid didn't know who Batman was.

My brother and sister in law let a gal move into one of their houses and she just quit paying rent and the law kept standing on her side but 5 years later and 85,000 dollars later they finally got her out but the house is in shambles 😢
