I saw Fripp solo a long time ago in a tiny club: a wall of electronics and his guitar to fill the room with shapes and colors and scents, all made of sounds. Amazing.
Even though he's known mostly as a guitar player - what a great voice!. Spot on pitch, powerful and nuanced too. Adrian Belew is amazing. The other-worldly sounds he creates on his guitar are so unique and unbelievable- and his voice so unique.
Am always touched by the atmosphere of this song. I know Discipline gets all the attention but of the Discipline era, Beat is my favorite. Three Of A Perfect Pair indeed, amazing era for KC.
I was introduced to Crimson via Three - it’s still an absolute favorite (Robert, something from that one on the (hopefully) next tour?). The slap bass on Sleepless was mind expanding, and Matte Kudasai is just sublime. So sorry I missed Belew on tour a year or so age. 😢
This has been one of my favorite King Crimson songs from the first time I heard it. The textures are so delicate, you feel like a single wrong note could ruin a rendition of the song.
Adrian with the 'seagulls', this was a treat a few times during the Pier concerts on the Hudson River, Manhattan, esp/ with the sun setting behind the crowd. It always seemed like a blues song but with a whole new approach. 'Walking On Air' I think is even a lil better, amazing.
Fripp and Belew were such a brilliant compliment and contrast to each other. I bet when people first heard about their partnership they thought it wouldn't work
@urabadperson the person you're replying to didn't say that people disliked it, they simply said that they imagined that many people's initial reactions were ones of skepticism when hearing about them working together, which I think is fair.
So deliciously good! Just four blokes on a stage, all making sounds with familiar instruments and with plenty of breathing space, yet it sounds so rich; like you couldn't squeeze anything more in. And thank you for your description, BB; as always, it adds to my understanding and appreciation, while filling my head with more questions. And we like that.
I fortunately had the privilege to be at Merriwether Post Pavillion (outside of DC), to hear and see this... The Discipline album performed.. about 81, or (maybe 82).. The simple stage set was deeply colored lighting on the backdrop curtain.. It changed to a different color but you never noticed when. What an experience.. My mother (who was a harpist), liked this song...🎶👍 Thank you for posting this.. (and for the memory..).😌❣️
I remember my first concert of King Crimson. In Prague probably 92? Not sure now, but was onmore. And voice of Adrian....like a clearist water from mountains, uncredible, absolutely beautiful
I have no clue! It’s the second chord that Fripp plays. I believe he added an extra note to that chord from the original, or he altered the notes of the first chord
I knew the middle pick up of a strat sounds nice but Mr. Sir Adrian Belew takes it to another level. And what a song! Those 'simple' melodies are the prettiest.
With discipline came a big cloud of warm, delicious and innovating inspiration on this planet, touched a lot of us and left an energetic ball of something in all the hearts which were ready for this........Mr. Bruford, I'm thankful i shared this time with your melodic drumming and were also pleasured by Mr. Fripp, Mr. Belew and Sir Levin.
Seagulls, elephants, and dinosaurs. What is next animal Adrian will create next ? Oh wait. I forgot the rhinoceros. Mr. Bill, I like what you did for the rhythm. Laid back, reserved, with just the right amount of accents.
I know it's adolescent to analyze song lyrics, but I assume it's about an elderly woman in a nursing home in the US just waiting for the end. Thoughtful sentiment.
In my fantasy he's in Japan on tour and sending long notes thru bbs or fax and she's in the US waiting, falling asleep in a chair and the system is slow so on both their screens it says MATTE KUDASAI. And it's raining 80s neon pink.
This is the First Song Adrian was able to Attack lyrics and Melody to.. the First Pieces he and Robert worked, were the tipical hard Guitar compositions like Frame by Frame and Adrian was having an hard time because he didnt get yet, how to build a Song around that.. then, Robert came with these old chords, and everything changed.. the song is about him being far away from America and his wife, and him saying "Matte Kudasai" to her.. in that particolar moment Adrian was missing his wife so much, because of the musical difficulties..
I just love how Fripp is in the dark, so serious and mysterious. And Belew almost laughing when he did seaguls sounds, mounting a landscape. So cool.
I saw Fripp solo a long time ago in a tiny club: a wall of electronics and his guitar to fill the room with shapes and colors and scents, all made of sounds. Amazing.
Stage lights are frickin BRIGHT, yo
😂
I find this, one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard :")
Me too
Among the finest ballads ever written. Beautiful.

My favorite era of King Crim!! I love Indiscipline, and Neil and Jack and Me. All of Beat Is fantastic!!

Its mean "please wait"
what a comeback!
I like listening to this song just before I go to sleep. It somehow gets you in the “rest mode”.
me too man!
Belew is such a singular talent. Phenomenal.
Jimi Hendrix 3.0 is what he is.
@@urabadpersonthat's great
beautiful sad song, not long enough...thank you Bill, still my favorite drummer all these years
The prettiest things last the shortest.
This has been one of my favorite King Crimson songs from the first time I heard it. The textures are so delicate, you feel like a single wrong note could ruin a rendition of the song.
Absolutely, there's a spell that's woven. I love so many songs from this era of KC, but this one has a magic all its own.
KC was capable of so many moods. This tune has always moved me, the melancholy and texture.
One of my favourites from the Belew era.
And your text is great!
Imagine that KC would produce love songs.

Wrong. This album was immediately well received by the higher intellect community. Sadly, it stayed in that culture and not expanded beyond it.
@urabadperson the person you're replying to didn't say that people disliked it, they simply said that they imagined that many people's initial reactions were ones of skepticism when hearing about them working together, which I think is fair.
This is a double great song by King Crimson ❤️❤️ the lyrics are sublime.
What a sublime description of personality through music. Thanks Dr Bruford!
So deliciously good!

My God, this song reminds me of my youth ... 15yo already enjoying king crimson all the way.
2k views for simply one of the most beautiful songs ever written. Mankind is sadly not heading in the right direction.
2,000 of us shall save the world
best moment of king crimson
Always makes me so emotional

Bill, I just love the descriptions you include with these videos! The music is pretty good, too.
Great song, Legendary band...."Long Live King Crimson".
That chord at 0:14 automatically makes this version 100 times better to me! That chord alone is one of the greatest single sounds I have ever heard!!!
what chord is it
I have no clue! It’s the second chord that Fripp plays. I believe he added an extra note to that chord from the original, or he altered the notes of the first chord

Gorgeous rendition.

Except that isn't a Strat but a Music Man version of one.
@@marcanglin7127 It's actually not a Music Man either, but an Ibanez Blazer.
First time the description of a video made me subscribe to a channel :-) Thank you for that.
I want to comment but I'm speechless. Oh except for this... this rendition is perfection.
Forever beautiful & brilliant. Thanks Bill. ❤
I just love this song's atmosphere.

Absolutely fantastic sound quality music. Thank you. King Crimson is King.

graciaS king crimson por tanto !"!!!!!
Really great melody! Thanks for share.
Certainly one of my favorite KC songs... and such a contrast to my other faves like Fractured, Car Food, and Discipline.
A tad faster rendition but wonderful nonetheless. Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with us Mr. Bruford!
Great video.
Robert and Adrian were such a great fit. 'twould be nice to hear some new recordings by then.
Excellent. Last time I heard this was in the 70s.
That's quite a feat, given that they wrote it in 1981!
Adrian Belew and it's Masters seagulls
PQP...😍
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
👍👏👏👏🤩🇳🇴🇨🇱
Just heard this song for the first time.. wow now I know where Radiohead came from
Who's Heydiodread?
For me this song evokes images of Manzanar et al. I don't think that was the intent, but the melody is so mournful it seems apropos.
Min 2:46 ❤❤❤❤❤❤

im so so sorry but it sounds like someone left a dr beat on
See a doctor.
This song & performance wants for nothing.
That was absolutely horrible
The one piece of music you have posted on your chan is an old redneck rock song from the 70s lolol!
I personally think it was quite beautiful
lol why do all your playlists have 1 video in them? You could've just made 1 playlist for all of them. Also you misspelled beautiful
